I threw out most of the books and magazine I had laying around long ago. I still have some older bound volumes...not sure how useful they will ever be because I'm not much of scholar and would probably never look anything up. I also have a cross and crown pin that belonged to my great grandfather who was a JW. No reason to keep it really, except for the family connection. This thread made me want to go upstairs and see what I have left and what I should get rid of.

What my mother should have done.
by LovelyEunie inthis is somewhat of a rant but every time i think of it it just pisses me off.. .
i never understood why my mom would never switch to another hall or whatever when she knew how i was treated by the people who were supposedly the 'best' association around.
my older sister also, because neither of us really had any jw friends because for whatever reason i guess we were pegged as the baddies because our dad wasn't witness (still isn't) and my mother stayed sick a lot so she wasn't able to do half of whatever was required.. .

LovelyEunie,
I was that parent. Its not that you don't love your kids, its that you are brainwashed into thinking that its all persecution from Satan trying to push you away from Jehovah and its your duty to accept, persevere and forgive those in the congregation that do you wrong. I didn't wake up until my oldest son died in a motorcycle accident and I saw how hollow the Watchtower was....and its not that there weren't some very kind sisters and brothers, its just that the counsel from some of the elders just wasn't comforting. Or maybe the shock made me look at things with clearer eyes.
I hope you can learn to forgive your mother.

I don't have cable any more, so there are some shows that I cannot see. I thought your review sounded very balanced, Tech49. There are plenty of things to criticize about Jehovah's Witnesses and the WTBTS, its not necessary to trump things up for more drama.

I want to chime in here too. When I first joined this site, I was on here everyday. It was a huge help in working through remaining issues I was having after walking away from the JWs. In recent years, I've taken some long breaks from visiting, but its good to know the board is still here.
Thanks!

Bethel experiences sound like a prison sentence. Why even go?
by goingthruthemotions inwhen i read about bethel experiences my mind go to the show locked up raw!.
why would someone subject themselves to this without commeting a crime.. the wife and i went to see bethel in broklyn a few years ago and it was unlike anything i expected.
very cold.. went the bosert hotel and was talking to a brother there and asked how long he had been there, he said 25 years...i asked how old he was.

When my son was offered the opportunity to tour Bethel with some brothers from our KH, I jumped at the chance. He was a teenager and had done an about face from a sweet, obedient kid to being very rebellious. I thought if he just saw wonderful Bethel (not that I'd ever been there), he'd change his ways and work to be able to qualify to go there. What the tour did was scare him to death and made his rebellion worse than ever. Guess I should have gone first before sending him there...better yet, I should have never gotten involved with JWs in the first place.

Are sad to see your CO go?
by Quarterback inwe are supposed to have a new co effective this september.
what do you think about the guy that left?.

In my 20 years as a JW, there was only one CO that I ever missed when he moved on to the next congregation in the circuit. He and his wife were good people; realistic, down to earth, cognizant of the difficulties of find work and keeping it, truly loving and spiritual. It seems that people like that are the minority in the Society...at all levels.

There is a young lady at one of my jobs who always wears yoga pants to work. She's got the body for them, but I think its a risk. Several months ago, there was a creepy customer who, after making his purchases, just stood in back of her while she checked out other customers and stared at her rear end. The guys she was ringing up after Mr. Creepy noticed him staring at her and confronted Mr. Creepy, which I thought was rather gallant of them. Shouting ensued and threats of "taking it outside" and such.
I think Mr. Creepy was scared away, which is a good thing. If he hadn't been, I would have suggested that someone escort her to the parking lot when she left work.
Now, this might have happened even if she had worn more loose fitting pants because she is an attractive girl, but you've got to wonder. I think that if I was cute and young and had a good figure, I would probably not feel comfortable exchanging yoga pants for my jeans.

You ever notice how personalities change when CO comes around?
by dugout inisn't it sickning when normaly people in the cong don't even speak to you.
but when the co visits comes they want to shake your hand and even (cringe) hug you?
then as soon as he leaves back to normal.

We had a CO once in the Midwest who was totally cringe worthy. The JWs in that congregation used to fawn all over him and his wife too. All their talk about not glorifying men went right out the window as they lined up to talk to those people and suck up to them before and after meetings. The "friends" used to exclaim loudly over his talks, which I usually found disgusting (he would graphically describe someone cutting their leg off with an ax or some sex act or how he and his wife would put on a fictitous skit at McDonalds trying to draw people into discussion. I guess its okay to lie in that case). After his first visit, I would usually only go to one of the meetings.
Later, after i'd moved to the Northeast, he was assigned out here. I didn't go to the KH the entire time he was visiting. He was awful.

Not on jw.org - comments regarding bad Jehovah's Witness employees
by jwfacts ini used to be very impressed with convention experiences regarding how worldly employers would hire jws because they were known as the most honest workers.
i was too indoctrinated to realise these were selective experiences, and there are plenty of experiences of jws being dishonest in the workforce.
i have received a couple recently by email.. i have cut quite a bit out of the following email i received so that the person and company cannot be indentified, but you will get the message.. .

LongHairGal:
You said: "I would have had to come and go by myself and hardly bother with anybody..."
There was a point in time, when I was disillusioned but still thought the JW's were Jehovah's Organization, that I tried to think of a way I could function inside the religion without bowing to the peer pressure and guilt that they were constantly trying to pile on all those who were susceptible to that kind of thing (which I was). I thought that if I could distance myself and act confidently about my less than whole-hearted participation, I could stay a JW.
It seemed to me that the happiest JWs were those who kept to themselves for the most part, only getting involved in service or as elders to a certain point. They were careful not to let others too close (which would invite criticism)...and they did what they wanted to do when they wanted to do it. I'm not talking about big sins, but watching what television shows or movies (mostly rented, because they wouldn't want to be seen going to something with an R rating or even PG), taking vacations where and when they wanted...stuff like that. If they planned to go out in service while on vacation, they would make a real point of announcing it so that all woulde know what exemplary dubs they were. They would be very creative in counting their time, something that I was too stupid to figure out until I'd been in for almost 20 years. I think many of them would count time from when they got in their cars in the morning until they left the KH, and return visits were anybody that that spoken to about Jehovah before or even just a brief mention of the convention or something.
In the end, I couldn't do it. It didn't feel honest and I figured that if there really was a God, he'd know what I was doing....so I dropped out. Best decision I ever made.

I never paid much attention to who was part of the GB. Not sure it makes much difference to the average dub, to be honest.
