Good plan Daunt. Try and keep your spending to an absolute minimum...save as much as you can. Work your butt off. Become the best NON JW you can be. That is the way to show them.
I escaped by going off to college and moving several hours away. Moving into a security apt. was another good step. The elders could never "pop" over without my consent. If that isn't an option you can set up a PO box at the post office to pick up your mail. Good luck!

A Good Escape Plan.
by Daunt ini'm planning on moving out from my jw parents house in about 7 months.
i'm trying to start a job and i already have a little money going into it (bout 2500 dollars little) however, mainly i just wanted to really know if this was the best course of action.
my parents are the usual jw's but i do love them, however, the pressure is just building up from all their jw reasoning and pressure and guilt trips and all that mess.

Do You Think Bag Searching Violates Your Rights?
by minimus inin view of the transit bombings, do you feel that police should be able to search you or your bags at anytime?
-

Hmmm....here's a radical idea instead of spending money on window dressing like bag searches let's spend money on FBI agents that can speak Arabic (which we are extremely short on). Let's spend the money we'd waste on bag searches on more intelligence operatives. Spend the money on response teams to mitigate the damages caused when/if an attack is brought.
In New York on Friday they started with random bag searches that a person can deny being searched but not allowed to enter the transit system. So if a terrorist is toting a bag with a bomb, gets stopped by a policeman he/she can politely decline being searched, walk 3 blocks to another entrance and get on a subway there. So the only bags that will be searched are those with no bombs. (Of course if the police find other contraband while searching your bag, they will arrest you for drug possession, illicit pornography, etc.) Feel good measures that provide no real results yet trample the Constitution.
I'll pass thanks! -

Hey I have nothing to hide...why not full cavity searches too?
Also I say let's search everyone who lives in public housing or in an apartment building or condo....they might be building a bomb inside their apartment / flat and could cause damage to the entire building.
I don't know what the problem with this is?
How many complained when searches like this were quite successfully used to combat Bolshevik sabotage/espionage in Das Dritte Reich?
Maybe the people opposed to this are Enemies of our Glorious Führer!
Your papers, NOW dear comrade! -

Good point big dog.
However I would be hypocritical to argue how I would potentially deal with this. I can argue dispassionately here and now, but under that circumstance who knows right?
But I must say that while many people feel my lifestyle is harmful to society at large, I must give wide berth to those who's lifestyles I do not agree with. I would personally like to see groups like Concerned Women, Focus on the Family and such go away. But for me to argue that the govt. should step in and shut them down is crazy. One can argue that those groups preach hate and thus undermine civilised society. Much as one can argue abortion is not good for society either. But I will stand by my assertion that unless what someone is doing is directly affecting my life, I will defer to them to make their own choice....even one I personally do not fully endorse. -

Just as the bible changed with the NT vs. OT the bible and our idea of God should and does change. Holding to old beliefs on one hand yet allowing more modern interpretations on the other is being biased. Accept that the bible should and does change and it is merely a guide into living. Not the end all be all of books. Also, what about the other books of the bible that were tossed out such as the book of Enoch? See we have always picked chose which portions we wanted to believe in. No different today.

Mary they bombed a tourist area. One where westerners vacation. Yes they did kill more Egyptians than they probably hoped for. But they also do not like Mubarak for his pro-western support either.
Classing all muslims into a neat little box makes it easy to assign blame to all of them. Would you say as a Christian web sites like www.godhatesfags.com speaks for you? Or Waco, TX whack jobs speak for all Americans? -

While as a gay male I will not have to face this decision I will not impose my beliefs on others either.
I would like to see more funds and options available so that abortion is lessened. However, if my next door neighbor opts for an abortion due to a broken condom, drunken fling, or whatever, how does her decision affect me in the slightest ?!? I will defer to the axiom that if what doesn't intrude on my rights or freedoms I shall not impose my beliefs on others.
Her decision will be between herself, her family, and her maker if she believes in a maker as such. -

Walking through the neighborhood - then and now
by alias innot ringing a single bell .
isn't it awesome to take a stroll through the neighborhood with a friend or significant other.
to gaze at the homes you pass and admire the flower gardens, manicured yards, a pop-up in the backyard.

Yes, when you walk by their houses now you ARE HAPPY they have various religions, beliefs, and appearances. Before they were "going to be destroyed" or "sheep to be saved"....nothing more, nothing less. Now you are carefree to walk past and simply wonder....hmmm....what a nice flower garden.
