  what is the official stance on if there has not been 'new light' published?

  i thought if no new light published the 'old' still stands.

Such as aluminum or many other silly stuff? I know the jw's I have spoken to say, 'yes, that's pretty silly, we don't believe that anymore'. But if nothing new came down from the gb/fds shouldn't it still stand? thanks, carla

  What Reasons Were Given to Prove that Armageddon Was Near?

  i'm thinking back to all the "signs" that were cited - officially and unofficially - as reasons we knew that armageddon would be coming any day now.

  there was a fellow in my book study 30 years ago who used to bring time magazine to every meeting.

  to him, whatever was in the news that week was evidence that the system couldn't hold out much longer.

  I dunno, I am currently reading Spiritual Food at the Proper Time, put out by Freeminds, just various quotes about the years from 1776-2000. It seems they just keep using over and over, "the facts show, it is reasonable, proves, from Bible scripture," etc.. Yet they never really say what those facts are or what Bible scripture. They will include Bible scripture that seems to justify their 'thinking' on an issue, but it certainly does not "prove" anything they say. No suprise there. carla

  non J.W girl involved with J.w BOY...HELP!!!

  well me and my b.f met a year ago through mutual friends at a rock concert in london...we clicked instantly and i was very attracted to him as id never met someone so nice who i got on with that well i liked at the same time.

  an over the next few months saw each other a few times but only as friends as we lived on opposite ends of the country....we stayed in touch via text.

  then the texts gradually faded out.

  Run! Save yourself some heartache, find somone else. Read some of the stories here and elsewhere about the lives of jw's. Read also threads from ubm's (unbelieving mates) and see the heartache of marriages and entire families due to loved ones involvement with this cult. Do your homework! best of luck, carla

  Are you suggesting you would be willing to do actual research as to what Christians believe about the Trinity? No offense, but I find that hard to believe. Research would include what Christians have to say on the matter, not merely what the wt has to say about what Christians believe. The idea the wt puts forward about Christians and the Trinity is false. I usually hear about a 'three headed god or even the word 'monster' from my jw. Yet he is unwilling to look at what actual Christians have said or even Bible scriptures. Research would also include looking up quotes used in various wt's about what early church fathers have said and see if they are even remotely close to what the author intented. In my opinion, it turns into jw's asking people to look into their beliefs yet they are unwilling to look into anything that is not written by the wt. carla

  i'm an inactive jw that wants to begin my critical study of this religion and make a comparison between this faith and mainstream christianity.

  in addition to catching the wtbts in its lies, changing doctrines, and stuff critical to leaving the faith, i also want to get a historical perspective on everything.

  i have just received a book titled "captives of a concept" understanding the illusionary concept that hold jehovah's witnesses captive by don cameron.

  I have the book. The author also visits here once & awhile. I am going to try his 'method' as soon as the opportunity arises, which I am tying to head in that direction. Basically, the wt couldn't have been 'on the look out' for Christ in 1914 as they already believed he was 'here', in 1874. Why would you keep 'looking' if he was already here? They taught the 1874 date until 1929, I believe. Anyway I thought it was a very good book and easy for the non jw to understand. Meaning a family member who hasn't done all the research that us ubm's have done. I think most of the ubm's here have done extensive research and most know the doctrines and flip flops better than their jw mates. I would love to hear from one who was a jw what they thought of the book and how it would work. carla

  in previous threads many of you tell how your family members truly believe that you will be destroyed and not make it into paradise.
