I remember seeing my mother's copy. Personally, I was lucky enough to end my association never having ventured into the pioneer ranks.

JW delivery man just here
by Mulan ini had to buy my parents a new refrigerator and dishwasher this week, and it was delivered a few minutes ago.
one of the delivery men noticed mom's daily text book, and asked her if she read it every day, to stay close to jehovah.
she immediately asked him "what congregation are you in?

At dinner this past weekend, my sister was subjected to all the "engaging" conversation between my parents and some family friends(parents and friends active, sister did the fade). She relayed that one of the topics was about Mormons being a cult, yet, they cannot see that the they are no different. Incapable of removing the rafter from their own eyes. No wonder your Mom was not thrilled with the comparison!

Small system error seems to have done away with my reply -
I was lucky. By the time I was your age, I had not sat with my parents in more than a year, and had my own motel room for about the same amount of time. ( Had a part time job to be able to do that.) I perfected the art of daydreaming whil looking like the speaker had my full attention. Took token notes, just in case my parents asked for a "what was your favorite point" quote, which rarely happened. I also used to just keep reading in my bible even if they were done with a scripture because as boring as I found it, it was way better than whatever was being said.
Suggestions about developing fear/claustrophobia of crowds MIGHT work, but they make medication that works wonders on that so that might be only a short term solution.
For service, if I had to go out, I tried my best to get into the groups that liked to drive accross town to go to the most out of the way coffee break place, and barring that, I did the " I just want to listen to others presentation today and get some ideas" in order to escape at least having to spread the drivel myself. There were a few times that I just flat refused to get out of bed, but the storm from that blew over quickly in my house and does not sound like it would in yours, considering you get your notebooks confiscated still.
Getting yourself in trouble and getting your privileges taken away might work, but it sounds like you live in a pretty strict house, and it might backfire on you and simply make your home life even more difficult than it already is. When I was privately reproved, they did not want me to answer at the meetings, but they still wanted me out in service. I was also 18 when that happened.

Accounts receivable administrator, including collections and claims processing. My first choice would be to stay home with my son, but since I have no other option at the moment, it helps to work for a great family oriented company that is not offended that family comes first.

What's Your Sign?
by minimus inas witnesses, we were admonished to never look at horoscopes because they are demonic.
many jw's that i knew of would not even look at a fortune cookie because they could be "demonized".

Aquarius, Feb 4. I don't pay a lot of attention to the daily horoscope, but the personality traits of my sign are a perfect match!

Did your teacher ever....
by Nosferatu injust read this from a 1973 wt:.
"boys and girls may start to play with their private parts during puberty and, not receiving any counsel against this, the first thing they know they are "hooked" on the habit.
and if some know nothing about such self-abuse before entering high school, the chances are they will learn of it from either fellow students or the teachers themselves.".

Our Kids Feel Like Freaks
by Shakita ini was reading the february 15, 2003 wt which had an article on page 23 entitled "do not leave your child's heart to chance.
" on page 26 under the subheading "even from within the congregation.
" the wt overlords say: "although your teenage child appears to be in good spiritual health, inside he may be struggling with a divided heart.

School was the worst experience of my life. Being a kid is hard enough without having to deal with all the crap that went along with being a witness. I had NO self esteem or confidence. No sense of self, and felt like an outcast everywhere I went, at times so severe that I did not feel comfortable even at home. The knowledge that my children will NEVER have to experience those stresses in addition to normal growing pains brings me great comfort. I watch how happy my son is when he talks about holidays or his birthday and it helps me to get over my bad memories of feeling left out and uncomfortable. I see his little vulnerabilities and am so grateful that he will never ever have the added burden of being forced to be different because I tell him he has to.

Corporal punishment and JWs
by YellowLab inhow many of you were spanked, beaten or in some other way physically corrected as a jw?.
my mother used to beat me with her hands, shoes, belts and various other items within reach when i misbehaved.
many times it was borderline abuse.. do jws teach to beat their kids into submission using physical means?

I guess we were fortunate in that respect. I can rememeber maybe 3 incidents where I was spanked, and never in public, never in front of anyone. And to be honest, I think that the few times I was spanked, I probably deserved it. I certainly would not classify the spankings I received as abuse. We were never hit with belts or anything like that, though I remember very well watching other kids in the hall be "disciplined" and knowing that I was pretty lucky in that regard in the parent department. I remember that the PO's wife used to tell my mother that in service, she ouught to do what sister so-and-so did when her kids misbehaved - pull the car to the side of the road, take the kids behind the car, pull down their pants and beat them into submission. My mother never did, and I beleive that she told this woman to mind her own business. All this sage advice coming from someone who never had children, but was just a fountain of information on how children ought to be raised. My parents never punished us for falling asleep at the meetings, especially since if we did, it meant that we were up past our bed time and couoldn't help but fall asleep. Well, that and the fact that as long as I can remember, my dad took little naps during the meetings too. I remember being totally disgusted with this family that made a big public show of "discipline" I was probably only 10 or 12, but this family carried a big paddle with them to meetings - looked like a cutting board with a handle, and if their child so much as squirmed, they would drag them out, brandishing the paddle and you could hear the smacks through the whole hall. And they always sat right in the front of the hall, too. Never impressed me at all.

I am so glad to hear that Jes! That's great. Hopefully the Judge will throw it out, and you won't have to worry about it anymore. I am glad you found an attorney to talk to you and offer advice without demanding a big retainer.
