  The BEST things about the USA

  we`ve seen some pretty mean usa bashing.so it`s time for a new thread about the good things in the usa..first off they got coors beer,a dam fine beer i must say.disineyland,what kid dosen`t want to go to disineyland?been there more than a few times and i intend to go again.tex-mex food,i`ll be dammed if i can get a decent enchilada this side of the border.the oregon coast with the giant red wood forest,a beautiful drive on a holiday.the humungas servings when you go to a usa restaraunt,especialy the steakhouse`s.so if you live in the usa,or go for a visit like i do,what are the things you enjoy in the usa?...outlaw edited by - outlaw on 2 july 2002 20:25:30.

  I've several friends from Great Britain, and this is what they've noticed about the US.

  Climate control , especially Air Conditioning

  Ice Cubes, the fist sized American kind, and plenty of them, for your 32oz drink (for less than $1.50)

  When you go to an eating establishment, and order "a sandwich", you will get a) An attractive sandwich, with plenty of meat on hearty bread; b) A side that is usually included in the cost; c) It will usually be served attractively, sometimes garnished. and d) you will get some sort of pleasant service from a neatly dressed, polite individual (unless you go to McDonald's, in which decent service is a crapshoot.)

  After visiting this country, they realized why Yanks are so demanding when they visit overseas. We get used to certain standards, and are surprised when those standards are missing from the older, "more civilzed", nations.

  Dress up any silly words in Latin, and it sounds profound!

  watchtower has been ordering their adherents to break federal and state laws regarding reporting of child abuse;.

  I was reflecting on how it is very apparent that Headquarters is going to let the individual congregations twist in the wind for "not following procedure."

  If I were an elder on a JC calling the Society for advice, I would,from this point on,start taping those phone calls, transcribing them, and having the whole thing notarized and certified and locked in a vault, as good CYA measures. When HQ then tries to escape from the legal entanglements that might result, what better smoking gun leverage than this?

  i guess everyone's speculating on the reaction of the wts to last night's dateline.

  seen a few reactions posted here so far, but nothing to indicate what the gb is going to do about it.. i think the average r&f dubs are going to have a far more adverse reaction than many think.

  while the face put on to the public and to people like us may say "apostate attack", the private personal reaction we don't see is the one to consider.. how can this not cast doubt in all but the most hardcore dub?.

  I got to thinking, regarding the above comment about hard-line talks on the subject at this years convention. My thinking was, "How can they have a talk in particular about the Dateline show, when the Convention program is already in the can (so to speak)?"

  Then I realized, since when does the body of a talk have to have any relationship to its theme. Considering that most themes at convention talks are so general, they could be used for any kind of talk. "Loyalty to Jehovah", "Keep Doing What is Right", "Are You Being Faithful in What is Least?", etc. Any one of these themes (and, Boy, don't They sound familiar?) could be used for anything from Not Listening to Apostates to Volunteering for pre-Convention Cleanup.

  I mean, it's not like the majority in the audience is actually matching the talk to the theme. Most of us, if asked what any talk was about, could safely cover our butt and say "It was about Jehovah and The Kingdom". (or my favorite, "It was about 45 minutes long.")

  Of course, there is always the DO's closing comments, slated for 40 minutes, usually lasts 55. I guess that is where they could squeeze in the more "timely" info...

  ::Now the unofficial word that is going around. My uncle lives in Arkansas near this area says this is what they (the athorites) are not talking about, but the people are saying. They are saying that terriorist are actually responisble for this. That it is just a cover saying that the man had a seizure, just to keep people from freaking, I am guessing. But for those of you who are not famuliar with this Highway 40. It goes completly through the country from East Coast to West Coast. It is one of the major roadways for the trucking industry. Both east and west bound traffic shut down.

  Time for a reality check here. If it was terrorists, do ya think the gov't would be making the shmuck driving the barge the fall guy while he was still alive? Also, too many people saw the barge hit the supports as it was happening. I think the plain mundane truth is that the idiot fell asleep, had a blackout. But why is it when these idiots
  do these kind of things, they always manage to take a few people with them?

  FYI, east-west traffic is not completely shut down. There ARE alternate routes, even though it will be a b*tch traveling to Fort Smith for the next few months.

  In a related story, I hear that an hour up north, near Wagoner, another bridge got damaged recently by a construction crew, when they lost control of a crane, which toppled over while removing the old bridge. My state tax dollars at work!

  remember that article brothers?we have been up and running for less than a week and already have had accusations of apostacy bandied about.please stop and think before you make a serious allegation like this.

  imagine the hurt it would cause to a genuine brother if it wasn't true.this doesn't mean that we should let our guard down against those who would try and disrupt things or cause divisions amongst us but i'm sure these poeple would like nothing more than to see us fall out with each other.some of these rumours have been spread by members of other boards or people pretending to be them.just be on your guard to this sort of activity and help us by not passing on unfounded accusations.thank you.
