  How to brainwash only part of your brain.

  i was talking to a mental health professional (don't remember her credentials) about jws.

  part of what i couldn't get my brain around was how jws (myself included, when i was "in") can seem to function so well in other areas, but so easily and completely give up their minds to others when it comes to the org.

  the behavior seems so irrational and deluded, with so many cognitive distortions at work, that healthy functioning in other areas would appear precluded.

  You have asserted that the rates of decay have been constant for all of earth's existence. You bear the burden of proof. How can you say the rates have been constant when no one was around to measure this?

  Just as was predicted, you will not qualify your statements that scientists are incorrect in the assertation that the earth is 4.5 billion yrs old. The evidence for decay rates have been widely published and are easily obtainable. You obviously have a computer, spend 5 minutes and research: it's not difficult.

  You guys keep denying the interpretation of geology is just that: interpretation. It is theory that must fit within the evolutionary, naturalistic assumptions made by those who have a vested interest in those assumptions!

  Interpretation based on physical evidence. What about you? Your interpretation of a book, interpreted to fit the wishful thinking of those who endure a less than fulfilling life? Is this not the pot calling the kettle black?

  How does reproducible evidence equal a circular argument? Is it scholarly to make this claim only because you cannot refute the evidence?

  They are no more than equal to the arguments advanced by the I.D. scientists. Creation science does not dispute measurable and observable data.

  I.D and creationism are not science.

  We are still awaiting your refutation of the scientific evidence. You imply that you have examined this proof and are able to see it's failure....enlighten us to those faults.

  Scientists have provided their evidence, can you refute it or not?

  Don't make claims that you cannot back up.

  God wants you to pray for Satan. What better way to show unconditional, selfless love, than to pray for the Prince Of All Evil? But Satan can't be saved can he? Of course he can! Do you think God isn't powerful and loving enough to forgive Satan? The bible says: "All things are possible through prayer." The last time I checked, "All things" included every single thing, and that means Satan too! Come on Kenneson, this is what you should have been doing since day one! What were you thinking?!? Jesus Christ, it's so basic! So, what do you need to do? Simple, pray that Satan sees the mistakes he's made, asks for forgiveness, and invites Jesus Christ into his heart as his own personal savior. Should we pray for anyone else while we are at it? Stop wasting your time praying for anyone else. If Satan repents, you may never have to say another prayer for anyone ever again! Imagine that, no more evil and sin! Just happiness and love! Satan will then use his powers for good!! Think of it, we'll be telling our grandchildren what sin was! When Satan does repent, what do we do? How does "Live happily ever after...forever" sound? There you have it folks....Pray for Satan! spiritual insight gleaned from normalBobSmith

  Why is it that I am required to provide you with such proof? If you remove the blinders that inhibit your vision, you will find that there are many, many sources available to explain and demonstrate the evidence which establishes the age of the earth. Scientists, which no doubt are more qualified than I, have provided the necessary evidence to substantiate their claims. You are aware of this evidence, so why do ask me to provide it yet again? Rather than just make the blanket accusation that I/we are wrong, show me. Tell me why RC dating is incorrect. If we can confirm RC dating with other methods, show me how it is wrong. If scientists have 160,000 years of ice-cores from a glacier, show me how they are wrong. If we are so far off base in our claims, and you are so adamant that we are wrong, it should be an easy affair to demonstrate our errors. You claim the scientists are wrong...it's up to YOU to prove it. Let's not attempt to dance around the subject with vague generalities. Facts only. Put up or shut up.

  Those who cannot bear the burden of science are free to ignore its precepts. But we cannot have science in bits and pieces, applying it where we feel safe and ignoring it where we feel threatened. Except by sealing the brain off into separate airtight compartments, how is it possible to fly in airplanes, listen to the radio or take antibiotics while holding that the earth is around 10,000 years old? At the heart of science is an essential balance between two seemingly contradictory attitudes_ an openness to new ideas, no matter how bizarre or counterintuitive, and the most ruthlessly skeptical scrutiny of all ideas, old and new. This is how deep truths are separated from deep nonsense. Science requires the most vigorous and uncompromising skepticism, because the vast majority of ideas are simply wrong, and the only way to separate the wheat from the chaff is by critical experiment and analysis. If you are open to the point of gullibility and have no skeptical sense, then you cannot distinguish promising ideas from the worthless ones.   1. The reports of the soft tissue, though remarkable, have been sensationalized further. The tissues were not soft and pliable originally. The tissues were rehydrated in the process of removing the surrounding mineral components of the bone (Schweitzer et al. 2005). Moreover, it is unknown whether the soft tissues are original tissues. Fossil flexible tissues and nucleated cells have been found before in which the original material was not preserved (Stokstad 2005).
  2. The age of fossils is not determined by how well they are preserved, because preservation depends far more on factors other than age. The age of this particular bone was determined from the age of the rocks it was found in, namely, the Hell Creek Formation. This formation has been reliably dated by several independent methods (Dalrymple 2000).
  3. DNA has never been recovered from any dinosaurs nor from anything as old as them, and researchers do not expect to find DNA from these soft tissues (though they can still hope). DNA has been recovered, however, from samples much more than 10,000 years old (Poinar et al. 1998), even more than 300,000 years old (Stokstad 2003; Willerslev et al. 2003). If dinosaur fossils were as young as creationists claim, finding soft tissues in them would not be news, and recovering DNA from them should be easy enough that it would have been done by now.
