  corollary to the often discussed religious shift from polytheism (including henotheism) to monotheism is a literary shift from mythology to theology.. mythology is essentially narrative.

  the gods and goddesses are good story characters.

  they act, and things happen to them.

  i ask myself which is more harmful slavish devotion to chemicals (which is openly discouraged) or slavish devotion to a system of beliefs which is most often encouraged .

  i understand the motivations behind doing something that defies common sense and fighting with your last bit of will to continue on a certain course no matter what your concious says.

  us recovering from addiction understand it completely.

  i have been inactive now for over a half a year, and i am just now realizing that there was not one thing i enjoyed about being a witness.

  i enjoyed my friends and association with witnesses, and still do.

  but i didn't enjoy one thing that we were supposed to do, not one.

  Many the folk that have assumed prayer was meant to replace communications as we know it between sentient beings or that cause and effect rules are at play when the physical and metaphysical worlds interface. IMHO prayer has subtle psychological affects that only manifest themselves over time with persistence and sincerity. Anything else is exceptional and limited. carmel

  for an answer to my mom on a chosen religion by christ.

  her argument was russel was the closet to the bible based on that.. i was too tired and involved with ancestrty stuff to listen.. sorry if this has been covered before.

  FYI the Baha'i Faith was inniated in 1844 and a central doctrin is that God is One, indivisable, does not incarnate, ingress or egress so was not and is not a trinatarian based religion. carmel

  Looking for advice from anyone out there with grad or advanced degrees

  hey, i'm finishing up my last year in undergrad school and am considering pursuing grad school.

  i am hoping to chat with individuals privately, who are attending grad school or have a graduate/advanced degrees for advice about the practicalities and expenses relating to attending grad school later in life (mid-30s +).. i'm not pursing medicine, law or business, so i'm concerned that the effort and expense of grad school may not be worth it.. thanks,.

  In my field, (fisheries) one advances much faster and more doors open with advanced degrees. A combination of experiance and scholarly accomplishment mean a lot. Also "connections"! carmel

  i say mine is english with an admixture of german (before the nazis ever existed, no need to go on about that) northern french and italian from venice.

  i look northern european and feel close to that part of the world with family tradition being roman catholic.

  I finally took my stand.

  i just missed two meetings for the first time in five years.. this past week i went "on vacation", housesitting for relatives nearby.

  i told my bookstudy overseer i'd be "away", even though i was only a twenty minute drive from the kingdom hall.

  i spent the entire week away from my insane family, away from the meetings and away from my "brothers and sisters".. it felt great.. coming home felt... not so great.. but the first brick in my fade has been laid.
