I thought those were moist raisins!
Sheeze!
i sent him off to school this morning and i didn't walk all the way down where i normally do because he's 8 and gets a tad embarrassed that his mom still walks down with him.
so for the most part, i sit on my steps at my appartment trying to listen if i hear him scream.
well, i just watched "without a trace" were a child missed her bus and she was kidnapped and at the end of the story they found her dead.
We raised our five kids in Alaska and our relatives in the lower 48 were always concerned about the kids getting eaten by wild animals walking to school and back (about half mile each way). I told them the chances of them being accosted by a brown bear or stray moose was a thousand times less likely than one of their kids being kidnapped by a human predator in Seattle or San Jose! What a crazy world!
Of course our kids went off to college pretty naive about such matters..

hello all who may read this, i am in the midst of writing a story, and a character who has appeared in the story is a jehovah's witness... i am attempting to gain a better understanding of the religion and its practitioners so as to present witnesses in a fair light... i am of no religious affiliation, but i assume that anything that a person believes is valid as long as they have put it through much consideration and thoughtfulness...
) of you are ex-witnesses, but i would like to know about what first attracted you to the religion to begin with... was it just passed down in your family, or did you make a conscious choice to become a witness?
if so, for what reasons?
Kent, I was born into the "religion" so it was not an "attraction" that had me being a witness. I can speculate, however, as to how many adults have become one by the "story line" that is practiced and dealt to the unsuspecting and gullible. The witnesses are really good at pointing out all the shortcomings of both religions and govenments. In doing this, they set the listener up for them being so insightful and spot on with their analysis. If one is the least bit discouraged about all the bad news in the world, they will welcome a perspecitve that confirms their dissattisfaction, then promises a more attractive option. They then claim to have "thee true" understanding of the bible, showing how humanity will go down in flames unless it adheres to the JW line. Those doing so will inherit eternal biological life! What a hook! Most people are not up to seriously studiing the bible from different perspectives, so they fall into the trap of literalism that the JWs weave and find themselves conjuring up visions of a perfect world as defined by JW jingoism. Satisfies the emotional elements of the mind, but only if the rational, logical side is lulled to sleep. I've seen very intelligent people in the JWs, but they have cultivated a cognitive dissonance that is so blinding that it is impossible for them to logically work their way out. So hypnotized by the "prize" and scared to re-examine what they have bought into, they will not allow their egos to be threatened by the thought that they have been bamboozled.
Just my 2 cents.

one of my dreams is to one day making to cairo egypt and see the great pyramids.
i want to see a lot of things in that area, as well as other parts of israel, and the middle east region.
i have been into history, for as long as i can remember.
I'm headed to Israel early next year for three weeks. Probably take a little detour to Turkey as well. Nothing to worry about. Then I used to live in Isreal so know where the rocks are in the stream.

after spending years with the witnesses, and the knowledge we have now, is there a religion that matches our biblical knowledge and experience?.
i think that we are way beyond any religion that exists, and that's why we stay out of religion today..
....and just what is your reknown "biblical knowledge"?
Inquiring minds want to know!

the dalai lama said that the basic creed of all religions comes down to this: love god/love each other.
what are some other creeds that you think all religions should adopt and why?

Okay...I'll play along!
As the East and the West are illumined by one sun, so all races, nations, and creeds shall be seen as the servants of the One God. The whole earth is one home, and all peoples, did they but know it, are bathed in the oneness of God's mercy. God created all. He gives sustenance to all. He guides and trains all under the shadow of his bounty. We must follow the example God Himself gives us, and do away with all disputations and quarrels.

a co-worker of mine jokingly brought up a good point that i had never thought of before.
she said that people are always concerned about whether mary was truly a "virgin" when she married joseph but what about joseph was he a "virgin" as well?
is there a "double-standard" for men in the bible?
Kewl! The pleasure's the SAME!??
