[why this is paradise is beyound me - these anaimals smell].. so if we assume an intelligent creator, why would he create large meat eating preditors if he really ment them to eat grass?

In one of the Wizard of Oz books (can't remember which one now..not the first), Dorothy was shipwrecked in a fairyland that had trees with boxed lunches and dinner pails growing on them. Now, that would be paradise...no cooking or preparing meals if you didn't want to!

I remember having this discussion with the elder I worked for way back when. There were some at our KH who would discuss those scriptures (and the lovely drawings in the literature) about preditory animals suddenly eating straw and frolicking with former prey and wouldn't that extend to the human family, yadayada reasonable to assume blahblah humans become vegitarian in the new system. He didn't like that idea at all. His face got all red and he literally pouted as he reminded me of the scripture in Isaiah 25:6 - 8 about the table Jehovah would prepare with wine and fat things with "marrow". He did not want to think that paradise might be meatless. It was kind of fun yanking his chain now and then.
It's hard to pick just one. There's three biggies:
1) Marrying when I was 20 - No, I wasn't a dub; it was sheer stupidity on all my own.
2) Being intellectually lazy when JW's came to my door. Should have done some independant research on their history and their claims.
3) Thinking it was "holy spirit" that was directing me to move east to work in my parents' business. Holy crap, what an incredibly stupid move that was!
at the end of this month i will get to wear my red hat!
for now i'm still a pink hatter.

i was looking at the long list of jw "don'ts" and "can'ts" someone posted here and i was reminded of a talk at the service meeting an elder gave once.
it was from one of the most elementary of publications (aren't they all???
) and the elder on the platform said, "i'll speak slowly for the sisters.
I would have sat there fuming silently...and probably excused the brother due to senility. I'm a marshmallow. Ugh.
most of you are ex-dubs, so what if world events proved that the jw's were right.
for instance, governments turning on religion, matthew 24th chapt events really increasing at an alarming rate, enough to make you think: " maybe they were right?
" if that happened, and the wts left the "door on the ark", so to speak, open for a little while, would you go back to the wts?
Boy, if they were right, wouldn't it be the first time EVER? LOL If that ever does happen, I'll assume it was a lucky guess. It would not move me to think they had "The Truth" and to run scurrying back to the fold.
Just reading the list of failed world-end dates, the many flip flops on doctrine, and looking over Judge Rutherford's biography was enough to convince me in short order that this is not and never has been God's organization.
some things confuse me here.
i am in the same position as many where i don't agree with so much the society says and feel stuck dragging myself to the meetings and then feel incredible guilt because the study for the day says it is wrong to have any doubts "even in private".

It all takes a bit of getting used to, but this is a really cool place. I've come to enjoy the diversity of ideas, beliefs, and opinions. This board can be enjoyable, enlightening, puzzling, educational, silly, sometimes even annoying or uncomfortable...but always interesting. If there's something that doesn't sit well, you can either choose to weigh-in on the discussion or ignore it.

Your experience, with the elders being completely unconcerned about you and your first wife's difficulties, is so sad. Isn't that just what they are there for? You and your family even asked for assistance and they couldn't be bothered. I know congregations vary, but you hear so much about elders poking their noses into personal situations without invitation and yet, when they are just about begged for help, they ignore it. Unbelievable....but, as you say, they did you a favor. It's good to be free!

Ewwww! Sorry, the idea of eating bugs grosses me out. I'd like to think that if I was starving I could overcome my disgust, but who knows.
LOL on the mudbugs. I'm not even good about eating whole lobster. I've only done it once, but I found it messy and lost my appetite pretty quickly. Didn't like that I got one with roe either. ick. Not a good New Englander in this respect at all.
