is this for real?.
check out the 'science projects' specifically.
This has got to be the funniest website I have seen in a long time!
Even more clever than 'The Onion'
Check out the staff resume's!
thousand of witnesses do it every year and for what they believe are good reasons.
i did it because i was pressured by elders.
its interesting to note how elders can target young people into committing their life to something they really know nothing about.
I did it to impress a girl I liked, who was also getting baptized at the same assembly.
What a pathetic reason....
the worst experience i think i ever had with jws acting badly was one time when a good friend of mine (a former jw like myself) tom, had a jw cousin in the hospital due to a very bad car accident.
his cousin (a woman in her late thirties) had suffered severe head trauma and it was not known at that time if she would recover.
practically all of toms immediate and extended family was jws.
We were involved in a horrific accident involving our (then) three year old son. At the emergency room, the receptionist reached out with some comfort by telling me that she had called all her "prayer partners" (kinda like chain mail to God.) At first, even then!, my JW forcefield started to raise up, until I made myself realize that this lady was just performing an act of kindness. I still am touched when I think back on this, seven years later.
Meanwhile, back at my Own flock...one family, who I have known for years, and I thought were my friends, would ask me if I intentionally threw my child out of the car, and that they had often thought of doing the same when the kids got out of line, yuk yuk yuk. It was an incredible contrast.
Makes one wonder who really does appreciate the sanctity of life, if attitudes can get that "flip" amongst JWs....
BTW, my son is almost ten now, and aside from some (relatively) minor scars, is doing just fine. But that was too &%$&%$* close on that day!
it's saturday night!!
let's have some fun...... .
here's one of mine:you have the manners of a goat.
"hey you bastards".....Steve McQueen-Papillon
"Books!...." Danny DeVito, Matilda
Here's one "You better watch it, you're turning into Ralph Kramden's evil twin!"
Another from the same movie. Person one:"This guy looks too good to be true, he's probably an ax murderer, or something"
Person two: "Now why you gotta say that, he's probably from out of town."
Person one: "Well, his car does have Iowa plates." (Walks toward stranger, comes back) "Where was the
Clutter family from?"
Person three: (Immediately, not missing a beat) "Kansas!"
Another one, different movie---Beautiful woman:"You are the greatest lover I have ever known"
Man:"I practice a lot when I'm alone!"
this is hilarious!
i am so surprised that the society has counsel on learning the klingon language.

Ah yes, Esperanto, the official language of Riverworld!
Well, I just checked the CD, and there are a few passing mentions.
Apparently, "Millions Now Living" Etc Etc WAS translated into Esperanto in the 30's, with Da Judge's permission, of course. A talk was given in Europe around this time too.
Later articles, when mentioning it, comment on how it was invented so that better understanding of each other would help in World Peace, but ony God's Kingdom (tm) can bring that about, yadda yadda.
Kinda reminds me of the Babel fish from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Because it allowed greater understanding between the races of the entire universe, it has been the cause of the largest and bloodiest wars in history.
this is hilarious!

Whoops!!!!
I guess I better listen to my own advice next time!
I really thought you were quoting from a faked Young People Ask.. article from a while back called "Should I watch Star Trek?"
They had a sentence in there about "Christian Youths" shocking their parents by speaking Klingon.
I guess the society had to play catch-up at that point, and write the real thing.
Depressing. I knew a family that the parents restricted the kids from watching things like Star Wars, made them the primo examples in the Hall, and the second they came of age, Kablooie! All of them went into unrestrained behavior. When will they ever learn?
this is hilarious!

What I can't believe are the number of posts that are taking this as an actual article from the Awake! magazine.
Has anybody ever heard the word, spoof?
The first time I saw this article was in the early 90's on the old "Free Zone" website (boy do I miss that site, very friendly, lots of articles).
There was also a "Questions from Readers" about if it was appropriate for Witnesses to own cats, which was in the same vein.
I must admit that the spoof is so good at aping a typical Awake article, that it feels like the real thing, but sorry folks; The society has condemned comic books, chess, Dungeons and Dragons, E.T., movies which feature supernatural characters, video games, the internet, and they have written articles on how fantasy places like Disneyland cannot bring lasting happiness (well, DUH!), but I have never seen a genuine, specific article targeting Star Trek.
Always check your source before accepting it as fact. A good rule of thumb for anything on the Internet...
remember back to the days you were in the theocratic school and had to give talks, were they the worst or what, i remember they were suppose to run about 6-8 minutes, i had some short as 3. the talks were pointless, you would just throw some mumble jumble together and go up and talk, first the introduction (and don't forget your gestures), then read the weekly scripture and then the conclusion, all your words of wisdom.
i would rank this second on the worst list next to field service (still # 1).. how about you, did you enjoy doing them ?
did you even prepare for them ?
I'm going to put myself in the plus column for enrolling in the school.
It is a great way, for the males in particular, to get used to speaking before large groups of people. This can be used to your advantage later in life, especially if your job requires you to make a presentation to clients, as mine does.
As far as restrictive outlines or emphasis on things like gestures, proper enunciation, etc., Toastmasters requires the same thing, and they come down harder on you. As a matter of opinion, I think the Ministry School Guidebook is a lift from the Toastmasters anyway.
My boys have enrolled in the School already (both are younger than 10) and they really love it. They are so enthusiastic about showing their skills at reading, and I think this is a positive experience for them. And now that there is no longer an intro/conclusion for the number 2 talk, my life is a little easier in helping them prepare and yes, I am the hardest drill sergeant there is. After several practices, they get "gonged" for missing sentences, losing volume, run-ons, etc. And its amazing how well they do when they get up in front of the group! Very enthusiastic and excited! I am so glad that at least this one thing is something they can take part in.
A little self improvement never hurts anyone....
