I'm just boggled by the stories here! How sad and tragic for all concerned! :-( When I was a dub I never knew of the early Borg teachings about weird health ideas, but I did run into a few people whose bizzare beliefs left me wondering if they were alright upstairs. I didn't know they had gotten this nonsense from the early WTBTS crappola however, One guy I met through friends after my first husband died, was into the enema thing. "You know where you can shove that!" says I as I bolted for the exit, never to return. Imagine, this was supposed to turn me on I guess...interesting approach...what do you talk about after that information?.. I know there are several alternative health approaches out there. As an RN I've seen plenty of it among patients and have no objection to letting them believe what they want. But one tragic story interestingly enough concerned a JW woman I personally knew before I left that nutbar religion. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and took it upon herself to treat it with the weird ideas she got from some "alternative" pseudo-medical approach, refused all medical intervention and advice and died a horrible death, leaving behind a husband and two children. These people were the epitome of ignorant and both of them were obstructive and vicious to the nursing staff. So vicious in fact that they never got the same nurse twice because no one could take their abuse for long. I refused to be assigned to her for the obvious reason that I knew her, but mainly because of them being JWs. I have no time for them at any level. They almost without exception regard the entire medical world as a bunch of transfusion happy anti-christs. They ought to get over themselves, plenty of other religions have treatment restrictions too, and Jdubs are not the only people refusing blood tranfusions. I've seen people knowingly refuse any more medical treatments for certain conditions and go home to die. We do have that right to choose. That information regarding the early WTBTS "health" information was very enlightening..if I had known a whole lot more about that phoney baloney religion I doubt I would have joined it.

A drastic medical view
by Fatfreek inwhen mom and dad and i adopted watchtower teachings during the mid 50's, the most influential couple we knew were special pioneers by the names of raymond and doris bridgman.
they were truly fine people in many senses, a bit younger than my folks, and very charismatic.
the place was new bedford, massachusetts, u.s.a.. it wasn't long before you realized that the bridgmans ate differently than the rest of us.

JWs required to report medical information to elders
by Elsewhere inthere was an article, i believe in the awake!, that talks about a hypothetical medical worker who in a hypothetical situation comes to find out that a jw has accepted a medical procedure that is not accepted by the wts.
this hypothetical worker must decide where or not she will report the hypothetical violation to the elders.
does anyone recall where i can find this article?

I work in health care also and have come across a couple of incidents...one involved an old witness guy who had a blood disease that required a transfusion every so often as part of his medical tuneup. I was curious about the number of witness people who came to see him on his admission day as he was from a small town many miles from our hospital. They were apparently there to cheer him on in his refusal to have a transfusion. I overheard several of them giving him the ole dub song and dance about his bravery in keeping his integrity yadayada. As soon as visiting hours were over, his doctor poked his head into the nursing station gave us all the high sign, asked if the coast was clear in soandso's room and told this patient's nurse to have the unit of packed cells sent up ASAP. I asked the doctor about jw man and told him I thought he had refused the blood. The doctor just laughed."We go throgh this farce everytime Mr.X comes in for treatments...he refuses in front of his family and all the JWs they send over from the church then as soon as they are gone for the night we give him his transfusion. It's been going on for a couple of years." later I saw this man lying in bed with the blood dripping away while he watched TV. He didn't know I had been a dub and there was no way in hell I would have told anyone in the cult about this incident anyway even if I'd been an active member of the local hall! I've always been of the opinion that these things were between God and the person. I'm appalled that they believe their power to be so sacred that people have to report this stuff to them. I hope anyone this ever happens to will sue the snitch and the hospital involved because it's a crime to violate privacy laws.

It's been my experience that a lot of JW,s are dishonest. Since the whole religion is based on lies and deceit and because we were instructed to praise the "emperor's new clothes" it's not surprising we'd find glaring evidence of dishonesty in many witnesses we knew. I have many stories of lying, embezzlement and cover-ups.I stood in my spare bathroom cleaning the fixtures and overheard my jw husband and his building partner discuss how they were going to take a newly arrived witness family to the cleaners over building their new house on a rock bed that would not allow for proper septic drainage. His problem, not theirs. They didn't know I was hearing every word, never saw me. I left this sorry sack of s*** a few days later but I did try to contact this brother to no avail. He actually contacted me at my mom's place a couple of months later to tell me he was leaving the town and that the house they had built for his family was flooded with sewage from the faulty system. I urged him to sue them as I had overheard them planning this very scam, and would gladly come to court on his behalf..but he declined. He had actually called me to warn me that I was married to a very evil man and that he wanted me to know I had been right to leave. And let's not even talk about the PO's son who was involved in grand larceny not once but three times, and his daughter's being part of a wife swapping club in the congregation or what happened to all the good people who dared to complain to the Canadian Bethel about the recreational habits of these pigs. Let's not even talk about how women were procured for my husband to date and we were'nt even divorced. And please don't even think about the fact that much worse things were done with the full knowledge of the Canadian Watchtower headquarters .They even sent a hired gun to get rid of those who kept insisting that something be done about this crap!! Dishonesty? This cult is a sewer of dishonesty.

Women are not fitted to carry a drum - Awake! 12/22/50, 27.
by Unfinished Mystery inwhat a downright moronic article!
it is amazing that a self-described religious magazine would use such a totally.
irrelevant piece of news to further its misogynistic agenda:.

The only "boobs" that get in the way are sexist men looking for proof that the female of the species is weak and inferior. What about the fact that male army cadets have fainted on the parade grounds many times in the past and will continue to do so during ceremonies that keep them standing in the sun for hours on end. Women in many religions are regarded as second class humans. Many ethnic societies have sayings and "proverbs" aimed at keeping the women chained to stoves, behind closed doors or on their backs fulfilling their duties as sex objects and baby makers. A doctor I worked with once said he knows for a fact that the pain of the average childbirth would kill the average man. In Africa most tribes have women totin' that barge an' liftin' that bale walking miles for water with a little kid hanging off the end of each breast, a load that would bring a forklift to it's knees on their heads, and picking up firewood along the way. When they get back to the village where are the men? In one article I read the village men were out in the rhubarb some where sitting around a pot of cow pucky and applying it to their hair AND tarting up their faces with cosmetic paints! They apparently go out once in a while, spear some creature, drag it back to the village to the women and get right back to the Jungle Day Spa for their beauty treatments! I rest my case.

Whats the spookiest thing that has happened to you?
by diamondblue1974 ini have had a few experiences which some could be dealt with rationally although even to this day the coincidences seem too convenient; .
mine was on new years day in 1994; i didnt celebrate new years at the same although i was about to start my fade that year; i was ill on new years eve anyway and i had been sleeping when i awoke at precisely 12.13. i couldnt get back to sleep but there was no obvious reason why.. my grandmother was in hospital but she was getting better when i had last spoken to her; i managed to back off to sleep but woke that following morning for some reason really concerned about my gran; just as i was coming downstairs the phone rang and my girlfriend answered it.
i said to her before she got to the phone that it would be my mother with bad news about my gran; i was right on both counts; it was my mum and my gran had died.....at 12.13 precisely..

I woke up from a dream one morning that had me in a sweat and overwhelmed that my brother living miles away and in good health had been killed. I brushed it off after I fully woke up, as just a nightmare but the feeling persisted. I called my brother's place only to be told by a family friend who was sitting with the kids that my brother had been taken to the hospital with severe chest pain early that morning. Turned out to be chest wall spasms from stress, not cardiac in origon, but everyone had been upset and he had thought he was going to die. I had a similar experience years later over a friend of mine I hadn't seen in a long time. The feeling of certainty of her death was overwhelming but I tried to ignore it. Later on that day I couldn't stand it so I called her. When she heard why I had called she went silent then told me I had just freaked her out because she had been so sick the night before she had made an appointment to see her doctor in the morning at the ER before he did his rounds and he told her to go home and pack a bag for a hospital stay. Turned out to have Lyme disease and got a hell of a lot sicker before she got well. I think some of us just have this ability to sense things we can't explain. I once told a man I had just met that he had cancer. And yes he did...of the bowel no less and because he got freaked out enough to go and have it checked out, it hadn't spread , he had a bowel resection and is alive to this day. I think these things happen to some people because we pay attention to the obscure, sense the shadows behind the everydayness of things. I'm a nurse also so the fine sheen of sweat and the slightly greyish skin tones of the man with cancer that had escaped the notice of his family was like a red flag to me. But it doesn't explain the things I knew when I was a kid that had my family staring at me like I was from another world! LOL Some of us are just like this...who knows why.

Georgia! Georgia! You rock girl! I don't think you need to feel bad at all !! Many Jdubs are some of the most socially and mentally challenged people on the planet. They are so "special" they are above good manners and feel free to ignore the feelings of others. You have made my day even if some poster here feels they have to give you a lecture for being real. The jw religion blows. So do the rank and file of their braindead minions. Even though I know some are good people and do the job out of the goodness of their hearts I know others who enjoy being vicious, enjoy slandering innocent ones and love to harrass those who leave the Borg. One of them came after me to sign a paper renouncing something or other...he was so stupid I remember him saying I was to renounce God's kingdom and I took great pleasure in explaining where he could file that paper. For years I used to wish one of that old gang would come to my door and start in on me just for the pleasure of shocking them with the stuff I know about them. You probably won't have to worry about them coming by again. A bunch of them once came to harrass my mom into going to the kingdom hall in which jurisdiction she lived...remember that moronic crap..you had to be in the proper jurisdiction or you were resisting Jehovah's spirit or something. I was in the next room, had just seen the light about that fake religion and had been through the mill with them and had to listen to these sisters she had never seen before tell her she had better stop grieving the holy spirit and get her ass to the proper hall. Well, I came around the corner like the wrath of God, frothing at the mouth and let those sour looking old hags have it. I did not scream or yell but I addressed them as if they were the lowest form of life I had ever seen and told them to get the hell out of my mother's apartmrnt and to never come back and to take their moronic BS and shove it. I felt REAL good about that, it's a good thing when you take a stand against the insanity.

You see the problem don't you, luv? You're waking up and THEY don't want you to wake up. It scares them. Thinking makes their brains hurt...they want you to take a blast of Borgjuice and just go the hell away. If you persist in waking up THEY will send a Bogeypatrol to your house to find out who you have been talking to and where you are getting your information from. You will be "marked" and soon put on notice that THEY won't tolerate your questions or concerns as you seem to them to be a (gasp) APOSTATE. The outside world does not exist for the average witness, they are so special they don't have to bother with it, and because they have THE TRUTH, they don't have to bother themselves with any other kind of truth. Especially truth about their dirty laundry, coverups, scandals and ugly secrets. So unless you want to be riding out of your kingdom hall on the end of a tar and feather rail, I think you ought to make up your mind about this whore of a religion and leave it before they chuck you out anyway!!
