This is an interesting thing . Wonder if any of you have heard what the governing body is telling the witnesses to do? My 22 tear old son was e-mailed by his fanatic witness mom, my ex-wife. She said this, " Son, do you know of a store that sells good dehydrated food, or freeze dried food ? " My son said, " Why do you ask ? " She says, " The society has told us we have to store up 3 days provisions in case we have to leave quickly and leave behind our homes in case of persecution or other things that will come up ! We have been told to store up at least 3 days worth of food ! " My son, shocked said, " I don't think you need to do that Mom ! " She says to him, " Oh! no ! The faithful slave has instructed us to be prepared for anything! We need to do this ! " Then she was ever complimentary to my son and said, " Son, I know you are not a loser. I want you to live in the paradise too ! I know you will do the right thing! " What a condescending statement to her own son. Yes, I know he is not a loser either. That is why he is going to a university and not drinking the witness cool-aid !I'm proud of my winner son !

So, what is this all about ? Has my son's witness mother finally gone off the deep end ? Have any of you guys or gals heard about what the society is telling these people to do ? Sounds like a miniature version of Mormonism to me. Store stuff up ! Jeez! What next? They all gather to jump off the Bethel buildings into the East river in Brooklyn, New York ? All 7,000,000 of them ? Wish they would , kinda! LOL! So, I welcome your thoughts. What has anybody heard about this ? Peace out, Mr. Flipper

I know there has been instructions that each family should have provisions for several days in case of natural disasters (this came about after they were caught totally unprepared to handle Katrina victims), but this is not new, my mother in law told me about this about two years ago.

I live on a fault line and they have been expecting the big one for years. A few years back they had everyone (jw and others) carrying food and water in their cars in the trunk. Then it just kinda faded away when nothing happened.

I have heard from jw relatives that they are encouraging the same for natural disasters now. It seems like they hint about persecution too, just to keep them on their toes.

MRS. JONES- I guess I never thought about it much ! We live up in the mountains, guess I'd just grab my fishing pole and catch us some fish nearby, get stuff in the garden, or chase a deer around ! Don't really know ! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

    An excellent resource would be:

    Dub Profiteering Opportunities, Ltd.

    666 Columbia Heights

    Brooklyn NY 11666

Three days worth of food can be obtained for only $900 per person. No stamps, please.

Since babies and infants are only small adults, no special formulas are stocked.

    Let 'em eat cake.

    PS -

I think the correct theocratic term is not "fault line," but "sin line."

    It's an important detail.

There was a letter to the elders a year or 2 ago recommending that each congregation have some sort of "emergency plan" in case of a natural disaster. The elders were to put together a comprehensive contact list of all publishers with multiple phone numbers and an out-of-state contact number where each publisher would go in case of a mass displacement (such as Katrina).

Part of the recommendation was that the elders were to encourage families to put together a sort of "quick escape kit" in case a natural disaster wre to force a quick evacuation. Blankets, water, food, flashlights, radio, etc.

It would not surprise me that some overzealous / brain-dead elders would "read between the lines" and think the Society was really telling them to "prepare for a wave of persecution", and pass on their own hysteria to the flock.

I suspect that is what happened in this case.

By the way, in general it is a good thing to be prepared in case of emergency - but I believe the real reason for this is that the Society doesn't want a repeat of the Katrina situation. For many months afterward (maybe down until today? Any Louisiana JWs post here?) whole congregations were displaced, hundreds of JWs were "lost" as elders, and thus the Society, were unable to know where they were.
