i have the opportunity to take an independent study class through my university this summer.
my advisor, a history professor, suggested i choose jehovah's witnesses as a topic.. we are now trying to formulate a syllabus.
she suggests i write two papers: one on the history of jws, and another on their doctinal approach.. so now my question is...what books/articles/videos do i list on my syllabus as sources i intend to read and use for the papers?.

"Judging Jehovah's Witnesses" is a good history of the many court cases that occurred in the 30s-50's (for instance, The Gobitas Case). It's not Pro or Con Witnesses exactly (the writer does think that wasting the various courts time with "Witnessing" to the judge was not a good legal technigue.)

a few minuites ago talking to my sister who is finally seeing the watchtower for what it is and is scrutinizing it alot brought something to myu attention that troubled my longtime jw mother dearly.
she said after reading the article about the death of guy pierce she noticed that they never refered to him as brother pirce.
she said everytime they mentioned his name they refered to him as mr. pierce.. .

so basically he is a subcontractor for a company that owes him money, and has been paying him very poorly for his service.
(industry wide problem).
so he e mails them a venting e mail, saying he will no longer take work, giving them a date he expects the pay to be cut or he leins properties etc.... he gets a response, they go back and forth, and the last response they send the check and at the bottom post a scripture (he didn't remember which one) with the phrase "and we will continue to serve our god jehovah".
Whenever I see the words "Christian Business" or see a fish on the business sign, I run in the opposite direction.

the financial aid offer came in.. the first year of attending is actually cheaper than what we were going to pay at the state university after their scholarship offer.. i mean, really cheaper.. we would be fools to turn it down.. they are even flying him in for the preview week.. .
Engineering, probably, but the beauty of MIT is you don't declare til you are a Sophomore.
Everyone in the Freshman class pretty much starts out the same.
