for a long time, before working with people in this situation, i would have answered this question with .... "i feel for them and i know how degrading it must be, to come to this point in their life to have to depend on the government to sustain them" .

... once i got up close and personal with these people, i have learned that my answer only applies to a small group of those on government assistance.

well from my experience, those on government assistance are more often about taking advantage of the system, then they are about actually being in need of help.

I have had to take what I can get at times. It was either that or starve. There is nothing wrong with taking a lowly job you feel you are overqualified for. At least it is work with some compensation until something better comes along. It looks better on a job application than a bunch of gaps in your work history.

i'm a bit out of the loop - what is the latest take on this?

i know that some fervent jws have in the past decided not to have children (which i always thought was a bit dumb) on the basis that they could have perfect ones in the new system but from my perspective , jws (strong & weak) are breeding like rabbits , without any censure or disapproval.. is it still a mark of spirituality not to have kids & is it still encouraged?

and excuse my ignorance (**blushes**)- how do you guarantee not to have children (eg for married bethelites)?

i have the full complement of body parts and organs including my tonsils, appendix, foreskin and 32 teeth.. is anybody else as complete as me?

any funny stories on missing body parts?

OMG I have never thought about this as I'm "cut" but man would that hurt!!

I am missing a few teeth (replaced with root canals and crowns) but other than that I have everything with the exception of the above mentioned parts.

I dont know what the wts take is on that but I remember they they had a talk discouraging having kids in "the time of the end" at the convention the year I was baptized but I never noticed anybody taking heed to that advice since the JWs are having kids as much as mormons are.

why going through the new testament nobody ever recorded anything regarding jesus when he was a teenager going through puberty and growing into a mature man?

i think it would be appropriate if men were to follow his example there should be specific examples of how he dealt with sexual drives, etc.

since testosterone and hormones play a part in a person's sex life.

Why does the scriptures just mention when he was 12 and then skip to when he is a grown adult?

Do J.W.'s deliberately lie to new converts?

when i showed my daughter a story of an old man who was df'd and shunned for asking questions about w.t.

doctrine, she said "he must have had a big sin".

so, this is what my daughter is being taught, that you have to have a "big sin" to be disfellowshipped and shunned.

They deliberately lie through omission (or change what they already printed) and do not disclose what they used to teach. They lie to protect ~~the watchtower society~~ kingdom interests.

New light re: talking to DF'd persons

i was df'd in 1985 and have not been back since.

of course disowned by my family.

at that time they rarely called or came over because i had small children and they called just enough to semi maintain a relationship with them.

However, it seems like there must be a new light or something because over the last 5 years they do call once or twice a year about nothing in particular.

Do you have any other siblings? Are they in the organization? Perhaps they are thinking they may need to keep some level of contact with you if they are elderly and may need your help sometime in the future in taking care of them since they WTS wont.
