  What kind of FALSE PROPHET is Jehovah's official mouthpiece?

  the false prophet is not like the mistaken scientist or misguided philosopher---just a person in error.. the false prophet is either a deceiving imposter or a self-deceived victim of his own pathology.. any who would identify themselves as "prophet" is laying claim to a special agency of communication beyond the powers of mere mortal man.

  what credentials must such a person obtain?

  what makes them special above all others.

  Okay Terry! I'll be the naysayer! Your monograph sounds reasonable especially to ex JWs when you close your generalized argument with specifics ala JDubland! How many "false prophets" can you name that you've investigated besides the FDS? Who do you know that is claiming to be a "prophet" that you have sucessfully debunked? again other than the Fitfull and Dispicable Slavs? Too many unsubstantiated generalizations with only one concrete example to constitute an established pattern! carmel

  Tolerating Intolerance

  us jehovah's witness are reported to be least tolerant toward other beliefs and homosexuality.

  muslims score much better.. some on this board have argued we should stand up to intolerant religions.. how far should we go in tolerating the intolerance, without becoming intolerant ourselves?.

  or is intolerance part of the diversity that every modern civilzation needs?.

  Interesting that the Saudi's have called for an international conference with representatives of all the major religions (except Baha'is) to discuss developing tolerance and compassion for each other! They (Sunni's) could go only so far with their attempt to change world opinion toward the effects of "radical" Islam. Seems they want to be considered "moderate" so they can continue treating women and minority religions disrepectfully and have the world turn a blind eye! carmel

  thanks so much everyone for being so supportive.. i am having an increasingly difficult time giving my parts on the meetings, going in service, and shepherding.

  the wt study is so.....controlling?

  Welcome Bone, Backbiting is one of the most distructive activities we can engage in on a personal as well as collective level. Most of us have become desensitized to it and accept it as part of life, but it we get away from it whether intentionally or by default, it is a shock to our system to hear it again. After leaving the borg I married into a family that practiced very little denegration of others and when I went back to visit my JW family it was hard to be around the constant criticism of others. Even our electoral process of campaigning is a form of negative behavior that we think is "good for the country" when in fact it has devolved over the passed few decades into a divided nation that cannot heal its wounds using the same partisan system. Thank God the religion I have joined specifically forbids backbitting, electioneering and campaigningl. I am free to investigate reality for myself without engaging in derrogatory and condemnatory dialog. I hope you do well in your investigation of the truth about the "truth"! carmel

  Looking for some help about marriage

  hope this isnt a repost, couldnt find anything on the subject.. have a friend who is marrying a jw.

  he isn't a jw but she is (even though she doesnt really go or believe in it), her parents are strict jw's but wont goto their wedding cause of something about being unevenly yoked?

  now they both want her parents to go, but the parents tend to think they are not allowed to go.

  I'm not a biblical scholar, but it seems to me that the "unevenly yoked" comment comes from the Apostle Paul and not Christ. The Watchtower extrapolates tons of rules that go far beyond scripture and it only takes reference to one such for most JWs to jump to attention and not go against the congregation elder or elderette. Christ would not likely have layed such a burden. carmel

  What determined the path you took once you came to your senses?

  i have been reading a lot of posts over the past few weeks and noticed how some folks have taken the atheist/agnostic path, while others have replaced their zeal for the society into one of another faith.

  what led you to take the path you did?.

  for me, i just began doing a lot of deep thinking and trying to come to the most logical conclusion based on the facts that i had before me.. as a result, i have taken the agnostic path because it makes the most sense to me.

  What led to the path I took? Nearly two decades away from B org indoctrination and the dysfunctional people that I was surrounded by! During that time completed a degree in biological science, several minors, traveled to several foreign countries and experianced different cultures while all the time being a professed anti-religion agnostic. Only when I took a detached and disinterested review of religion was it possible to see a convergence of religion and science and that a different paradigm was possible that reconciled the hand waving prognosticators of dogma. I am at peace with my self and the world of reality. carmel

  after reading it i met a young man from las angeles who was from a jw family.

  he had left, gone to college and was a volunteer at the baha'i center where i was also serving.

  Years ago while living in Israel I ordered Crisis of Conscious as I had been on the old H20 site prior to coming to JWD. After reading it I met a young man from Las Angeles who was from a JW family. He had left, gone to college and was a volunteer at the Baha'i Center where I was also serving. He mentioned how he would like to get a copy for his family to read thinking it would help them to give up on the cult, so I gave him my copy. We met again four years ago and I asked him how it went with his family. He said they refused to read it so he kept it and still had it. Did I want it back? I told him not to bother as postage would be too much and I had no need for it. This past Sunday afternoon I received a call from an unknown number on my cell phone and loe and behold, it was my young friend who traced me down through mutual friends. He wanted to let me know that he had the opportunity to loan the book to a collegue who he worked with. That person was an inactive JW who not only read the book but shared it with his family and at last count it had made it to Utah where another family had read it. All told, thirteen family members and friends of the two families have left the JWs! I think I got my money's worth! Sometimes seeds take a long time to sprout! carmel
