If they can study that, and can do the cognitive backflips they have to do to make it all okay, they're too manic to miss from your life. You can't buy that kind of affirmation. They're crazy. You're not. It's ok.

It's one of those lines that should go in the list "You know you're in a cult when somebody says...."

Re: Things The WATCHTOWER never taught you - assets v. liabilities
by Nathan Natas inhow do you tell the difference between an asset and a liability?.
well, jokes aside, one very good and very simple test is this:.
"an asset feeds you, and a liability eats you.".

While I agree with your principle, in a couple of years when our house is paid off, it will only cost us $900 a year in rates. An equivalent rental would be $16000pa. Granted, we will have paid $200K for the privilege of living for free, but that's for life. I like the idea that, presuming we can keep our jobs for just another year, we have a very low risk of homelessness (termination payments would wipe the mortgage out).
The truth about owning a home though is that the physical house is a consumer durable (it will wear out and need replacement, it just takes a lot longer than a washing machine). It's the land that appreciates in value. Good land is always an asset. Buy great land land and build an adequate house on it. When you need to use it as your retirement fund, it will still be great land. Ok, unless it's in Detroit.

I discovered that I'd realised the god thing was bogus all along.

My brother-in-law took two months, but another friend spent five years being treated like a ghost before they let him back in. I gave it six months and couldn't bear it anymore. I'm glad I quit actually - it was destroying me and my marriage, trying to get back in. Now I know that I'm much better off without all of the people I've lost. I include siblings and close friends in that statement. It wasn't love or friendship, it was a co-dependence.
Only four years on, I have replaced them all with actual, genuine friends. My friends don't care what I believe.

i have been outed pretty badly as an evil apostate.......BEWARE!!!
by oompa inand in a kinda funny way........this friend of mine.......who is very close friend of my df'd son and is much younger than me.....he has been dfd for ten years and shunned by his family and really reall misses them......and has been in a longterm gay relationship and i always felt bad for him because there is almost no way to come back in...then fade...if you are in a gay relationship.......so anyway he has heard me trashtalk wt a ton...and seemed to have zero problem with that and griped about his wt issues...... so i call him the other day and immediately respond with some comment about the damm cult.......we he says," wow oompa you prob don't know but i am going to all the meetings again!!
so i am just snap....."wow, that is amazing...i had no idea....are you just going back for family...and then try to fade?
" which is what i just knew had to be the case....and i even mentioned how that would be hard to do with his partner all it would be discovered.......get this....."oompa, i am doing this for me and not my family......they don't even know i am going so don't say anything"........so i am in shock and the more we talk the happier he sounds about da troof....and i mean he is like filled with the holy ghost......so i mentioned how many things we have talked about that they teach that we both dissagree about.......and he says he know they prob have some things wrong but all religions do.

But seriously, you know that this is what they do... how can you go putting stuff like that in writing, to the people who will do that? You've got to stop doing stuff like that! You have to protect your own fragile situation first.

Its All About Them Until We Remember Our First Name
by AllTimeJeff ini have been told by more then one person of my propensity to use the phrase "...it's all about them.
" when it comes to the governing body.

In my JC, when they sent me out of the room so they could 'deliberate', they told me to pray to Jehovah while they were, and if I was truly repentant, that would be what would get me off the hook. I hadn't prayed for quite a few years, and I was surprised by how stupid that sounded. Nevertheless, I gave it a go, and of course my heart obviously wasn't repentant enough. Nice one boys, you ignorant old nerds.

Why is America such an unequal society?
by hamilcarr inwith the latest surge of anti-european comments and threads from us anti-progressives on this board, a little bit american self-criticism may be appropriate.. since the eighties, income inequality has been on the rise in american society.
most economists, however, agree that redistributing wealth is a legitimate role for any modern enlightened government.
and even alan greenspan labelled us income inequality a "disturbing tend" which could lead to societal instability.
