  Threw out my collection of Beatle albums! You know because they're worldly and use drugs! UGGHHHHH! What singer didn't use drugs in the 1960s and 1970's? Oh yeah, and Elton John was bad because he was gay. I could go on and on and on. My sister wouldn't let me listen to Michael Jackson when she was home, hee hee hee-- and supposedly he was a Witness at the time.

  I love music, and that crap used to really get under my skin. Needless to say I have a brand new collection of Beatle CD's. I bet now the Jdumbless class thinks Beatle music lyrics are tame compared to more modern songs.

  Why do you post here?

  for me, it's mainly the money and the women, i suppose.. no, but seriously, i was thinking the other day about why i post here.

  in september it will be two years since i left the organization.

  i don't much care for doctrinal debates anymore, and i usually pass on threads that are concerned with he-said-she-said kind of stuff inside the organization.

  What did you want to be when you grew up?

  as a child, what did you want to be, when you became an adult?

  if you could, would you want to go back in time, and become what you wanted to be in the first place?.

  When I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian, when I was a teenager I wanted to be a housewife of a JW, I've mostly been doing secretarial and administrative work which I want to become more technical and less secretary.

  Now what I want to be when I grow up, is the most awsome Apostate in my county. Eventually I think I'm going to be affiliated with some religious organization that gives emotional/spiritual support to people who have left cults. I also want to pursue some hobbies to get me closer to nature--possibly photography of nature and animals.

  Explain you religion/beliefs in a nutshell

  lately i have been pondering my lack of a belief system.

  i think that being a jw really turned me off to believing in anything since it was all crammed down my throat.. i have been feeling a need to believe in something.

  i think i believe that something created us but not sure if it was one god or many.

  I went to a church called Christ Unity for a while, I'm not sure if it's the same as Unitarism. They taugh metaphysical non-denominational religion. Then I went to a Baptist church for a while. Sometimes I just don't know what I believe in. I've been reading the Bible more lately, and I do think it makes sense that there is a creator. But I feel confused at times. My husband is a hard-core Christian who believes that Christians will be caught up in the rapture at any time now, and then the anti-Christ will come to power over the world. He sees everything in black and white. I see big shades of gray.

  I know I want to be a better person in general, as far as the way I treat other people. I really get offended by judgemental religious people, which is why I'm confused and sometimes really turned off to the whole religion thing. I am really uncomfortable with churches who preach against gays and abortion and stem cell research or just too fanatical and emotional about what they teach. And I am reallllly uncomfortable with churches where people speak in tongues and cry and collapse and carry on.

  is it normal for one who is a somewhat new convert to become emotionless?

  maybe that's not quite the right word, but, husband just doesn't seem to care when there is a problem in the house with one of us.

  he will just say things like, 'well, i'm sorry you feel that way' and nothing more!!!

  I like the point Talesin makes regarding vested interest, Once the person is baptised, it is like being turned into a Stepford wife or a robot. Their only thinking is that the new system is coming, so why bother trying to fix anything that's wrong? I was like that when I was a JW.

  ok sometimes i feel it's good to maybe not redress the balance, but at least can you say something positive that you gained from your jw experience.

  so thats what i want you to do, if you so feel inclined.

  can you say or mention something that had a positive effect on you when you were a witness?

  Well I have fond memories of my 'friends' I had during my teenage years. We had a lot of fun. But the flip side of that--they weren't really my friends because now they won't speak to me.

  Does Devil Talk Irritate You?

  i enjoy reading the bible on my own since i left the jw's.

  i get extremely irritated when other people talk to me about how satan is causing certain things in my life--example is if i'm not getting along with a coworker or anything like that.

  (my husband also blames satan).

  Well I liked reading Rod's post, and I do believe that God and evil exists. But even though I believe that evil exists--I don't believe that every time I have a bad day or am upset by something, that it is because Satan is harrassing me. I know that there are people out there who are into black magic and witchcraft and all that.

  I guess I just get irritated with my spouse. I love him dearly, but he spends hours reading the Bible every week and always blames problems in our life to Satan. This is what the JWs do and also a lot of Christians do this also. My husband is a person who has had a terrible childhood--at 10 years old he was taking a bus to buy groceries for his sickly mother and sister while his absent father was fooling around with other women, and his uncle spent several years sexually abusing him. So he had a very terrible childhood and no one was there for him. I think his mother was extremely religious and they attended a charismatic type of church.

  Anyway I'm rambling on and getting off the subject. But what I am trying to relate is that I think my husband has personal demons he needs to deal with and he needs to take responsibility for the choices he's made in his life. I do believe in evil but like other people have posted, we all make choices and suffer the consequences.

  When you watched Star Wars did you feel like me?

  i could not help but think when the jw's watch star wars that anakin skywalker darth vader types in their minds are the apostates on the dark side selling their souls to the devil.

  i think some jw's will feel a self in powering zeal that testifies to their soul how misguided the all of us are.

  i know that when my brother (self righteous elder) watches this movie he will liken anakin skywalker to his poor misguided apostate brother.

  Actually the latest Star Wars was as exciting to me as the original ones that came out when I was a teenager, I had started to lose interest in Star Wars.

  So I wasn't thinking about the Jdubs, I was remembering the enjoyment and excitement I had when I was young watching Star Wars.
