Now located in Tuxedo Park, N.Y., the JWs World Headquarters occupied a building with a large Watchtower sign in Brooklyn.
“Litigation by the Zalkin Law Firm has exposed a database maintained by the JW containing information about known child molesters within the organization that dates back decades,” according to a news release from the law firm. “The JWs have defied numerous court orders compelling them to produce this database in several of the lawsuits.” -

Watchtower appeals in Montana.
by lastmanstanding ini won’t steal barb’s thunder, but has anyone had a chance to peruse the appeal that watchtower launched yesterday?.
watchtower’s main argument is that stuff was said in confidence with confidentiality surrounding that confidence and they are confident that clergy confidentiality which is in confidence is confidential.. in short, it ‘was a secret and should stay a secret.’.
omg.. and watchtower claims that this verdict “violates the constitution of the usa”.. i wish the jury could tack on another $50m and include watchtower lawyers are to be hanged.. i just had to say something.

Proposed California Bill Mandates Priests Report Sexual Abuse Heard in Confession
POSTED 9:37 PM, APRIL 3, 2019, BY JOE KHALIL, UPDATED AT 09:35PM, APRIL 3, 2019
SACRAMENTO -- California lawmakers are hoping to reverse hundreds of years of tradition in the Catholic church and mandate that priests who hear of child sexual abuses in confession report it to law enforcement.
"The victims are told to be quiet, abusers are let go, free. Nothing happens to them and the cycle repeats and repeats," said Kameron Torres.
It was just two years ago Torres, as he puts it, woke up to the brainwashing of being a Jehovah's Witness. He says at 6 years old he was sexually abused by a person of authority within the church and that nothing was done about it.
"You go to meetup groups, that’s what happened to me, and I started hearing the same stories," Torres told FOX40. "I realized very quickly it wasn't just me."
Torres says abuses happen in many religious denominations and too often the abuser gets away with it. He’s now helping lawmakers push Senate Bill 360 to end the silence around abuse.
"SB 360 requires clergy to report suspected child abuse or neglect," said Sen. Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo.
The question many have now is does the bill go too far?

Senate Bill 360 requires Clergy to Report Child Abuse and Neglect Under Any Circumstancess. Although current law includes clergy members in the list of 46 professionals to report, the law also exempts clergy from such reporting if they gain their knowledge or suspicion of the crimes during “a penitential communication.”
SB 360 would remove that exemption.
SB 360 is NOT TARGETING JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES OR THE WATCHTOWER ORGANIZATION PER SE. SB 360 is targeting ALL religions.

D.C. attorney general proposes making clergy ‘mandated reporters’ of abuse
January 23D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine is proposing legislation to add clergy to the list of “mandatory reporters” who must tell authorities about suspected child abuse or neglect, the latest fallout from a growing clergy sexual-abuse scandal in the Catholic Church.
If the bill is approved by the D.C. Council and Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D), pastors, rabbis and other clergy would be required to report suspected abuse to police or to the Child and Family Services Agency, as well as the leaders and boards of directors of their own religious institutions.
Racine’s bill also would increase penalties for failing to report abuse and require all mandatory reporters — clergy, teachers, health-care workers and others — to attend training on their responsibilities under the law.
Mandatory reporters would face fines of as much as $2,500 and 180 days in jail upon the first failure to report. Survivor advocates have said training and penalties are an important part of making such requirements effective.

NY Child Victims Act: What new law means for sex abusers, victims
By Julie McMahon | Posted January 28, 2019 at 06:00 AMDecade-long battleSurvivors of child sexual assault will earn a victory today as legislators move to extend New York’s statute of limitations to give child sex abuse victims more time to sue and pursue criminal charges.
Advocates have been working to advance the Child Victims Act over opposition from groups including the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts of America.
Bills passed in the Democrat-controlled Assembly the last two years, but the Senate refused to hold a vote. As Democrats took control of the Senate this year, advocates were optimistic the bill would finally pass.
Democrats have moved quickly in January to pass multiple reforms. The bill’s sponsors, Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal and Sen. Brad Hoylman, both Democrats from Manhattan, announced last week it will be up for a vote in both houses today.
