Well, I was born into it, so I didn't have a chance to begin with a normal self- esteem.
I didn't really know that I was different then everyone else until kindergarden. The first day of school everyone had to say the pledge of allegiance, I just stood there and a kid raised his hand to tell on me because I wasn't doing it, I felt ashamed and like I was a freak and different from other people. I had to go to school even on the days that they were having a holiday party. I ,of course, couldn't participate. I sat in the back of the room and colored while everyone else exchanged christmas gifts under a silver tinsle tree. I was told by my mom that Satan makes the world look good by using bright lights and exciting decorations. But she said that I should hate what Jehovah hates because if I didn't then god would hate me. I felt guilty looking at the other kids having fun and wishing I could too. Guilt, shame, no socializing; those are not words that a kindergardener should experience. Oh there is much, much, more to say but that would take too long to type.

"Never was concerned about his destination, only about the trip."
by Schizm innow here's a unique way of expressing a person's idea of going to heaven:
obituary says: "mr. matlock was never concerned about his destination, only about the trip.
jim's concerns were put to rest as he passed very peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

His concern about life was put to rest, he didn't have to worry about living anymore. Like the saying, "It's a journey, not a destination". Plus, why would anyone write in someone's obituary that they were afraid of dieing?
Are you still a jw? Because your method of "reasoning" is like a jw.
And why are you so upset over a man's obituary?
I think it might be wise to get yourself some help, you just seem really worked up over something that is silly. I'm not passing judgement on you, I just think that you seem on the edge and I wouldn't want anything to happen to you. I know the jw's frown on psychiatrist, but they can really help you and possibly make you a better jw. Love

Look at it again, it says he was never concerned.
The word destination means: The place to which one is going or directed.
The word trip means: A going from one place to another; a journey.
Then it says: Jim's concerns were put to rest- A nice way of saying the man died.
So from that we can understand that Mr. Matlock was never concerned about the place to which he was going, only the journey.
Or you could say Mr. Matlock wasn't worried about death and heaven, but only his life and where that was going.

20 years ago..a talk concerning field service..sisters crying..eyes opened
by confusedjw inwell i can't recall now which public talks it was - one of my first - and it dealt with field service / preaching.
so i thought i would interview several people in the congregation about service and their thoughts and feelings on the subject, expecting something very different than what i got.
to my shock (i was an over zealous young buck who thought the sun rose and set on the wt) three sisters burst into tears as they told about their feelings of inadequacy and guilt over field service.

No. For me it was like my only chance to talk to normal people.
A few times I would have my partner looking at me because of some of the things I would say at the door. Like.. One day this lady said that she goes to her own church and I said, well at least you're showing that you have a love for god and isn't that all that really matters. My partner looked shocked. Then this Hindu guy was very nice to me and I asked if it would be ok if I came back next week so he could tell me more about his religion. After we left the door, my partner asked why I said that, I just said that it was a way in the door. Truth was, I was curious as he**! I wanted to know if what the jw's said about that religion was really true. When we came back the following week, he had incense burning and he was just finishing up yoga. I asked him why he did that and he put a ring of smoke around me, it was so cool. I may not be hindu, but to this day I put a ring of incense around my kids, they think it's cool too.

The primal religion, if you wanna call it a religion, is shamanism.
Apparently, the first "god" was actually a woman figure.
It makes sense, because in nature and in humans women are the life givers. All life comes through a woman...well except in seahorses and a few other species, but for the most part.... women.
To a primitive and down right logical mind, it would seem that is true. However, to this day, middle eastern countries treat women with disrespect and it makes sense that the male god was made.
Shamanism to me, is closer to being spiritual than religion will ever come close to. But everyone needs something different to feel "spiritual".
sch- If "Mr. Matlock" felt so comfortable in his spirituality, that he didn't worry about death but rather looked at how he lived his life, then we should all look at that as a gift that he found peace. I hope we can all live our life without the stress of fearing what will happen to us in the "afterlife", because what if there isn't an afterlife, what if this life is all you get, and the afterlife thought is primitive wishful thinking on your part. I found encouragement in his words and hopefully you will to.

You know, I wonder sometimes about the thousands of people that were on the earth before the bible was written.
I wonder what they thought god was like. I wonder what they thought about when they saw life and death.
You need to keep in mind that the bible has been plagiarized from several storytellers. There are cities of people that were living on this earth before the whole Adam and Eve story even existed. If "the bible" is your only resource of information, then it doesn't really hold water. I too can go in a cave and write on homemade paper and say that god talked to me, but then again everone would think I lost my mind. Why do people believe it when middle eastern men say it?
sch- Maybe in the future when you have a question, you could rephrase what you want to say. With anger spewing out of your posts, it's hard to answer your "comments" in a productive way. Take the high road by using better communication skills.
