The most condescending thing said to you by the (sm)elders.
by diamondblue1974 ini wasnt the most academic of children although i had some capability but i could read quite well by the time i was 4 years old at least for my age; i have always read as a child and still read now as an adult both professionally (research) and for pleasure.
i have always been able to write too...and pretty much advanced as well as my peers did in school...perhaps i am lucky, i certainly feel like i am when illiteracy amongst adults and children is rife at present...however.. i remember when i was 16 the wts in the uk were pushing through a scheme teaching those who were not as able to read and write...and an elder in the hall made a point of coming to me and suggesting that i should actually attend the training!!
!....i explained that i could read and write well enough and didnt need to be taught basic literacy... he said that i might learn something new and should respect jehovahs order of things and show appreciation...i did decline his kind offer rather abruptly....but wtf??

confused
by sugarbritches inquestion-- if a jw is disfellowshipped for having too much association with a non-witness- is this jw likely to be refused a reinstatement as long as he is associating with her-- and if so- will he be allowed to talk to her again to some degree after he is reinstated?

If he is still doing the act that got him disfellowshipped in the first place (talking to her) then no he would not be allowed back in. If he wanted to continue to see her he would have to do it in private without other jw's knowing about it.

WHY DO YOU INSIST on clinging to the Bible as anything other than fiction?
by Terry inhave you made the same effort investigating the history of how scripture was written down, compiled, redacted and selected as you did reinforcing your jw doctrines week after week at the kingdom hall?.
if you have; then you know it cannot be factual.. there have always been agendas.
the people with the agendas needed to wield power and using an invisible backup agent was a great device for controlling others.. somebody is always insisting they have an invisible and mysterious source of divine information and selling it like hotcakes and syrup.

Everything comes and goes in waves. Now you're single, lonely, depressed. Next month you're taken, social, and happy. It's forever changing.

Bookstudy Group Disbanded......haha
by Mary ini just got word that the bookstudy attendance in one of the groups at my hall has dwindled off to numbers so pitiful that they're dissolving this particular bookstudy group and splitting up the remainder and shipping them out to other bookstudy groups.

a few ?'s
by carla inmay i ask a few questions?
i'm sure some have already been asked, and some are not meant to be hurtful, i just don't understand.
backround- i am not jw, in fact quite anti jw, husband has been studying for about two years, not baptized, not field service, i know doctine quite well, flipflops, un, new 1914, etc......... do any of you feel 'guilty' for getting someone 'in'?

If you didn't have any friends or family 'in', what would keep you? fear of the big A?
A strong belief that the org. is right in their doctrine and that the people seem to be so moral that it has to be god's org.
The truth is, this is just the courtship period. They will be on their best behavior in front of your husband. Sometimes it's hard to see the disfunction if you want to believe that they have the truth.
I would say that it seems like your husband is going through a spiritual crisis and thinks that this is for him. Unfortunetly, many fall prey to their tactics and lose their real family and friends in the process.
If it is the truth, why such fear at looking at anything not sactioned by the wt?
Because it is a cult. The kingdom hall (kh) may look like a business meeting is going on and the people are always so friendly with each other.
Don't be fooled. I remember going to the kh and in the parking lot my dad would be smacking my mom's face, but we all dried our tears and we acted like a happy family. Smiling and joking with people. I try to look at the positives now. At least it taught me how to be a good actress. My best friend just recently told me that she would be punched by her dad. He was an elder (also part of the 144,000) and he would tell her, at 15 years old, to go lay down on the bed with your clothes off so I can spank you. He just was getting his kicks. The point is, I've known her since I was 3 years old and I never knew this. I thought she had the most perfect life, her parents were always buying expensive things and they seemed so classy. In front of me, her mom would talk so sweet to her, but in private she would rave like a madwoman. She was bi-polar and no one knew about it. No one would have guessed. I saw them recently at the park, wearing their Ralph Lauren and Marshall Fields clothes. I just wanted to yell at them- you child abusers! Anyways, they can hide it well because they are taught how superior of a human being they are from the rest of humankind.
If your husband is this adament about going to the hall, maybe you should try reverse psychology and act like he is making some good points, play into his ego like they are. Then when he trust your judgement again, start saying little things like, why do you think they do that? I don't understand what's so wrong with that. Also, tell him to see how the lowest person on the "totom pole" is treated, it sometimes is a good indicator of things. Try and keep all religions open as an option. Since he has been in it for 2 years the brain washing has already started. I would suggest that the family seek a professional to deal with this. IMHO

No, but they had to sell my local kh. Now they are building a new one that is a double-wide. It will hold two different kh's in one. More economical I guess.

What went against your nature
by Satanus inin the dub life, some things that were against my nature that i did were giving talks, door to door selling, classroom debates, exclude myself from school activities, shunning dfd ones, not doing the pagan/christian celebrations, and um,, abstaining from sex.
on the other hand, some stuff i liked was studying some of the ideas in the books, although my enjoyment of this tapered off.
i sometimes enjoyed arguing doctrine and attacking evolution.

Going to football games to watch "the boys" pretending to be into it, I felt like a ninny. It was like unless you acted like an airhead, they would counsel you for being too independant.
