I knew someone who was getting married. It was a happy time. Everyone was very happy. Shortly before the wedding, something came out about the husband. It wasn't defined what he had done, but it was sufficient enough so that they could not get married in the Kingdom Hall. It disturbed me. Just because he made a mistake, she's screwed. All those plans they made, and now they have to scramble and find another place to have the wedding and shell out more money undoubtedly. And, how was I able to find out that it was him that screwed up? An elder told us. Don't you think it's embarrassing enough to have everyone know you aren't getting married at the KH, and on top of it, an elder you trust is spreading your gossip?

Dubs telling people who they should and should not marry.
by LongHairGal ini know of several experiences of couples who got married against the unwanted advice of the busybodies at the hall.
and i am not talking about a sixteen year old girl marrying a seventeen year old boy either!
these were people way over 30. .

Thanks for the blessings.
That always bothered me. Women always seem to get the short end of the stick. And the only answer I would get is, "But that isn't how God felt. He still doesn't feel that way. It was imperfect man." OK, yeah, but, he couldn't have stepped in?
I don't know if I'll ever be able to believe in God.

So I'm at the meeting tonight.............
by JV ini'm looking through the new awake magazine (great article on shoplifiting by the way) and this older sister comes and sits beside me.
she started talking to me about this great little piece in the magazine about fish or something that should be on my dinner plate, something that i don't really care about, then she turns to me and said and i quote " where else but jehovah's organization can we learn such things?
i sat there with a dumbfounded look on my face thinking " are you kidding me?

Haha...I shop at the Gap and drink Starbucks too. Beware the effects of rap. One thing I love about leaving the Dubs. I can listen to any damn thing I please.

JWs betraying you to the elders.
by greendawn ini was once betrayed by an unknown person to the elders for buying soft porn magazines in a shop.
i never managed to figure out who it was since there were many people in the shop (news agency) at the time and i never noticed a jw from the local congo or one from other congos in the area that i knew.
to this day it's a mystery to me who saw me there and went to tell the elders.

Exactly EvilForce. That's how I felt about my "friend". Never mind that if at any point this "friend" felt stumbled, they could've easily said, "I don't feel comfortable with this conversation." But they listened to every word and then ran and told the elders.
Thanks for the words of caution. I'm getting tired of hiding though, I really am. I don't want to get DFd, but if it happens, I will have to accept it and move on with my life. I am really tired of them controlling me like I'm a puppet.

There were always some accounts in the Bible that really puzzled me. Two of the ones that stand out in my mind most:
1) Lot and his daughters. Lot's daughters got him drunk and then had sex with him. Maybe I'm crazy, I admit, I don't know as much about the Bible as I once claimed to know, but wasn't that prohibited in the Mosaic Law? Couldn't God have found another way to continue their lineage? I never got it, and it grossed me out.
2) I believe it was Judah and Tamar. Two of Judah's sons were killed by God(one for disobedience I think, the other for "spilling his seed" and not producing a child). Judah did not want this third son to be killed,so he wouldn't let him marry Tamar. She dressed up as a temple prostitute and Judah visited her and impregnated her. What I didn't get was, he was angry and saying she should be stoned because of her harlotry, and yet HE visited a prostitute. Was that not wrong? I never quite understood. Did anyone else have any confusion, and did they ever get an answer about it?
I was always told to "wait" if something wasn't quite clear now, it would become clear later and I would be blessed for my faithfulness.

Another less serious incident I forgot to mention(undercover's post reminded me of it, and I've mentioned it in other threads) was when we had the book study at our house and some "sisters" felt that our house wasn't clean enough. So instead of offering to help, or offering to have the book study at their house instead, they went to the elders and the elders talked to us about it. It was a real eye-opener for me, that the loving brotherhood would see fit to go behind your back instead of trying to help you.

Women, is it really necessary to scream when....
by Nosferatu inlast year, i was driving and my wife was in the passenger seat.
a wasp flew in the window and landed on her.
she started screaming like she had been shot.

Actually, I remain as still as possible. I hear that if you wave and swat at it, it gets angry and feels threatened and stings. I don't know if that's true or not, but it's worked for me so far...eventually they go away. I've never been stung.
