Now this is a sad statement! Here is one who is truly ensnared to the point that they feel it is disgraceful for one to make a decision on their own. He must be a WT golden boy for that point of view! Completely controllable and probably calls an elder for clearance of what movie is ok for Friday night relaxation. So sad.
in my witness past, i had many hopes.
they do not pass by with the thought that there will soon be hope of something better.
no, they pass into me with the hope of knowing how precious the things are that i have.
Kenpo - excellent thoughts. So true. Life is so much brighter without the fog of doom that presides over the life of a witness. Belated congratulations to you and your wife on the birth of your beautiful son!

Oh puhleeze! Well hooray for them but it won't save them. Do they actually believe that paying to run a public service announcement should negate their responsibility on the issue? Nauseating. Actions speak louder than words and they have yet to show any action in even the simplest form, like say compassion for the victims of their policies. TV commercials do not make it all better. What a slap in the face this award and those commercials are for all those who have suffered abuse and been punished for the sins of their molesters while the molesters go free.

My parents are still in as well, and still talk to all of us. I did the fade, as did my siblings. I can relate to what you are saying about the kids being vocal to the grandparents about holidays- my 6 year old delights in telling everyone about his halloween costume or birthday presents.( I actually secretly enjoy watching my mother squirm over my son's enthusiasm for the holidays) I decided that I was not going to put the burden on my child of having to remember not to mention holidays to Grandma. He knows that my parents do not celebrate holidays and that they are witnesses and we are not, but other than that I decided that it was up to my parents to deal with whatever they felt about it, not up to a child to have to learn to hide his life from them. We have established a don't ask don't tell type of relationship with my parents regarding the religion issue. They don't bring it up, and neither do we. I have told them that I have very sound reasons for my decision to quit and not raise my children as witnesses and made it known that should they ever wish to actually hear my reasons, I would be happy to have that discussion at some future date, but other than that we do not discuss it. They are fully aware that we do celebrate holidays, but they overlook it for the sake of maintaining a relationship with their children and grandchildren.
every now and then you hear on the news that a woman has given birth to a baby and never realized that she was pregnant.
oh, come on now, there are enough changes in a woman's body for her to know that something is up....it just astounds me that nine months can go by without the woman suspecting a thing.....unless you are numb from the neck down, or two cards short of a deck.surprise!

Now I can see not knowing for a few months if you are irregular or something, but I can't imagine going the whole 9 months and going into labor without ever knowing you're pregnant!!
i have a friend, xjw, who is having medical problems and no matter what i seem to say to her, i can tell she has not gotten over the issue of <gasp> no blood.
since the no blood stand was so ingrained in us as jws (almost like the unforgivable sin) my friend just cant seem to let go of that thinking.
i know i get too clinical at times, so i need some help with reasons why taking blood is or is not an issue for you anymore.
I would take one without hesitation- and as someone else said in their post, any remaining qualms I might have had vanished when I became a mother, and to save my life, I probably would have taken it before that. When my son was born, I was still a fringe JW. I remember a conversation with my now ex in which we discussed taking blood and we both told the other that there was no question that we would want anything and everything medical science had to offer in order to save either of our lives or that of our child. No child deserves to live without a mother or a father if there are the means by which to save their lives, any more than a parent should have to live with the death of a child if that child's life could be saved. As witnesses, the way it is presented, we are led to believe that stringing up a blood transfusion is as routine as hooking up a saline IV if you even set foot in a hospital. All part of instilling fear and control.
anyone else remember those talks about being materialistic?
i can remember when the brother would go on about owning the latest gadgets, new cars, boats and bigger houses.
it seems they always precluded their remarks with, "these things aren't wrong in themselves...." and then would go on to make a big deal about how unspiritual it would be to own these things.
And interestingly enough, it is up to someone else who is spiritually superior to decide how YOU feel about your posessions. It is so utterly ridiculous, but yet another way that they insinuate themselves into your personal life where they do not belong. So it's not really wrong to have things, but someone might decide on your behalf that you are materialistic because you have the nice things and they don't, it is wrong on that basis (in actuality, based on their argument, jealousy becomes the real factor, not the actual posession). So ultimately, it is wrong despite what they say, unless you are contributing a large amount to the coffers every month and then it will be overlooked and taken advantage of to the fullest extent possible.
i was always honest with my field service reports, until the time when an elder came over to give me hell because i had only 1 hour that month in the field service.
i told him that i was working 50 hours a week, had a 4 day district convention that month and couldn't do miracles that month.
he never accepted my explanation.. .

can jehovah's witnesses now celebrate birthdays without being disfellowshipped or disassociated?
will jehovah's witnesses who celebrate birthdays now only be considered as not being "mature" christians?
the watchtower, october 15, 1998 issue, pages 30-31:
"there are good reasons why mature Christians abstain from celebrating birthdays."
This is the key phrase that always stood out to me in all of the questions such as this. It all boils down to this: They have no real reason WHY it is supposedly wrong to celebrate birthdays, and they resort to the guilt inducing phrase that a "mature" christian would not celebrate birthdays, knowing full well how well this control tactic works. If you are not doing what the "mature" ones are doing, you are dung. Therefore anyone who doesn't want the label of "weak" will not celebrate no matter what their personal conscience tells them. The collective conscience rules the roost.
