It certainly didn't sit well with me, but I tried for a long time to force myself into the submissive role. Didn't work and I became very depressed. I know that my brother had a big problem with women not being allowed to hold positions in the congregation as well.

Women raised as JWs: Did the WTS views on women negatively impact you?
by berylblue ini'd really like to know.. my experience was that women who were raised in the "truth" and married to a good jw brother did not know how to make decisions.
from reading this board, this would, however, appear to be the least of their problems.. what specifically, if any, were the problems associated with always being told you were a second class person and not capable of making decisions?.

I thought I'd give this a go, lighten up the forum a little. Just curious, about a few things regarding all of us who participate on here. I have some questions, of which I will answer also. 1. How long were you a Jehovah's Witness? 24 years 2. Were you raised in it or become a JW later on in life? Raised a witness 3. Were you contacted via the door-to-door ministry? My parents were. 4. Initially, what intrigued or drew you to the Jehovah's Witnesses then? My parents had rough and emotionally painful childhoods and were vulnerable to the rosy picture painted by the person who contacted them. 5. When were you baptized? Or if you weren't, mention that if you wish. 1987 6. When did you start having doubts? before that, but felt that I couldn't do anything about it at my age. 7. What else perhaps contributed to your leaving? When I became pregnant 10 years later I knew I had to find the strength to break away for my child's sake. 8. When were you disfellowshipped/disassociated? NA 9. Have you ever been reinstated? NA 10. Did you attempt to contact or have spoken with other active-JWs when you were DF/DA'd? NA 11. Have you ever protested/picketted a JW assembly/convention? No. Waste of time, IMO. 12. Do you miss being a Jehovah's Witness? NO! 13. Do you still have family that are active JWs? Yes 14. Do you believe in god/God etc.? Yes 15. Are you politically active or have voted? Registered, but have not voted yet 16. Would you say you have become more tolerant or open-minded generally speaking since you left? Most definitely. 17. Do you think that the WTBTS will crumble? One can hope! They have done so much damage. 18. If you could say anything to the WTBTS and be listened to, what would you like to say? 19. What has helped you to cope, post-JW? The knowledge that all my siblings have walked away as well and that we have each other, forums like this, lots of reading, therapy, meeting my husband, knowing that my children will never ever face the difficulty of being forced to be different because of a bunch of men in Brooklyn. 20. Anything else you'd like to say/add? -

Ah, the screaming Canadian toothpick, as a local radio personality here calls her. No, I have no desire to see her. The big Vegas shows are spectacular, and I imagine the special effects in hers are no different, but I do not think I could sit through a show of hers even if it was free. And that short haircut does her no favors at all - she looks very harsh. That picture makes her look like one of the statues at Madame Tussaud's wax museum.

Dirt?? Please do tell, if you are comfortable! My email is available. But I would be interested in hearing simply because the girl stopped talking to me when we were teenagers because of something I had allegedly done. ( still to this day no clue what nor do I remember anymore if it was a personal sin or something organizational!) I just like to know backgrounds and history on people I used to know, especially when I've been judged by them!

I think that the last assembly that I attended in Springfield was 93, and I only went for part of it. I have attended no meetings at all since 1996. It is hard to remember too many names from so long ago - I'd know if I heard the names but can't come up with much off the cuff! I knew the kids from a family named Muir from the Springfield area when I was a teenager. They seemed to have a wide social circle. (2 kids who are probably 29-35 now. I remember it was a single family home because the father had passed away or something like that.) Brattleboro was not part of our circuit - I was from a circuit north of there. The only time I was in Brattleboro was working on the quickbuild there. The name Paul Arnell sounds vaguely familiar.

I grew up in VT and attended assemblies at the Civic Center for 20+ years. (My fondest memories are of the Brueger's Bagel's shop accross the street, and shopping excursions to the Holyoke Mall) I knew a few people in your vicinity. Congratulations on building a happy life for yourself despite the obstacles.

Does Everybody turn our okay after leaving?
by Scooby ini am curious... do you know some that have left the truth that become "worse" people?
for years i would hear about some who left the truth and rumours how they are on drugs, in jail, etc.
and many bros and sis would say, "you might as well go out in the world and do all the bad stuff..cuz you're dead at armaggedon!".

I think that everyone reacts differently. Some need to sew a few wild oats that have built up from being so stifled all those years. For the most part though, I think they leave because they recognize the lie- not to live a life of sin. They leave because they see things happening that they know in their hearts to be wrong. Or maybe because they realize that they have no belief in God. Whatever the reason for leaving, I think that most people turn out ok once they deal with the issues that caused them to leave and gain the confidence that they CAN make decisions regarding their own lives without fear or guilt being heaped upon them at every turn and that using your own mind is preferable to letting someone else think for you.
In agreement with jschwemm, it doesn't matter what the reason for leaving, the witness way of thought will search for anything that they can condemn. The REAL reason why people leave, or the fact that those who leave can and do lead happy fulfilled lives without the whole setup, is of no interest to any who do not have the strength or courage, or for some, even the desire to leave. They will always try to find something bad, even in the positive, to make themselves feel justified for continuing to allow their lives to be controlled at every turn. To each their own, but I beleive that happiness is more than possible for those who choose to leave it all behind and write their own story for their lives.
