  I know of many incidences were brother had "privileges" removed for not doing at least the national average which is about 19 hours . eg not allowed to do the mikes, not allowed to read .........it goes on

  Oh So True, it happened to me. I worked 6 days a week 12 hr days, no joke, so on my ONE day off I had a choice, FS and the meeting or take care of maintenance on my home/property, it was a balancing act. Anyway, We show up for book study (We had it at our home for over 10 yrs until we decided to let someone else enjoy that blessing...puke...) and the one who was going to conduct takes me aside and this is what he tells me " I know your on restriction, but can you open the meeting with the prayer and read?" I was floored, on restriction? when did that take place? was anyone going to inform me? I honestly thought for a moment this is bullsh_t! What, everybody knows but me? It was crap like that, that finally openned my eyes. Their a bunch of Vampires. My son had priveleges taken away from him also because of a false rumor, I had to talk with two elders about it they agreed no wrong doing had occured, but because the rumor was out there he couldn't be used. Needless to say we are all out now, don't have to put up with the mind games. Acadian

  i have been a lurker here for a few months and feel like i know you all already.

  my story is (of course) similar to everyone else's.

  basically my mom became a jw when i was 10. my sister and i had to be in it with her, and i wanted to go along because i wanted to please jah...and have lots of furry animals in the new system.

  for Christians: How did you decide on the Bible?

  for those of you who are christian and accept the bible as nothing less then the word of god, how did you come to that conclusion?

  how much research did you do into the bible to get to the point where you sat back and said, this is it?

  or was it zero research and more a leap of faith?.

  How did you decide on the Bible?

  For what? A book of absolute truth? I didn't You'll find truth in it, but, you'll find corruption also, much has been changed, left out and added to suit those in control of the people of that time. (Roman Catholic church) I don't believe the bible containes all the truth there is, but I believe it has truth in it. To believe the bible is the only book that containes truth, is too denign the truth. Truth can be found in many places, most places are not books, but life its self. Or how would those who never saw or read a bible be saved? Acadian A follower of Christ, but not a Christian.

  The only churches effected by IRS demands were 501-C-3 churches. they are non-profit corporations created by the State. They are under the authority of the State they were created in. They have made the State the head of their church, not Christ. Thats why they must obey the IRS. If the church you attend is not incorporated into the State (not a 501-C-3 corp.) Then the State has no say in that church's sermons, whether political or not. You want benefits from the State, then you pay the price! Acadian

  associations, corporations, legal representatives, mutual companies,
  joint­stock companies, trusts, unincorporated organizations,
  trustees, trustees in cases under title 11 [bankruptcy], or
  receivers.
  
  (b) The term ``employer'' means a person engaged in an industry affecting
  commerce who has fifteen or more employees for each working day in each of
  twenty or more calendar weeks in the current or preceding calendar year,
  and any agent of such a person, but such term does not include (1) the United States, a corporation wholly owned by the Government of the United
  States, an Indian tribe, or any department or agency of the District of
  Columbia subject by statute to procedures of the competitive service (as
  defined in section 2102 of title 5 [of the United States Code]), or (2) a bona fide private membership club (other than a labor organization)
  which is exempt from taxation under section 501(c) of title 26 [the
  Internal Revenue Code of 1954], except that during the first year
  after March 24, 1972 [the date of enactment of the Equal Employment
  Opportunity Act of 1972], persons having fewer than twenty­five
  employees (and their agents) shall not be considered employers.
  
  (c) The term ``employment agency'' means any person regularly undertaking
  with or without compensation to procure employees for an employer or to
  procure for employees opportunities to work for an employer and includes
  an agent of such a person.

  The term "does not include" is the key here, this "Act" does not include "501 (c)" corporations. They are exempt from this "Act" Thats how I read it.... Acadian

  Did anyone really buy into the "Universal Sovereignty" issue?

  i am new to the forum, but not new to jw indoctrination.

  even as a child, i would ask myself, "why would the almighty creator need to prove anything to anyone, including him/her/itself?

  really, one of the few scriptures that i do actually agree with is that 'god is love.

  Hi Funkyderek, First let me say I don't believe the bible or any so called scriptures are works of God, but works of man. {not that there isn't some truth,but not all of it) From my own study I've come to the conclusion that all those laws you mention in the Pentateuch were just additions of men. over and beyond the 10. and then condensed by Jesus into just two, both based on love. I believe the whole issue is that man doesn't need government to rule over him, if they follow the spirit of the law as Jesus brought out, and I mentioned above. The story of Abraham is the start of the teaching, "be no part of the world" when he was asked to seperate himself and family from the nations. But like everyone else. I only have someone else's word to go by because I wasn't there, so how do we really know? So for me it boils down to "Harm no one, be giving, show mercy and be forgiving to all, because in truth isn't that the best way live and get along with other's? On another note, I don't believe truth and understanding come from a book, but comes from inside all of us, the Kingdom within. Peace Acadian

  What do you do with your time now that you are no longer a Witness?

  was never enough time to do all the things that needed to be done in life.. now, that my life is not so structured and revolved around preparing for.

  meetings, study and service my focus is on finishing my college degree.. what about you and your time?

  i'm not criticizing anyone's decision to da themselves...just wondering what the advantages are.. if the whole da thing is something made up by the gb why make them happy by playing by their rules?

  how are they hurt by your decision?

  I DAed myself, by walking away from the org and not looking back. You do not have to send any letters of dis-association, just stop going and don't associate with them, I think that's called dis-association. Oh they will want to know why they havn't seen you at the meetings, so I told them it was because the WTS commited apostacy. And I can't be ANY part of an apostate organization... they havn't been by since, that was about 3 yrs ago. Peace Acadian

  Would this offend you, if the government made this policy

  if the government had this policy .... given that 100% of the terrorist who did 9/11 were arab, and most terrorist are arab.

  we as a government will racially profile the arab population and visitors to our country.

  spending more time inspecting them, checking them out, and making sure that they are singled out and watched more then any other race.. would this offend you?.
