If she answers me that she doesn't want me to continue calling her, it will devestate me, but at least I will know where I stand and it will be over and done with. I just feel like I can't maintain this relationship (you can't really call it a relationship at this point) the way it is.
Everyone needs to know where they stand with regard to loved ones, for good or bad. Living in the nether world in between is so draining and confusing; at least for me. You have the right to create peace and feel good about yourself with those in your life. I've found it best to confront the issue/person and lay the cards on the table, have the heart to heart, take the chance so as to end the fear and speculation of what might be and start dealing with what is. It can be the hardest thing to do but no matter what happens, you can look back and say you tried and said your piece.
I agree with the talking about secular things only of course because as you know, some are so entrenched in the dub world that nothing external will extricate them. Their choice. It does sound like there's a lot of fear and detachment you sense from her, which we both know the reasons for. I am sorry you have to deal with this. But don't let it make you nuts; it will if you let it ;-)
In reference to what Garybuss said, I've come to terms with the fact that my parents will likely die as dubs as well and at this point, I tend to think that it's better to let a sleeping dog lie. Though my situation is not as "harsh" as some, there still is the deeply rooted aftereffects of the life previous and the ongoing stuggle to maintain some semblance of the nuclear family. I am ok with the fact I cannot change them and so much of my struggle with this is that it wasn't them, but myself that had to change and reconcile issues. Not that I love them as parents any less. It's never easy is it?
Take care

Aussies/Canadians of JWD most laid back~
by FlyingHighNow ini was thinking today, i've been here at jwd for nearly three years now.
i've observed that our aussie members are the most laid back members on the board here.they don't take their country, their politics or anything too seriously really.
people who are from europe tend to be more laid back than the brits and americans.

Was Lot A Righteous Man?
by jayhawk1 ini just have to ask this question.
was lot a righteous man?.
2 peter 2:7,8 says "and he delivered righteous lot, who was greatly distressed by the indulgence of the law-defying people in loose conduct- 8 for that righteous man by what he saw and heard while dwelling among them from day to day was tormenting his righeteous sould by reason of their lawless deeds.".

Re: Was Lot A Righteous Man?
Naw, don't think so.
Offer up his daughters to some mob? wtf. They'd have to step over my dead corpse to hurt my family and not before I take a few of 'em with me,...
What, angels can't take care of a few drunks? "What kind of pussy angels are you guys anyways? Beat it. Get that bada$$ Gabriel to kick butt here and tell God to stop sending wimpy, voyeuristic angels to my house!"
And sorry but that whole incest thing is f***ed up. I don't care how drunk you are, normal people don't do that s***. And what were the daughters thinking?
Fable or not, that whole thing is just wrong.

Dr Phil - Mennonites/Hutterites - brainwashing
by Scully indid anyone see the last 2 episodes of dr phil concerning the abduction of two girls by their father into the remote mennonite communities in belize?.
it was interesting to hear dr phil describe the girls' affect as being "flat" and that something just wasn't right.
the mother believes the girls have been brainwashed into the "plain" lifestyle.

Didn't see the show but had to comment on the brethren thing.
My father was born and raised Hutterite but left the colony when he was about 20. He maintained family ties and is not shunned. I spent a fair bit of time there as a kid and looking back, the similarities between them and the dub mindset and social engineering are apparent. Both are isolationist religion based communities that limit outside association and exposure to information. A very patriarchical community with clearly defined roles and responsibilities and a strong basis in their interpretation of the bible. Traditionally humble in attire and attitude, they pretty much keep to themselves and don't integrate. This and the fact of their communist approach to possessions and lifestyle is closer to Amish than Mennonite I would presume. Mennonites seem to have integrated more readily. The movie "The Village" reminded me of the dub connection obviously but also the Hutterite approach to it, a sort of mix of both those worlds.
I have know a few other Hutterite "runaways" who've left and made a life "outside". I have no doubts that they go through much the same as xdubs albeit as escapees of a somewhat less judgemental but no less unsupportive subsection of society. They are known to have their "apostafests" from time to time,...

Lack of Trust
by XJW4EVR inhaving been raised in this cult i still struggle with trust issues.
i just can't bring myself to speak about certain things to people that i have formed a relationship with.
i have such a phobia of having that bond of trust broken, that i won't allow myself to be open to people that i have known, and are good friends.

Yea, the whole belief structure disintegration and social identification thing does quite a number on ya,....
Someone once told me that trusting people is like lighting candles. Everyone gets a candle to start. Everytime trust is reaffirmed, you light another candle. It doesn't take a lot of effort to blow out one or two and there are always other candles to light but good friends take time to find.
I do think you have to trust, to believe in something solid, to make it so by investing in it and making it real no matter what it is and it really doesn't matter what it is as long as it is. But first of all, trust in yourself. You're here. And before you know it, you'll be where you want to be. But only if you believe it.

I liked "Empire Strikes Back" better than ANY of the newer Star Wars movies. This seemed to strike a high point of good writing, acting and special effects which none of the later movies equalled. IMHO, Jurassic Park should have been a single movie, no sequels at all.
"Empire" was the best of them all. Most followed the formula and had bad dialogue but ILM always turned out good eye candy and there was something about that one that wasn't so cheesy and had a bit of real drama to it. Plus that asteroid sequence kicked proverbial a$$,.....lol The original Jurassic Park was a classic. Malcolm's character was the best.
