  non US folks and pumpkin pie

  sorry, i didn't know how to classify this- on some cooking boards i am on i came across how some do not understand pumpkin pie at all, particularly down under.

  there was a whole thread about picking up libby's pumpkin pie filling (and the expense) and then came the subject of vegemite which does not sound good to me but can't say as i have never had it.

  with all the sugar and spices what is not to like about it?

  (ps- you know you can use any of the yellow/orange squashes in place of actual pumpkin)

  yesterday i got a call from the my seven year old sons school.

  they told me he was quite sick and should take him home.

  of course i am the contact because she makes no effort know where her phone is or if it is even charged.

  You could also write NY and ask them why something like this even occurred. Ask in all earnestness why a jw mother would have to be with another man and group of people instead of taking care of her own child while the head of the house is doing his job and providing for family? Tell them you are trying to explain it to your work but cannot find a sensible reason, can they provide you with one so can keep your job?

  Letters do make it back to the cong, I know because I have written them and a certain person had to write me an apology and I heard her name was mud for awhile.

  what are some of the red flags that should alert people to the fact that jehovah's witnesses are a high control and damaging religion?.

  one that comes to mind is.

  1. one cannot leave jehovah's witnesses with one's reputation intact.

  When they tell you to lie to your wife and sneak out of the house so she won't know you are studying with them because she thinks they are a dangerous cult and is an 'opposer' and it is causing severe marital problems.

  When you choose to spend nearly all your time trying to win favor with the cong instead of enjoying the family you have and seeing and knowing about your own children.

  When you know what grade someone in the kh is in but not your own child.

  When they are suspicious of you for wanting to see the old books/mags because your spouse has told you exactly what is in them and you want to see for yourself, naturally you don't look because the elder talks you out of it.

  When you go to a party to see old friends but you act like such a weirdo they wonder and ask spouse what is wrong with them.

  When you dispose of certain clothes because someone told you to.

  When you can no longer have actual discussions with family and have to move any discussions to emails because any discussions get to heated and don't end well.

  When you are willing to go against peoples parental rights and wishes (as well as the gb) and preach at other peoples children without consent and in secret.

  When at a family holiday you have to run away to the bathroom when dinner time prayers are said or someone has a gift to open.

  The length of a public talk

  does anyone ever wonder the good they could have done instead of giving a public talk for 45 or 30 minutes?

  i remember giving my first public talk aged 18 and even then i was thinking ' this is just me making up half truths trying to blind people with jw propaganda'.

  fast forward 15 years to when i gave my final public talk and i was so close to seeding the 30 minutes with ideas that could possibly wake people up but i never had the guts.. in that 30 minutes i could have done so much real good for a person instead of spreading this awful religions dogma.

  I am grateful for this board and many thanks to Simon for it and all who contribute!

  This board is smaller than ex jw Reddit and more intimate I guess. There are many here who I feel I 'know', well, as much as one can know a poster. The long time posters have even answered a question or two I didn't feel comfortable asking on the board at large. Having been here for quite some time now I know many of the back stories and struggles some have been through. I also see when they have progressed to letting go and getting on with life. I miss posters who leave but cheer them on that they have moved on successfully living life on their own terms. I am grateful for those who do stay to help others through the crap the wt can cause!

  Ozzie, I agree! I can't tell you how surprised and sometimes horrified people are to hear how the jw reject Jesus memorial goes down. "you mean they pass the bread & wine around and they all reject it?!!" "yes, or most of them, those who partake are usually considered mentally unbalanced by thinking they are 'special' and part of the anointed". At times people think I am making it up and I have to tell them to look for themselves or ask a jw.
