  do i have any rights?

  i sent a letter to the elders before i got df'd and i would like it back.

  i was not of sound mind (in my opinion) when i wrote it and foolishly disclosed stuff that i would rather was not in their hands.

  does anyone know if i can get it back?

  if you had an elder you were close to you could appeal to them thru him on your 'diminished mental capacity at time of writing' and you may be accommadated ...you would have been by me...so there may be someone in your ex cong that would be understanding

  i can't recall there being even one elder that i was close to. in nine years i never went over their doorstep for any reason other than field service meetings or book studies. they partook of my hospitality though, bless them.

  i once asked for help with my family bible study (i'm a single mother with three fatherless boys, one literally as his father died when he was two and the younger ones because of divorce) and was curtly told that it was my responsibility and that was that. now that i am no longer "in" i cannot imagine that they would be more accommodating.

  i guess i'll just have to get over it. just makes me feel a bit sick inside, sometimes.

  you sound like you were a nice elder, if that's not a contradiction in terms. a nice bloke, anyway.

  i love foreign films, dramas, comedies.

  if it is just pure unadulterated no-brainer laughs that you want then i highly recommend dodgeball.

  my son brought the dvd home and i said no i don't want to watch that rubbish.

  i read your biog and see that you sent a letter too.

  i feel such a jerk for sending one but i could not bear the thought of going into intimate detail in front of three elders.

  i know now that i should have just ignored the system and left. hindsight is a beautiful thing.

  is this practice of keeping the letters just their practice? is there some real life legal way of getting these things back?

  i've been racking this around my brain for a minute now.

  you've got people puttin in an average of 10 hours a month, giving away countless publications, and still only converting one or two families every 20 years or so.

  this raises an obvious question, "if the door to door ministry doesn't bring in converts why do it?

  my gran always told me that fs was god's way of taking up our time in spiritual things so that we were too tired and had less time to do sins and stuff.

  so it didn't matter if you never found a soul in as it was a protection for yourself

  did anyone hear the one about the brother who visited an poor old lady who always gave him a gift of a bag of peanuts each time he called.

  the brother's conscience got the better of him and he told the old lady that she shouldn't buy him gifts when she had so little money.

  the old lady laughed and replied that they didn't cost her anything. since she lost her false teeth she could only suck the chocolate off her choc covered peanuts and she didn't like them to go to waste so he was welcome to them

  obituary says: "mr. matlock was never concerned about his destination, only about the trip.

  jim's concerns were put to rest as he passed very peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

  Mr. Matlock was a member of the Church Of Christ, apparently. Being such, he did believe he was destined for heaven.

  how can you presume everything that a person believes just from his church membership.

  it is evident from this site alone that membership of a religion does not mean that you adhere to all of it's tenets.

  WTS wealth/assets how to be shared?

  imagine a situation were the jw org is burst assunder with all the rank and file members leaving and then entering into a legal dispute with the wts over the assets issue: they want to claim most of it because they are the ones that really made it with their unpaid work and conributions in money or property.

  they want to have the wts and all its daughter corporations.

  on the other hand the wts the shareholders, the directors, will claim that the assets legally belong to them, they can boast of a legally protected ownership over them, they are registered in their name and they should keep everything.

  they must pay off all debts and obligations of the nonprofit and distribute all of its assets to another tax-exempt nonprofit corporation.

  this hyperthetical corp. would no doubt be a further off shoot from wts, i would guess.
