Did You Ever Say "Thank You For Disfellowshipping Me?"

after leaving, my sadness turned to anger then bitterness, then dismissal.
but recently, it's all come back to haunt me like a bad disease.

When my elders disfellowshipped me, as I was leaving the room I Thanked Them. Only a few months later I was well and truly out of that mentality and couldn't remember why I'd gone to the meeting in the first place. Cognitive Dissonance. Look it up.
Now, if they were ever to get in contact to apologise, I'd forgive them, and thank them again, this time for a completely different reason. Being disfellowshipped was the second-best thing that ever happened to me. If they hadn't, there's another 2.5 years of my life that would have been wasted already (just since then). I probably never would have worked them out. I'd still be a freak show, I'd be making life hell for my magnificent husband, and I would never live. I really am grateful to those old maggots.

I've noticed that the people who have been able to successfully fade are the ones whose family don't decide to dob them in. Their family might be a bit liberal, or dad might be an elder who understands the game.

They need, either:
- a confession, or
- two witnesses. That can be your parents. If you're rude to the elders who contact you, or you seem like trouble, they might decide they're the witnesses themselves.
If you don't want to be disfellowshipped, stay off the local elders radar completely - don't make contact with them. If your parents do that for you, and the elders contact you, you must be polite, respectful, cheerful, good-natured, kind, humble, and you absolutely can't say anything that might incriminate yourself, such as "I'm having doubts" or "explain to me this (insert any criticism towards the organisation)". Maybe you have stopped attending meetings because you're depressed and you need some time to work this out through meditation and prayer. Thank them for their concern.

Wouldn't describe it as a hate. In my case, it was a hassle they didn't need. My 'friends' didn't want to know, and I lost most acquaintances because I wasn't a source of happiness and light all the time. The elders didn't have time for it.
Dunno, I don't think they stand out from the general population with regards to ignorance about depression though.

Something I don't get: pre-xmas day shopping mad rush. The shops shut for less than 24 hours. We will surely starve.
That said, I do like having solidly stocked pantry, and being able to cook for a week from frozen and dry goods, supplemented by the vege garden. I'm pretty confident we could last a few weeks beyond civilisation.

they roll their eyes, snort, or make snide remarks.
i really pissed me off once when my mom in law told my hubby that if she had known why the older ladies wanted to by some of her plants for, she wouldn't have sold them to them.
