Do you always think the worst

i know i do, as my very first reaction.

but, it is almost always wrong.

i have observed my reaction like this so many times, that, in the background, i'm waiting for the reaction to subside.

I am trying to get over the mentality of thinking the worst of people. The jdubs teach you that anyone not a JW is evil and to be avoided, except of course when trying to convert people. Now I find that there are a lot of truly awsome people in this world--not including hoba's people, but do include you wonderful apostates and people in 'Babylon the Great'. They are greaaaaaaaat! Sorry I couldn't resist adding that.

I really appreciated reading Paul Blizzard's story in his website, Watch the Tower. When his daughter was in the hospital and the court system forced a blood transfusion on her, the JW elders made comments like "I hope she gets AIDS" and he was in big trouble for not kidnapping her out of the hospital. His neighbors from other religions, brought food and emotional support to him and his family at that time when the JW's were shunning them. The local news made an unfavorable news story about it. It really shows who has the true Christ-like attitude toward others, it ain't the JWs.

What's the point of being a JW if you are not guaranteed of paradise anyway

i remember talks at the "kingdom ministry" meeting.

and at times, you'd hear talks (in a past tense) about why so and so didn't make it in paradise.

and they'd say dumb things like "oh, he pinoeered, he gave good talks, but he didn't make it because he was a drinker.

It's especially sad for people like myself who suffer from depression. I had no self-esteem as a teenager and am surprised I didn't committ suicide due to the constant negativity of the JW teachings that one was never good enough, and everything you liked, said or did was scrutinized and a possible stumbling block to someone else.

I remember being 13 years old and being afraid to laugh at a kid at school who fell over one of those round shaped garbage cans--he landed with the round part under his armpit and he cried out 'hey it's a roll-on'. Somehow in my JW mental state I thought I couldn't laugh at that like it was rude or something to joke about deodorants.

Isn't that sad that a person could not just laugh and enjoy the little things in life?

Can you be disfellowshipped for taking a yoga class?

i was just wondering since i've started taking a yoga class.

not that i would mind being df'd but not ready to lose the family.

i lost my wt library cd so i don't have access to the society's stand on yoga.

My jdub sister was into belly dancing if you can believe it. That was until someone became offended and she decided the origin was sexual. I can't believe she couldn't figure that one out on her own! She had groups of sisters coming to her house to learn belly dancing! LOL I was really cracking up at her for that one.

Anyway, if someone finds out you are into Yoga you will be in trouble.

Blood- would you/have you given/taken it?

since leaving the jws and joining my current company i get asked every six months to give blood.

i've never done it and still feel as if i had an accident i would be very reluctant to have a transfusion.. if its not too personal can i ask what others views are on this and your experiences if any?.

I gave blood 2 months ago for the first time. Since I hate needles, I was nervous. But I ate a good meal first and I was fine.

I would take a transfusion if the doctor said I needed one. Modern medicine has come a long way and the Watchtower tries to scare people with their archaic thinking.

Witness School

has anyone here ever gone to a witness school.

you know the school jw's set up to keep their kids separate from the world.

you would have the daily text every morning and of course a kingdom song had to be sung.. i'd love to hear your experiences.

There was one in Sacramento called "Sacramento Prepatory School" or something like that, Prep School for short. Seemed like all the JW kids who went there all had questionable behavior and I doubt all those JW teachers all had teaching degrees.

Hi Sabrina--I just started posting here a couple weeks ago. I have been out for many years. I left when my kids were babies and now they are teenagers. Since I have a sister who is a JW and continues her contact with me, I have taught my children now that they are older to be careful of their aunt. I have been very open with them that I was kicked out, and that if they become JW's--they will be encouraged to cut off our relationship. I love my kids dearly and would not be able to handle that, so I use every opportunity to teach them about the falsehoods, the lies, the changing doctrines, and just in general not to become involved in any type of cults. I'm glad I have been doing this because the other day my sister gave my oldest daughter a magazine; my daughter laughed at the articles because it is so archaic toward teenagers.

Anyway, welcome aboard.

Well reading that makes me utterly sick. Sometimes I am awed at the evilness of people.

Reminds me of the time I read a Readers Digest magazine about countries in Africa where they maim 5 year old girls because women's sexual body parts are considered unclean and the women are not to physically enjoy the sex act. Basically out in the bush without any sterile instruments, they hack away at a girl's private area, cutting away the labia and sewing the hole almost shut. Many girls have died from infection alone, others suffer a lifetime of misery--abnormal menstrual cycles that can't exit the body in a normal fashion, very painful menstruation, extremely painful horrible sex and child-bearing. I almost threw up my lunch when I read the article and got tears in my eyes because I couldn't believe the cruelty.
