I have no family in, so I don't have to watch them struggling with too many assignments and being beaten down at meetings every week. I have my problems, but I'm much happier without the Jehovah's Witness B.S. I noticed that those who were happiest in the congregations I attended were ones who had set their boundries, ignored a lot of the junk in the magazines and did just enough to keep the elders off of their backs. I'm not sure why they bothered, other than wanting to stay on good terms with their family members who were also JWs, but it really made an impression on me as I sat there in the meetings, feeling tired to death from working 8 to 10 hours all day, having had to make dinner as soon as I walked in the door at night and then race to get dressed and get to the meetings, where we all felt berated and chastized by whatever talk or study was on tap for the evening. Suffering for a religion that gives nothing in return eventually wears you out and unless you enjoy that suffering, you do eventually figure out that its not worth it.

JW's are so hot on their views being respected but they do not respect anyone elses!
by highdose injw's face a tide of "no"s and "not interested"s everytime they go banging on the doors, surely it would have occurred to them by now that the vast majority of the public don't want to know and don't want them at their doors.
but do they acknowledge or listen to this?
regardless of wether they have priviously been told not to call or not still they come.. they claim that its because jesus has comanded them to do so.

Back when I was a JW, I knew a few...a very few...JWs who showed respect for other people's beliefs. It takes a level of maturity that most witnesses don't have and don't even care to acquire. I think those people were that way because it was their innate personality despite the JW foolishness. Most witnesses are self-important fools who have convinced themselves that they don't have to follow normal rules of behavior because they are so special. Kind of like spoiled children.

Why are Pantsuits not appropriate according to The Watchtower?
by VM44 inwhy do the jws consider pansuits worm by women not appropriate attire?.
pantsuits are considered appropriate attire in the conservative business world.. secretary of state hilary clinton wears pantsuits quite often.. would pantsuits be considered appropriate for a visit to bethel?
if someone showed up at bethel wearing them, would be be asked to leave?.

The WTS has a tough time with this as the bible can't really address current fashions....and fashions change all the time. I think they settle for what was considered appropriate back in the 1960s based on what Donna Reed and June Cleaver wore on The Donna Reed Show and Leave it To Beaver.

Is this weird? JW FB comments
by serenitynow! inparadise-related greetings and meetup plans.
on a couple of jw fb sites, people often say things like "i'll see you in paradise," or "i'm going to travel and meet all of you guys in paradise and hang out with your lions.
" and on the jw news, library, etc.

I guess traveling around to meet up with FB friends in the new system is the current dream of JWs. Back in my day, I can remember being rather horrified by the sisters out in service talking about which house they'd like to take over when the current worldly homeowners are killed at Armageddon. Of course, that was before Facebook, even before most people had access to the internet.
What's funny about this is that I thought there was still a certain amount of cautioning against internet usage for recreational purposes by the WTS. I guess they can't fight effectively against everything the world has to offer.

I agree with Nathan. Watch your back and plan for the worst. JWs are masters at rationalizing bad behavior. Some act with integrity, but there are many who won't. Good luck!

I knew long time JWs who celebrated birthdays, mothers day and fathers day...but called it something else or refused to call it anything but still gave gifts or went out to dinner. One sister, who later became a rabid pioneer, used to have other single sisters (with or without kids) over for a traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day because she got a free turkey every year from some charity (which she never refused) and because we had to eat anyway. I guess if we didn't say "Happy Thanksgiving" it was okay. Plus, we'd all be sure not to miss the important Thursday night meeting due to getting together for dinner, so that was alright then.
That same Pioneer sister would have a substitute Christmas for her kids on the first snowfall of the year and call it Snowflake Day. Better than Christmas because it was without all the terrible pagan pagentry and you didn't have it on a set day. Of course, when we had a talk about making substitute holidays for our kids, she ceased doing it. Heaven forbid you do anything fun as a JW. If something was too much fun, they had to find a reason to get rid of it. Very Puritan of them.

Job suffering A ridiculous story.
by jam injob a man blameless and upright, one who feared god, and turn away from evil.
the fact that he is just and suffering breaks the logic relating god, evil, and the suffering of israel.
for ancient israel the logic of suffering then they must have sinned.

This is one of the reasons I no longer believe that the bible is a book inspired by a supreme being. It contradicts itself and is written in language so obsure and mystical, that you can attribute just about anything you want to it.

Has there been any recent counsel or articles advising JW's to avoid associating with 'inactives'?
by nicolaou ini ask because over the last few weeks i've noticed a marked 'cooling off' from my brother and sisters.
i don't think i'm being paranoid - has anything specific been printed lately?
bloody faith!.

This stuff comes and goes in waves. One year inactive ones are "diseased" and not to be associated with, a couple years later there will be talk of getting them back to the KH and they will be issued invites to stuff. Then, a couple years later, they'll dig up all the "diseased" BS again. If you look to Jehovah's Witnesses to define Jehovah, you would think he was schizophrenic.

..People you Expect to Die.....While Watching them on TV..
by OUTLAW inadam richman... host of..hit tv show... .

I've watched Man vs Food too...and I'm not sure why. He tortures himself with super spicey food when he's not just eating way too much. Some of those episodes where he eats stuff that's so hot its painful, make you really scratch your head. Why does he do that? He sits there sweating, face on fire, sauce smeared all over his face and hands, looking like he's going to faint. Its awful. There was one show where after he ate whatever it was...I can't remember now...he stood in the kitchen trying to drink milk and not upchuck it. I didn't tune in again for weeks after that one.
Charlie Sheen is another one....although he doesn't have a tv show now, so if his death were filmed it would probably end up on YouTube.

I was already past when I became a JW so it never came up. I was only 28, but life had already worn me out.
