We call it "hidden racism" - President Obama could fix all our economic problems, find a cure for AIDS, and end world hunger and there are those who would still send hate mail about him. Some people can't value others for what they bring to the table as long as their skin isn't Anglo white.

i was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.

i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!

i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!

I remember studying with a young girl who was about to graduate high school and go off to college.

I remember encouraging her about the seriousness of the fact that the "generation" was nearing its end and with it would be the end of this system.

I remember saying to her how the society was encouraging young people not to go to college because it was a waste of time.

I remember feeling so sad when she told me that she was going to go to college anyway.

I remember sitting there at the assembly listening to one of my favorite brothers explaining the "new understanding" of the generation and wanting to throw up as the realization of what he was saying sunk in.

I remember listening to the audience break out in applause and thinking WTF or actually more like WTH - don't you all GET IT??? This is a MAJOR change in our doctrine and you're applauding??? What about all those people that we've told at the doors and studies with that the end was about to happen because the 1914 generation was sooo old??? Where is the good news that you're clapping about????

I remember looking at my husband in the car on the way home saying - What just happened? Where's the pamphlet with the apology that we need to hand out to everyone?

It was definitely a "looking behind the curtain" moment....and it still hurts!

Did You're Being A Witness Influence You Regarding Marriage or Being Single?

Definitely. Since freely engaging in premarital sex wasn't an option, most of us wanted to get married. I don't know if I would have gotten married when I did if we didn't have the pressures to remain chaste. That being said, we just celebrated our 27th anniversary and I'm grateful to be his wife today. However, I must admit that from time to time I wonder about the experiences I missed along the way.

I'm making an anniversary gift & it makes me sad

it's my sister's 10th anniversary this friday, and i got all gung ho with making a cd with baby pics through wedding day for both she and her husband.

but as i was getting finished making it, a flood of memories came back as to how i was not only not in my big sister's wedding, but i was barely even invited because i was having jw doubts at the time.

grrrrrrr, kinda left me in a sad mood..... i get so angry at the borg for making both my sisters exclude me from their weddings .

It's a tough balancing act when you're dealing with this. Part of me finds it hard to be angry at my best friend for shunning me (because I know her reasons why), but another part of me says - WTF - you should be my friend FIRST before following their stupid rules. After all we've been to each other and done for each other! Depending on the day, I change perspectives.
