Lost Tales of Middle Earth, they have a Silmarillion quality to them, and I guess they flesh out a lot of stuff from Silmarillion.

I just finished The Silmarillion. Any suggestions on next Tolkien to read?
by sd-7 ini've read 'the hobbit', 'the lord of the rings' (including the appendices, well, except the shire calendar and elvish language), and 'the silmarillion'.
i was really impressed with 'silmarillion'.
almost seems like it could be a movie in itself.

BROTHERS & SISTERS - READ THE BROCHURE!
by The Searcher injesus always used illustrations to help people reason on the import of what he was saying.
here is an illustration followed by a reality;.
imagine that your heart went out to all those poor people who suffered when fukushima blew up, so much so, that when an internationally renowned charity asked for donations to help those in need, you donated $5000 to the cause.

Old Hippie, I'll see your assertion, and raise you 10...
I know a brother who lost his entire house in a tornado many years back. The circuit overseer put immense pressure on the brother to have the RBC rebuild the home, using RBC plans, and then turn the check over to the Society. The brother was very reluctant to do this, as he did not feel that the house plan proposed would fit in with the other houses in the neighborhood, nor would it be at the quality that he would expect from a "worldly" contractor. Eventually, he flat out told the CO "No." Which angered the CO, who told the brother that he had an inflated attitude.
So, O.H., it's not that the brothers should get free work; they should have the CHOICE of WHO does the work, and not get pressured into giving the Society a sweetheart deal, or, as in the case of the house not even NEEDING the work done, shouldn't get pressured into committing insurance fraud (which is what it is, plain and simple). -

WTS action on Conti's case 3/27/2013
by mind blown inas most suspected, the wts filed their brief, at least it looks that way..... http://appellatecases.courtinfo.ca.gov/search/case/dockets.cfm?dist=1&doc_id=2025979&doc_no=a136641.
it also notes aob in excess of word count limit.. wonder if they did that to buy more time?.

In the book "Judging Jehovah's Witnesses" by Shawn Francis Peters (a very good read, by the way. Goes into great detail about the Gobitas Flag Salute case and the resulting cases after that), the writer observed that at the local trials, the defense of the ministry by the Witnesses and their lawyers was amazingly inept. A lot of court time was wasted with preaching of doctrine instead of arguing the free speech or freedom of religion merits of the case. Invariably, the lower courts would decide AGAINST the Witnesses, and then the appeals process would begin, with the legal maneuvering designed to get the case moved up as high as it would go, and eventually, some of these cases made it to the Supreme Court.
The Society is like that good ol' boy used car salesman: friendly, unthreatening in appearance, easy to talk to, makes you think that YOU are getting the better of HIM, and then, end result, you got sold a hoopty, and he took every cent you got, and the gold fillings in your teeth besides. This is not going to be over any time soon. Sorry, folks! -

The WT lawyers will keep this going forever. It's what lawyers do.

The reason they like to highlight the suffering of Jesus at the memorial
by Xanthippe inis so they can then use it as an excuse to make the congregation work even harder.
surely if jesus had six-inch nails hammered through his hands you can do more in field service.. if jesus could die of slow asphyxiation on the torture stake you can get to the convention even if you have four kids and two jobs or are 93 and nearly blind.. you are letting jesus down and making his agony count for nothing if you don't give until it hurts.. this is why they talk about a man being tortured to death in graphic detail in front of little children as i once was at the kingdon hall.
this is why i dreaded the memorial..

Where I was at, it was all First Adam, Last Adam, who partakes (no one in this room), who doesn't (everyone in this room) blah blah blah. No suffering, hardly any Jesus at all!

My thoughts on the 2013 Memorial
by BU2B ini went to what i hope will be my last memorial last night, and my thoughts are similiar to what many have expressed here already but here is what i took away.
i can tell from previous reviews that all the speakers seem to be sticking pretty close to the outline, so it dosent matter much who gives it, you cant diverge from what "mother" says.. 1. no time was given to really appreciate the suffering jesus endured all for the sake of forgiving our sins.. 2. all thanks was given to jehovah for jesus sacrifice.
while i apprecite what the father went through here, on the memorial of christs death, shouldnt the appreciation and honor be given directly to him?.

Spot on, BU2B. Same analysis over here. No real feeling of inspiration or thankfulness, just a rote recital, emphasis on not partaking, "the number of partakers is very small!" (and growing every year), mechanized passing around of the emblems, same bon mots I have heard over the years "unleavened, because in the Bible, leaven represents leaven, I mean, sin" (actual quote, by the way), and "it's real wine, not grape juice, because they didn't have refrigeration (this is a big point in my region of the US, because of the Dry Baptists and their feelings against alcohol)". Another waste of an evening, but I did get to make contact with a friend I hadn't seen in years, so it wasn't a total waste. I feel sorriest for my kids; since we don't go, they have no social ties to any of the teens in that hall, and no one talks to them. As far as I am concerned, my kids have more on the ball, brains and talent wise, than that cliquish bunch, anyway. I have much more regard for the friends they have from school than any of those phony-baloneys.

Probably about as bad as a 8 day International Convention, with only one toilet working. But with less people.

Books that make you go hmm....
by jgnat init's occurred to me that i have been reshaped by the books i have read, taking my new knowledge for granted, and forgetting that those around me have not been on the same journey.
as a consequence sparks fly, as iron sharpening iron, as we strive to understand each other (or to insist that we are not the same).
there are a few books that stand out, as i refer to them over and over again.

Hey it's all Great! but...remember one thing, in the Manor Houses of "yor" - Yorkshire lads and lasses, Eastenders , Liverpudlians and Bristolians NEVER worked together...let alone be able to understand each other - It would have been like the Tower of Babel down in the basement.
LOL! I wondered about that! They'd be going, "Huh? What? SPEAK ENGLISH!"
It's like the Weasley's in the "Harry Potter" movies, each sibling speaks with a different accent.Anybody notice how Daisy and the new girl look almost alike, except the new girl is a foot taller?
