From the GB perspective it is a win-win. The JW alienates family/relatives...leaving no outside support system.

why do jw's think that by behaving weridly they are giving a "good witness"?
by highdose inyou know when they refuse to attend family functions that invole anything religous, won't chink glasses, won't allow their children any freedom etc.
.
from their perspective they think they are setting "a fine example" and givng a "good witness" the outsiders just think they are bat crazy but the jw's just can't see it???

WTS successfully refutes bogus UN conspiracy theory/hoax
by trthskr inhttp://jehovahsjudgment.co.uk/watchtower-un-ngo/translatable.html.
there will be more to come folks, when i'm allowed to start another topic.
cheers.. to respond to the posting below (since i can't reply right now), it's because they weren't aware of the change until then..

JWFacts, I really like your website, and how it is very well documented.
The WTS successfully refutes their duplicity and hypocrisy in their being a NGO to the DPI for a decade only to those brainwashed members. To those who have been awakened, the WTS 'refutation' is the only bogus thing here.

WT Mar 15th 2012 - 144,000 no longer a literal number?
by dozy inreading idly through this magazine , i read the study article "rejoicing in our hope" which discusses the two "hopes" according to the wtbts ie heaven & earth.. a couple of points were of interest:.
(1) absolutely no mention at all of the 144,000 or rev 14. usually an article like this would be filled with references , but it isn't even mentioned.
it does discuss the "limited number" , but only in contrast with the "no man can number" great crowd.. (2) a much more laid back attitude towards the two hopes.

5. Make birthdays a conscience issue.
Will NEVER happen. It (as well as the banning of all holidays) is quite effective at making the members not fit it with outsiders, creating an uncomfortable situation as early as schoolage kids by making them different so they do not fit in. This decreases the likelihood of close relationships forming with outsiders- thus not having any support system outside of the org.
A few years back i had asked Ray Franz via email if a discussion ever came up on the governing body to make holidays/b-days a conscience matter and he said no, that issue never came up during his tenure on the body.

Why didn't Jehovah ??
by Phizzy inas jehovah said to the israelites "you are my witnesses" and was happy to let them get on with things without major interference by him, he must have broadly approved of what the nation was doing, until jesus came and changed things.. for hundreds of years before jesus the jw's (israelites) had decided that the name of god was too holy to pronounce.
had he been upset by this he would have sent a prophet to sort this out, but no, it continued as practice, for 200 years at least, and remained uncondemned by jesus.. if jehovah had really wanted his people to use his name, would not a prophet, at least would not his son, have said so ?.

The Quiet One:
You said: Unless you believe that YHWH and Jesus are the same, which Jw's do not, YHWH demands exclusive devotion.
Allow me to clarify a point. Unless Ucantnome said he believed YhWh and Jesus were the same person and I missed it...Christianity does not believe Jesus and YhWH to be the same person, but rather the same nature (the same as you and I share the same nature as humans). Ok, you guys can continue on....

Colossians 2:16 - Why not addressed when the subject of Holidays arises?
by sinis ini find it funny that the wts ignores colossians 2:16 with regards to "pagan" holidays, yet will allow such pagan rituals as a wedding ring, "white" wedding, neck ties, etc; all the while making half ass attempts at justifying wind chimes and how they are a conscience decision.
does not colossians 2:16 basically allow anything, and not to judge?
if you research the book of job it becomes appearent that job was celebrating his kids birthday, and yet he "walked with god"... what gives??

Even if the Wt was forced to address this they would probably say, as they do with Romans 14...that it is speaking specifically of the Jewish feasts. That begs the question then (assuming the Wt position is correct) of why the WT has taken that freedom away from its members that Paul gives.

Dylanbeam, if you heard enough of the cult nonsense why do you not run from the cult?
Your grandmother, and apparently you, are brainwashed by a mind-control cult...of which the governing body is equated in her mind (and yours) as God's direct and sole channel of truth. I pity you both.

They would continue teaching as is- live forever on earth...and call the number 144,000 symbolic but not give it much attention at all. If they gave it too much attention and a great number would believe they are of the 'heavenly hope' they would then need to address the question of whom the annointed would rule over- since the WT teaches the annointed rule from heaven over those of the earthly hope.

They may very well change the number to symbolic, while stressing the 'earthly hope'. The members follow what they are spoon-fed, so even this change would be glossed over as a minor change.

The Watchtower is NOT a false prophet
by The Quiet One inregarding what some have said here about the wt being a false prophet.. i would like to make my point regarding the wt not being a false prophet... so please, if you can be patient enough to read this, at least try to understand what i am getting at.. a false prophet is one who, according to deuteronomy, makes a false prediction of the future and claims that the prediction came from god, or in other words claiming that 'god has said he will do a certain thing at a certain time' etc.. for example, hypothetically speaking, if someone had claimed: "god will bring about the end of the world in 2010", they would have been proven to be a false prophet, obviously.
but, as an example, imagine a man who claimed the position of a prophet of god, (as moses did, because although he was not the type of prophet that predicted the future.. he was still a prophet or spokesman for god) and that he had publicised worldwide, according to his interpretation of a (for example) prophecy found in the book of isaiah, that the world would end in 2010.. and he had also stated that he was not saying that god will end the world in that year.. but only that there was biblical evidence that god might do so.
that would clearly have been a mistake.
