Although a JW, I never wanted to marry a JW
by JH ini remember when i joined the jw's about 18 years ago, i was single just like today, and i never really wanted to marry a jw.
i would have liked to get married, but not with a jw.
i believed in their religion, but that was the spiritual side of me.

I sent a letter about a year ago, after an elder, rank & file, husband, and ms told me I should. I said why bother they won't reply. They assured me Brooklyn would. In my letter I even told them husband suggested I start an anti cult ministry! along with various other question of course. No response as yet, I don't expect one. That was in my letter too, why don't they answer letters from members? Obviously, non of these jw's who I spoke with has ever written. When I have a question that husband can't answer he says, I should write. I of course fill him on previous experience and he should write to get the answer. Then he says, "I'm not the one with the problem". round and round we go. carla

This is so funny! I just ran across this same article acouple of weeks ago on the Quotes site. The comment that a bull wouldn't "think", good grief. What was this writer doing watching the barn yard animals at the wt farm? Isn't that kind of perverted? And husband wonders why I have a problem with the org! Yes, I really want my children to be taught sex ed by morons like this. Besides in my experience as a teenage girl, it was usually the guys who needed to learn about control. Maybe us girls needed some horns to gore the guys so they could understand no. just disgusted, carla

Overcoming Legalism and Performance Based Religion
by diamondblue1974 ini work with a devout christian which does make for interesting debates and she has allowed me to borrow yet another book.
crosby, s silent killers of faith:overcoming legalism and performance based religions), 2004.. i am not sure as to whether anyone has read it or knows about it but it goes into some detail as to legalistic and performance based religions and its affect on their followers; whilst jw's are not mentioned directly i found it came up with some startling and frighteningly similar analogies and to the jws.. for example it mentioned organisations that demonstrate a high degree of control over their followers such as what to wear, where to eat...and the affects these legalistic rules have on them.
effects such as depression, other mental health problems, and ultimately suicide in the more extreme of circumstances.. doesnt this ring any bells with anyone in terms of all that we have suffered as a jw?.

Another good book on the subject of legalism is- When Trying Harder isn't Enough Breaking the Bondage of Legalism by Neil Anderson, Rich Miller, & Paul Travis. I think if you read this book you will see the wt described but not actually named. The extreme legalism just fits. carla

She keeps making eyes at me but I'm not interested. :S
by Elsewhere inat work there is this girl there who keeps making eyes at me, but i'm not interested.
on top of that, she keeps trying to strike up conversations and she goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on... its amazing!
never a pause between sentences and barely a any space between words... just a very very long series of words coming out of her mouth non-stop.

Try talking about someone else, keep the topic to - me and so & so, on and on. Eventually she should get the hint. Or go eat somewhere else, bring a book etc.. carla

Drawing unfair comparisions-Convention talk on Tues night
by Jez intuesdays meeting had a part about the upcoming summer convention.
alot of q n a about how to dress, to wear your lapel at all times, to be clean, to not eat out bec the worldly vendors would be upset that they are not allowed to sell food inside the arena, to watch your language, conduct at the motels, to walk quietly, to not be in the halls during the sessions, informal witness at every opportunity etc.
then this man comments and says, "what other religion would clean up the arena before and after a convention?

Do you think this was at all meetings? Reason I ask is husand & I have an ongoing argument that the jw's only care about appearances. Of course he says they don't care about clothing etc... 'We dress this way for jah... Why wouldn't we care about our dress?' you know the drill. I don't know what goes on at meetings unless I come here, and no, there's no way in hell that I would go to find out. carla

Do any of you feel 'guilty' for getting someone 'in'? (in my case, when they came, they asked if husband "couldn't get out of the house without the wife knowing". Now if that is not a red flag what is ?
If you didn't have any friends or family 'in', what would keep you? fear of the big A?
He claims jw's do not think of the rest of us a 'birdseed' ( I realize that is an old term) or that the rest of us are not 'worthy' of death, but literature says otherwise, what is current thought on us 'worldly' people? Even your own children?
If it is the truth, why such fear at looking at anything not sactioned by the wt? The Bereans were comended for 'searching', etc..
Why would any active jw be on this board? Isn't that a big no-no?
Thanks for your thoughts ahead of time. Carla
