i have been df'd for over 3 years (for the third time... you know it's the charm).
i have an 8 year old who is being taught by my parents the same things that i was taught, including how we can't celebrate birthdays.
i have been doing a little research on the origin of worldly customs, such as weddings and birthdays only to find that there are many wedding customs that witnesses have adopted that have pegan origins.
We always used to celebrate all holidays and husband loved them for the most part. (he has been studying with jw for about two years soon to be baptized). Now, however, he will not participate, which only make me go way overboard for holidays.
The reason he gives is so lame. Pharoh killed someone on his birthday. Well, he also let someone else live on that day! Story in Job most certainly sounds like they were celebrating b-days. As for the fact that Job 'then' went and prayed for his kids, not because they partied too much on the b-days, but, 'as was the custom'. As for John the Baptist getting beheaded on a birthday,well, all I can say is name a day in history in which something bad did not happen. Was the day evil or were the people evil? If one believes in God, are not all days His?
Just more control and isolation techniques by the WT.

Why don't we write and ask for a follow up story? Or a new investigation of cover up by the WT. I believe the amount of pedophiles per population compared to the Catholic scandal would make the Catholic scandal look like a drop in the bucket. Just a thought. i received an sms last night from ozzie himself saying on saturday he collapsed and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital.. he is being operated on again this morning (wednesday 29/6/05 australia time).
as usual with the particular operation he is having there are serious risks.
i ask his friends to send anything positive his way today.

the fact that i partially saw a little sheet of his that did in fact have canned responses to a householders questions & comments makes me think he just considers these suggestions.

How can he actually see a sheet of paper with these 'suggestions' and not think others would consider these to be canned responses is beyond me. I know, that's why it's a cult. i was driving in my brothers car with him about 5 years ago (hes now an elder), we were in the middle of a row when he turned to me and told me that when i die at armageddon that i dont need to worry because he said he will look after my kids, this upset me to the point that i made him stop the car and i got out.
a friend of mine (who is a jw) i spoke to about it told me that he was just trying to be cruel and then went on to tell me that any children who are a part of a witness family would die at armageddon.
i would like to know if anyone knows if this true ?
Do you mean any children who are or are not jw will die? I thought everyone who isn't jw will be 'poofed' out of existence, and even the jw's who didn't 'do enough' may be exterminated as well. Anyone still going to the hell know the current teaching? carla
often, more so then not, my former witness friends have the habit of wondering why more people do not hear or know about things witnesses do in modern history.
yet in time, from being on boards like this one and from knowing far more people that are not witnesses, then ones that are or were.
the crazy acts of the early 1900's that gained public attention, were replaced with a more invisable conformed organization that really does very little to be noticed.
From a non jw perspective, I too find most people know nothing about jw's. As for outsiders thinking that jw's do not believe in Jesus, here's why- some people do know that jw's believe that Michael and Jesus are one and the same. Therefore in the eyes of outsiders jw's do not believe in the Jesus of the Bible. I would agree that there are enough crazy things that go on in jw land without having to make anything up about them. Their own literature is their own worse enemy. carla

i'm really nervous and scared right now.
i just brought my boy kitty to the emergency care clinic with a blocked urinary tract.. i noticed something was wrong last night when i came home and his sister greeted me at the front door (he is always the first one to greet me).
i went into my bathroom and saw that one of them had pooped on the floor - something neither of them had ever done before.
My male cat has had that problem a number of times. He's about 15 now. They perform sort of a Roto-Rooter type of procedure. Sorry, guys but that's the way it works. Husband usually got pretty squeemish at that. Anyway from now on make sure his food is low ph. It doesn't have to be the most expensive either. I can always tell when it is coming on, he either leaves little blood spots around, or hopefully before that happens, pick him up close to his back legs but still under his stomach and if it is starting he will surely let you know! If he needs to go to the vet then at least it won't be an emergency situation and an emergency bill. Good luck, let us know how he is. carla
for years and years i have been able to wake up in the middle of a dream, and go back to it right where i left off.
if its a good one, that i didnt want to leave, i think about it, fall back asleep, and im back in!
or, like the other night, i was mad at my bf in my dream.
My mom & daughter can change their dreams while they are dreaming. They don't need to wake up at all. Came in handy when daughter was little, I would tell her to make friends with the monster (or whatever) and she would the next time! They both say if they don't like the way the dream is going they just change it, mid-dream. I find that amazing. The other daughter used to talk about 'changing the channel', like a tv. Not sure if she still has that ability. carla
