  I hope your current life makes you happy. There was a time when I was in your shoes. The great thing about us atheists is we are accountable for ourselves. We can do what we want, and any results are all our fault. I was a homeless drug addict 2 summers ago. But then I decidedI had enough of that and I changed. I do not regret one second of my past. You may stay in your current mentality for the rest of your life. You may not. Whatever you go through in your life, it will make you who you are.

  We have no greater purpose than any other animal.

  Humans MAKE UP greater purposes.

  You are looking at things from a humans viewpoint. You are putting yourself on a higher plane than other animals. You are forgetting relativety.

  Can you PROVE that dogs do not have a greater purpose? This is where it gets tricky. I am not saying can you prove that dogs dont have a greater purpose in relation to our greater purpose and our thought processes. I am saying according to a dogs thoughts and feelings can you prove they dont have a greater purpose.

  If you cannot prove it then its a possibility.

  Auldsoul,

  Humans are more capable of doing some things more than other animals. So a human has more intellect than a dog. So a dog has more than a worm. So does the dog have a greater purpose because its smarter than a worm? Its all relative.

  We are very capable of doing many things. But if we had to live in the manner a worm lives, we would fail miserably. We are no better than any other animal.

  We are all dogs, we are all gods, we are all animals.

  As Tet said, we all eat, sleep, shit, screw, etc.

  If you think you are any better that makes you self-centered and egoistic.

  Very interesting jgnat. 2 and a half years ago I was in your sons shoes. I had been a heroin addict for 4 years. I had done jailtime. The summer of 2003 I was homeless and a good day for me was one when I found donuts wrapped in plastic in a dumpster behind a bakery.

  I was an atheist then and still am. I realized that my life sucked. If I were religious, I could have said to myself just keep going and heaven will come soon enough. As an athiest I decided this was my only life. If I wanted it to get better and enjoy every day for the rest of it it was up to me. I got clean and sober. Now I am married and have 3 wonderful kids. My heaven is right now. It couldnt get any better.

  I am an atheist. I believe that this is the only life we have, there is nothing more. I have no greater purpose. My purpose is here today and now. Someone recently told me that is a sad way to live.

  In life there are ups and downs. I hold myself accontable for all that I do. I dont look to a time when everything will be perfect, because to me perfection is relative and therefore impossible. This world is perfect now.

  Why do so many people need to have a greater purpose? Is it easier to have hope and faith that one day things will be better? Does it make it easier on the conscience? Is it easier than facing yourself and your life? Easier than holding yourself accountable?

  What is your reason?

  Do you care if DefD stays a JW or not?

  defd/derrick is a current-jw posting on this board.

  he's been on for quite some time now, maybe not a year, but awhile.

  many have tried to show him the many ways the watchtower doesn't live up to its claim of being god's organization, but he seems unflappable.. so where do you stand on him now?

  One of the big sayings is "by their fruits you will know them".

  In such a short period of time, Defd has accrued a massive 1600 posts, almost 6 posts per day average, on a forum dominated by "apostates", ex-jws, and other opponents of the WTS.

  Sounds like juicy fruits to me.

  I like to have Defd here defending the JW religion. His replies and the logic he applies to them show me just how undefendible the whole religion is. So I want him to stay a JW, I just hope he doesnt find a debate he can win.

  For evolutionists-Wild vs. Domestic dogs

  how long do you think it will or do you even think that speciation will occur between wild dogs(wolves, dingos, african wild dogs) and domestic dogs?

  assuming that they are left seperate and continue in thier enviroment i think that domestic dogs will devolve much like humans are now, and i would guess that the wild breeds will become a seperate species in the next few thousand years.

  any thoughts?

  Survival of the fittest is no longer the rule for humans. The strongest of the strong still prosper, but the weakest of the weak still reproduce. In that respect I mean we devolve, but I guess its still evolution just it doesnt go the same as survival of the fittest.

  someone with no knowledge of nature could semi-succesfully argue that lions could possibly eat straw.

  but what about crocs?

  how can someone argue that these reptiles will possibly be able to eat anything other than meat?
