I haven't posted here in ages, but this one is close to home for me. I am not a Second Life expert, but I have checked it out because it's all the rage in my profession (librarian, go figure). I'm going to make a crazy suggestion. Why not try an Apostafest in Second Life? Anyone could attend, it wouldn't matter where you lived. I'd be there in a heartbeat. I have been looking for a good reason to use it.
I don't really consider Second Life to be a game. It's more like the next step for myspace.
i'm asking if people might take a moment to seriously consider this.
now by asking this question i don't mean to imply anything like "just get over it already" - i don't think it's so simple as that.
but it's occurred to me that the mental freedom is actually not as valuable to some people as other things, and we do know the jw experience does effect other things in one's life like relationships and livelihood, or one's ability in these kinds of life arenas.
I have stared at this question for a long time. It's like Mt. Everest. I'm one of those people that dropped out and went on with everything and never delt with the issues that my upbringing had instilled in me.
Because on the other hand you can ignore it and just find good life experiences and never deal with it - maybe.
I did that for years, but it caught up with me. I don't know, maybe I just reached the point in my "hierarchy of needs" that I had to deal with it and thus, get over it.
For me, getting over it looks like a lot of work, and a lot of time that I don't really have. Sometimes it is something that I really want to do, and sometimes I'm just furious. No, I don't really want to climb that Mt. Everest, I just want to be on the other side.
i mean a specific location that you would go to time and again to just sit and look and enjoy?
or a favorite vacation destination?.
i love the cascade mountains as example.
New Orleans, French Quarter, the Mississippi River. I just love to sit there, on the wooden steps, and watch the river go by. Usually, someone is playing the sax in the background.

the other day i got into a discussion of opinion and i have to ask you all for your opinion because i am so curious what people may think about the topic.. i am on a kick now, lately that i feel the urge to tell everyone how much i love them.
While I was reading this post my son read it over my shoulder. He's a bit more cautious than I was at his age, and we recently had a conversation about it. He remembered what I had said and repeated it back to me. "I would rather regret the things I have done...." (I know, I should just be thankful that he's not getting into all the trouble that I did. Instead I worry that he's missing out on life).
I wish I could take credit for the quote. I wasn't sure, but a little research shows that Lucille Ball said it before me. It's so true.

The thing that really resonates with me is how you broke the cycle. You did not become your parents. You are a loving, caring mother to those children. That much is apparent through many of your posts. They are lucky to have you.
I understand what you mean when you say "I needed her because if I didn't I don't think I would be here." I don't think I would still be here if it weren't for my son. His existence made me need to be alive and the best person I can be.
Yes, you can go back to school. It's never too late. Do it now. Do it one little step at a time. When you reach a barrier, get mad at it and trample all over it. We will all be here cheering you on.

i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.

IP_SEC, I can't say anything that hasn't already been said. I just wanted to add my kudos and support to the growing numbers here. Watching the breaking/freeing process is affecting. We are fortunate to have you here, and I'm happy to be part of such a brilliant support network.
for the past year, i have been observing the jw kids that i know.
i am in a unique situation as i work at the local high school, therefore see many of them on a daily basis.
let me tell you, 80% of them are totally undistinguishable as jws.
Jez, I understand your frustration at the hypocracy, but I think they deserve a little more compassion.
I was one of those jws living a double life in high school. I was a terrible teen. I went to parties, dated, snuck out of the house constantly, drank, smoked, drugs. And three or more times a week I went to the kh and pretended I was living according to standards that I couldn't possibly aspire to and didn't agree with.
It is hard to be a teenager and that stuff just makes it harder. I wasn't encouraged to join any constructive activities, such as sports or clubs. It's no wonder that some jw kids end up worse then some of their worldly peers.
I think that being able to "stop the lie and live" requires more maturity than the average teenager has.

there has been similar threads, but maybe if we get more specific about when we like to listen to a particular cd it could be interesting.
i was just listening to the oracle cd by michael hedges, great mellow acoustic guitars and i love the cover of tomorrow never knows.
so this one i'd say is for relaxing and blissing out.
I have whole playlists for any occasion, far too long to mention.
My two best "feel good" songs at the moment are "Child Inside" by Quamba Zoo. (It's a song that plays on a lot of Sea World commercials) and "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett. They both bring me an instant sense of happiness.
