Sounds like a lot of effort to go to, to be honest. Why not just cut the umbilical cord altogether and start living your own lives?

Underground Reformed JW movement
by RealNewLight inthis is a movement which has been growing slowly but steadily among young people in spanish and portuguese speaking congregations in the united states.
basically it is a movement created by winesses who believe in much of the teachings of the organization, but do not believe in the authority of the wts, or any other body.
they also do not believe in disfellowshiping, and believe that every decision should be a personal conscience matter.

JWs,Mormon missionaries (and others) fighting to be first to villages?
by ithinkisee in.
i read in more than one place that jws, mormons, and other missionary groups often fight to be the first ones into previously banned areas.. i would love to (a) hear some accounts of this, and (b) find some articles online or somewhere that documents this kind of activity.. does anyone have some?.

I've heard about this too; that all religions who have missionaries compete. You'd be surprised how many there are out there too.

Do they still DF people???
by toladest ini visited my sister recently (she is not a jw and was never baptized but is very close to my mother and brothers) and she was telling me that they are no longer dfing people.
i told her i heard that too, but that they now announce people as no longer being jw which effectively means the same thing.
my ex-sister in law cheated on my brother and began smoking as well.

I think the change in policy is just a PR exercise; it's no longer called disfellowshipping from the platform or in the publications, but it's exactly the same thing. The announcement now goes 'XYZ is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses'.
They've probably realised that they shouldn't use a word that doesn't actually show up in the Bible anywhere. That would be a bit Catholic.

I don't bump into witnesses anymore...............
by JH ini remember years ago, i couldn't pass a day or two without seeing a witness someplace, either walking or in their cars going door to door or just traveling to the hall.
often i'd see them at the grocery store or at the bank.. but it's been months now since i've seen a witness.
gee it's fun not to run into them anymore.

Isn't that a good thing? I am on the other side of town of all my old buddies, and I barely know the locals. But for years I've been the person who never makes eye contact with strangers and therefore doesn't see friends when they walk by. All this time I've been worried about what I'd do if I ran into an old mate, and it's probably already happened and they were the ones who were uncomfortable! Yes that's a nice thought, I'm going with that...

In reality they'd be just as unhappy shunning you as you would be if they did. Spare yourselves that pain and just play the game. Change the subject a lot, go into another room, make the coffee, do the dishes, go play with the dog. Keep everything as light as you can and if anybody corners you and wants specific answers, say 'yeah I've got to think about that' or 'No actually I'm not comfortable talking about that' as much as you have to.
Be cool hon! Don't think you'll be able to talk to them or reason. Just avoid thinking about it and have some good family fun!

Hi hon and welcome. Sorry this is happening to you!
I wonder if those JWs who replied felt like they were lying when they were telling you that, or just thought they were being reasonable. If it's true that they're so reasonable, she will be able to extract a promise from them now, that her living arrangements will never be a hindrance to her spiritual development. Don't get me started.
Wow, isn't your friend lucky? Free food and bills and a lift to the meetings! If only you were straight, then the elder and his wife would be able to convert you too! Sorry but there's no such thing as room for homosexuality in the cult, and they are going to put a lot of pressure on her to make other living arrangments. Jehovah will provide you see, so you should watch your outgoings over the next few months to make sure she's not skimming off what she can before she goes. She might be okay with them ruining her life but don't let it steal your sunshine love.

What Glory in War? / The Next Greatest Generation
by prophecor inwar is hell !
that is the basic premise.
the blood, the gore, the fear, the dead, and those who will be.. as the united states of america goes deeper into the war on terror, a crusade of its own, as it were, there seems to be an unending response of those, willing to risk losing thier lives for the sake of something far larger and greater than themselves.

I think it's a shame that the young people putting themselves in harms way are told a different version of the same lie that got WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, and Gulf War soldiers enlisted; that they need to risk their lives for their country. I don't think it's so much of a problem that the baby boomers are realistic about war, and the delusion that going into one protects your country. Maybe the 'softness' is due to the anger of the baby boomers' youth never being translated into anything other than spending.... the sixties were noisy and provocative, but then you all grew up and bred and bought houses and calmed down.

That education I didn't get....
by sass_my_frass inyeah, so instead of moping about being discouraged from pursuing higher education i've decided to take advantage of this new freedom and have enrolled myself in an undergraduate degree.
i'm going to start on it part-time, and study via correspondence.
the materials for my first unit arrive next week and i've been gearing up for it for a couple of months starting with some short study skills practice; trying to get my dried-out brain working again.

I just got all the material for the first unit. Schooling has changed over the years, all of the guesswork on assessment criteria and scheduling is right there in the folder. They've even very helpfully done a weekly schedule - of course one module per week, but I was all set to go and make a little calendar for assignment due dates and online lesson availability, but all I gotta do is pin this up.
I've started 'buying out time' from other pursuits to go into this one, and, well look at that, that service meeting takes up a good three hour study block...
