It's the most bizarre thing happening in patent law, that's for sure. The Jones pig farm, run by the same family for 5000 years, has bred their pigs to perfection. Monsanto comes in, isolates a couple of genes and puts them out of business.
Re child-to-order: yes it's possible that in a few hundred years it will be quite normal to be altering DNA so you get your perfect baby, but who cares, we'll be dead!

she is a jw, who does not believe in celebrating birthdays and singing this song.. "razzoo's settles lawsuit over religious firing.".

Stupid manager for:
a) hiring her, although it's not as if she'd have put that in her resume
b) firing her. Surely in the most litigious country on earth, a guy's gotta know that you don't fire somebody for religious reasons.
Razzoo's said it disagreed with the suit and said it did not fire Ms. Balentine. A spokeswoman said Ms. Balentine never told the restaurant about her concerns.

i went to a 2 day assembly with 4 teeth pulled the day before.
my gums were bleeding all day but i still went to the assembly .there was a brother who was in a bad car accident the week before with his daughter in a coma.
When I was young: car rolled on the way to the meeting. My sister has had spinal problems ever since, but we made it to that meeting anyway - it was the CO visit!
A few years ago, driving to the meeting I passed a huge car wreck. My bible study was driving to the meeting and rolled her car - it was basically a ball of wrecked metal with her in a little safety bubble in the middle. She went to hospital, I went to the meeting.
i have only been here for six months and i can see why so many people have to leave or at least take breaks from this forum.. what are you doing to cope?

I think it's because this is the place to vent. This isn't where we come when we're having fun, or enjoying ourselves. It's where we come to lick our wounds and find consolation. For a while, just learning that there are so many identical stories around the place is a good feeling, as there aren't many places in our lives that we can tell these stories.

there were some things he was being taught that he agreed with (trinity) some he didnt (faithful and discreet slave being a group of old men in ny).

He feels more hurt than anything else. Feels he has a relationship with God/Jehovah and must get baptizied, but doesn't want to do so in an "organization of law-lessness"
Well, I'm sorry he's feeling hurt, but I'm glad their game didn't work on him, and that he's finding out now rather than later.
as i had mentioned in a thread last week, my dad has been on my case about attending meetings.. i've been to one meeting in about a month and that's not counting the dc.
well he decides to question me before he went off to book study yesterday evening.
he asked if i was going and i told him no.
Our parents know us very well, and know when you're avoiding something. Your mum might be okay with letting you be to work it out on your own, or maybe she just doesn't know how to deal with it. I suggest a polite and respectful approach to it at all times. It can be completely maddening, but don't lose it with your dad - it won't feel good for long.
this has always been my opinion, even as a 'loyal' jw!
i thought that elders were idiots.
i have only ever known one who has ever had any real education, a solicitor and he was an arrogant twonk, the rest were a pathetic bunch of bullies who 'appeared' to be loving and kind but were infact out to find out the shit about everyone and cause as much trouble for everyone as possible.
I remember my Uncle and Aunt out shepherding an Elderly JW woman who was agoraphobic. The local Age Concern charity wuold collect her once a week and take her to her counselling. They visited her and told her that if she didn't return to the meetings Jehovah would not save her at Armageddon. They complained that she then started weeping bitterly at what they said to her. They said they thought they have made her ashamed enough to force her to return to Jehovah. In the end she never went to another meeting again.
That's so sad.
I know a lot of 'nice' elders, but it doesn't stop any of them from running a JC. These guys are just a bunch of sad cases who want somebody to think they're important. In one of my early congregations the PO practically had his own little cult following, and still does.

when i go to get my hair cut, i have a series of very specific lengths that different parts of my hair are supposed to be cut.
today i went to new place and told the girl exactly what to do... this long here... that long there... watch out for the tricky cowlick over here... etc.... did she listen?
no.. instead she got this very intense look on her face and started going at it.

i've never really mentioned my real dad or our relationship but since we've just passed fathers day i thought i would.. the man mum lives with now is my stepdad who i've never seen eye to eye with until these recent months and despite the pain he caused me in the past i feel that i should look out for him now (he's quite a bit older than my mum, in his mid 50's now...not necessarily old but he had a stroke and his mental state isnt what i would describe as normal).
with him i've been on an emotional journey because i can finally move on from the problems he caused and even use my experiences for the better.
megan has played her part in this of course in more ways than one, her stepdad died recently and she didnt have the chance to forgive the things he did properly and it hurts her, i dont want that.
I agree that you and your precious new family are better off without your Dad. We don't actually owe them anything, you know? Keep him out of your life until he apologises for being an ass, and you can see that he no longer is.
I'm worried about this:
I've told my stepdad he can be Grandad to Baby Noah when he's born because he deserves from happyness.
What about Baby Noahs happiness? Are you going to protect him from what your stepdad did to you? Your child is your responsibility; your stepdad is his own responsibility.
