For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead...

Death is clearly referred to as a spiritual state. "Let the dead bury the dead" could not be understood if Jesus was not intending to demonstrate that those who chose not to believe were "dead" while still walking about! carmel

friendships are earned not bequethed. You have to extend yourself in genuine acts of concern, kindness, interest with enthusiasm and joy. Life will reward you with an instant reflection of new friends.... carmel

Questioning the question of God's existence
by DT ini don't know if there is a god.
if i knew for certain, this piece of knowledge could serve as a foundation for my world view.
some people are confident they know the answer (both theists and atheists) and their world view is based on this faith.

One of the common threads I've noticed on JWD is that we tend to get trapped into literalist thinking, have trouble with the definition of "GOD" in that regard and want to put the "creator" into a cause and effect model. That observation effects matter does not in and of itself mean that matter is either dependant upon observation to exist or that our feeble conception of quantum mechanics is sufficient to address conscousness/matter/God conundrum. Trying to define an "unknowable essense" is like the painting trying to fathom the mind of the artist that created the work of art. The tree beyond which we cannot go prevents us from ever fathoming the unfathomable. I quit lest I bore you. carmel

Own up time...
by Chalam inwell it looks like this site is a real melting pot, a broad spectrum of views and beliefs.
for sure there are many disaffected ex jws.
so in as few words as possible, preferably not more than one sentence, how would you describe yourself spiritually?

What is the official belief about DFed ones?
by sosad inmy understanding is that if armageddon comes when you are dfed, you are dead.
of course there is the standard jw caveat for that "only j can judge".
my dfed brother was committed early this morning to the psych ward.

What wonderful loving parents! I thought my parents were the only ones displaying such cold heartedness... not really, it's a common JW behavioral pattern. I hope you can help you brother get some professional help. No elder or non-loving congregation can do anything but drive him over the edge. carmel

There are certain re-occuring patterns in the world religions. If one takes a little time to familiarize themselves with them, he will see the patterns and likely lead them to seek a world view or cosmology adumbrated in one of the world's religions extant today that puts them all into context without having to decide whether one is "true" and the remainder all false. carmel

Abrahams wife Sarah was actually his half sister
by evergreen inreading through genesis has been an eyeopener for me.
i was surprised to read in chapter 20 that sarah was in fact abrahams half sister.
in verse 12 of this chapter, it mentions how abraham and sarah both had the same father, but different mothers.

Worse yet Adam and Eve weren't married, so we're all products of bastardization and incest. Cain had to have a wife that was a full blooded sister(s) or else he did the dirty deed with his mom! carmel of the "who takes this stuff literally" class?
