>> Call up a few escorts, tell them the truth about your situation (miserable virgin, socially awkward, dub >> life), and make an appointment with the first one who seems like a nice person.
that is a STUPID thing to suggest.
1) It's illegal -- unless you live in Nevada. If caught, your name could end up published in the local newspaper, and you could end up paying a heafty fine.
2) It's dangerous -- you could end up catching an incurable disease, like HIV or herpes.

>> Check out postings at the Library for events; volunteer in something that sparks your interest...
Consider adult "mini-courses," usually offered by local community colleges or sometimes universities. They usually meet a few evenings a week for several weeks, and are about a general topic. You get to meet people and learn something new at the same time. These are NOT the same as taking regular classes, they less structured and more geared towards learning something practical.

Michael Jackson stuff
by Mulan inwhile cleaning cupboards today, i had court tv on in the other room, listening to the commentary about the mj trial.. i was pretty surprised when they started talking about his going back to jehovah's witnesses and that he had taken his children to a kingdom hall in solvang (near where he lives) around easter time.
so it was for the memorial.
they said that since then, he has been attending pretty regularly with his kids, but that because he is disfellowshipped (and they had this information correct, saying he wrote a letter disassociating himself many years ago, but that he is technically disfellowshipped) no one will talk to him.. so, is he trying to make a comeback?

Do those that shun us not love us?
by logansrun init is a mistake for former jehovah's witnesses to think that just because they are shunned by friends and family, they are no longer loved.
isn't shunning a horrible experience, one borne from twisted psychological reasoning?
mandated shunning from a powerful and misguided religious organization is a great sin against both the person shunned and those who are obliged, yes obliged, to shun them.

out,
Actually you have a good point, but I'll take it one step further. JWs are like other "tight communitites" (Amish, Mormons, etc) in that they feel "brothers and sisters" are simply better people and can do no wrong. Protecting the organization might be on the minds of the higher ups (COs, DOs, Bethel legal, etc) but at the "joe publisher" level, there is a "take care of our own" mentality.
For example, Witnesses are notorious for giving business only to other Witness-owned businesses. They have this idea that "brothers are better," even as they are getting fleeced. So, yeah, at the grass roots level, I think its fair to say that molesters ARE protected by the organization. -

Hi Logan,
Correct. Shunning is to bring someone to their senses. Shunning is also done to "keep the congregation clean," as per 1 cor. 15:33. I'm sure Barabara Anderson and Bill Bowen are being shunned out of love right now. -

logansrun,
I knew you were going to being parent disciplining child up. There are non-abusive ways to discipline a child. Shunning is abusive. Abusing someone is always wrong. At least I feel that way. It's okay that you don't. I guess beating a child to the point of hospitalization is love in your world-view as well. Do those that beat you not love you? whatever.
Second, it's not comparing apples and oranges to being. It's called reducto absurdium (spelling) -- reduction to the absurd. It's useful for showing fallacies in a line of reasoning. -

What is the Real Financial Cost of a Circuit Assembly?
by FairMind inmy congregation along with about thirty others attends circuit assemblies at a facility that is owned by the organization (a converted school).
this building also has a section that serves as a kh for three local congregations.
i have noticed that when the financial reports are read at the assemblies that the expense (which is not detailed) is always around $4,000.

Hmmm... maybe your right. I remember they used to read letters stating that expenses were calculated that way.

>> you are telling me that my love for my friend when I shunned him was a false love?
Well, it's the moral eqivalent of telling a molested kid to "walk it off and be quiet, so as not bring reproach on Jehovah's good name"

I strongly disagree. Let's take your argument to the limit. A Jehovah's Witness in Atlanta several years back killed his family to ensure they recieved the reserrection hope. Was killing his family a loving thing to do. Probably not, since it is illegal.
Shunning is a form of emotional abuse, since it is intended to hurt the shunned one. Hurting another person is NEVER loving.
I guess those that protect child molesters in the organization are showing love as well by your definition.
