When a friend of mine first brought this up, it didn't impact me all that much. I didn't really understand what she was saying and sort of dismissed it...until I started researching. There was something about seeing the WTS teachings over the years right next to the information from the U.N. and then the FDS's lamo justification for joining the wild beast that was very shocking to me. Now I can see that it's just another nail in the coffin they've been building for themselves.

I agree that some do and some don't. Burn-out has to facter into the equation. They're just men, with an imperfect set of guidelines to follow, who are directed to do things by the WTS that have to sear their conscience and heart. Others seem to never have had much love, only a strict sense of how everybody should be (like them) and a contempt for those weaklings who can't cut the mustard.
It's my feeling that all JW's have too much that is required...that they are forced together so much and that so much time is spent on meetings, service, study, family study, with everybody being exhorted to watch/spy on each other, that I think the love kind of gets sucked right out...elders (who have even more duties....I mean, priviledges) and regular grunts alike.
I've heard that Pioneers can get very bitter about the fact that they are spending so much time in service, sometimes working part-time jobs that leave them with nothing extra and even in debt. They look at the rest of the congregation as a bunch of slackers. Hard to love people that you think are lazy, selfish and hedonistic.

Life Not Easy for JW's & Messianic Jews in Israel
by Kenneson inthe jerusalem post carries an interesting article on jw's and messianic jews entitled "a matter of faith.
"the jehovah's witnesses are about to hold a metting on rehov lincoln in tel aviv.
yad l'achim, the anti-missionary haredi organization, is waiting for them..." .

I agree that it goes too far...and it's pointless anyway. I think the more opposition you have (if you really believe and aren't a marginal JW), the more you want to demonstrate your faith. Stuff like this just proves to the devout JW that they are on the right track and Satan is stepping up the pressure.

Who left the JW's after getting on the internet?
by toladest invitta's thread above got me wondering.
how many here still believed the "witnesses" to have the truth until they came to sites like this?
how many actually came here to defend the jw's and ended up leaving?

I only started looking at these aposta-sites about two weeks ago and am stunned at how quickly I accepted that JW's don't have the truth. I haven't been active or gone to meetings in about three years, but I still thought that maybe I'd go back one day. Not any more.

Personality Wise----Are You THAT Much Different Since Leaving The "Truth"?
by minimus ini believe that most people are what they are----whether they were jws or are exes.
for example, if you were a basically happy go lucky person in the hall, you probably have that same nature now.
conversely, if you were accused of always complaining and being miserable then, you probably still bitch and moan now.

I'm pretty much still the same person...just a lot less uptight and judgemental.

Bookstudy in my home
by JAVA inwe host a discussion group in our home called the dayton salon.
our dogma is: food, wine, fellowship, and discussion.
we meet once a month and folks arrive with food to share, they fellowship in and out of the kitchen before settling down to discuss a topic (picked a month ago) in the den (we call the salon).

That sounds great!
A very sweet elder and his wife, who hosted a bookstudy in their home back about 15 years ago, tried to liven things up by having refreshments after the study. It was rather nice...for as long as it lasted. As soon as the CO found out, that was it. I still don't understand why it was so wrong to have a cup of coffee or some lemonade and a cookie after the bible study and actually enjoy one another's company for a couple of minutes.

My son stopped participating totally when he was about 18, but he was never baptized so perhaps that doesn't count.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses Have The Reputation THEY Think They Have?
by minimus inwitnesses believe they are special.
the publications give many examples of how wonderful a witness was viewed upon by a "worldly" person.
kms tell of how so many praise the witnesses for being so "different".....what would you say is the real way people view jws??

The JW's are always spouting off about their great reputation for being honest, truthful, and trustworthy in business. I certainly know some who are, but there are an equal number who are as bad or worse than the "worldly" ones they so despise.
I worked for an elder once who was a master at deception and double speak. He was so egotistical and convinced of his own superiority that nobody and nothing could make a dent. An example of his integrity and honesty was to have me write out checks to vendors, put them in stamped envelopes and give them to him to take to the post office. I soon found out that he'd put them in a designated spot on his credenza and this allowed him to tell people who called looking for payment that it was in the "mail". He didn't say U.S. Mail, right? He wasn't a liar. Nooooo. Only one of many fudges he'd pull. He just about single-handedly destroyed whatever positive reputation JW's had in that town. ...and he's not the only one I've run into that ran his business like that.

I think that's so true, blondie.
From what I've been reading, they were off in left field from the beginning. I've been having to take a very hard look at myself lately, at what caused me to surrender my will and stop thinking for myself. It's not pretty.
I can't really get angry at the dubs when with a little study I should have been able to see through their claims to be God's organization. Just having researched C.T.Russell and "Judge" Rutherford's history should have opened my eyes. It never even occurred to me to go to the library and check it out. It's not as though I was raised a JW and had to overcome indoctrination since childhood. I was an adult when I made this decision. Why? WTF is wrong with me?

I still have trouble with critical thinking when looking at a Watchtower. My mind kind of goes numb and I feel like I'm falling backwards into a vat of oatmeal. I need all the lessons in learning how to reason my way out of the glop that I can get. Thanks.
