Thanks Skyman - at the moment I am VERY confused about the blood issue. I have a copy of the latest directive, and from what I understand from reading it is (and PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong), JW are permitted to accept WHOLE blood.ie, it's a matter of conscience now.

Did it ever bother you that Watchtower never did charitible works?
by AK - Jeff ini mean, for forty years believing the witness lie it always made me wonder.. judas was the keeper of the money box - and there are statements that indicated that the apostles thought that wasting money that could be used to aid the poor was sinful - so indications are that the earliest christians were doing charitible works.
of course there are many scriptural passages that encourage that activity among believers.
today all the organization ever does is pay lip service to charity.

I still hear it maintained that the JW do many charitable works, but because of Scripture (Matt 6v3,4) they are not alllowed to advertise the fact - unlike those boasting of their good acts.
On another thread a poster suggested that the Society ought supply 'soup kitchens' for the poor and needy. I think this would be brilliant. On a day when the KH is NOT used, it should be opened for distribution of food for these people. ''God's House'' should be a Sanctuary, not a lock-up shed.

Funeral arrangements - What would you do?
by pratt1 ini just found out last night that my aunt died.
my mom and dad are arranging the funeral arrangments, and because my dad is not a dub the fumeral will be held in a church.
most likely my mom will not attend the service.

Personally I would (and will) respect the wishes of the deceased. It is the last request they can make. Upon death we have paid for our sins (as JW agree), so whatever 'service' follows, I believe, is unimportant to God.

Apostafest T Shirt Slogans.
by Englishman inthe first time that i met simon, he was wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the word "apostate".
it was all spelt out in evil-type letters, in fact it looked suitably demonic.. when i encountered him at another 'fest, his t-shirt slogan simply read: "no!
i will not fix your computer!"..

Where's the payoff?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inexcuse me if i'm being cynical, but i've had my own experiences with [b]organized religion, though it was non-jw.
the group i was affiliated with demanded that full fledged members tithe (10% off the top of your income; pre-taxes), and a donation basket was also circulated at nearly every gathering in addition to tithing.
even kids were encouraged to participate; they would give them little envelopes to put loose change into and put in the basket.

The Atheist's Book of Bible Stories - Ch. 2 - Raising Cain
by RunningMan inat the time of this story, the bible tells us that adam and eve had two children, cain and abel.
now, dont forget that there are only four people on the planet.
so, apparently, cains only punishment was the requirement to move to another region.

Enjoyable read RunningMan. Yes, as JW believe that all were vegetarian, then it makes sense Abel's Sacrifice would have been seen as the more meaningful.(Sacrificing a lamb is not depriving humankind of any livlihood).
With regards to finding a wife - I think along the same lines as I do about the Ark. I always believed that the deluge only covered the INHABITED Earth. (What's the point of flooding Australia and the USA? They weren't even invented then, lol) - this way many animals wouldn't have had to be taken into the Ark - only those native to Noah's County.( I mean WHAT HAPPENED when he released all the kangaroos after?)....I digress....many years ago, I remember reading that Jehovah God was one of brothers. Maybe JEHOVAH created Adam and Eve and Eden.....and his brother created Nod and other races......I think I'm onto something here.....

QUOTES.CA What won't the WBTS admit?
by hamsterbait inthe fantastic quotes website said that as of 2005.01.31, the wt has not specified which books, specifically, they feel are still copyright protected.. .
the law is that copyright for an author lasts through his life, and for so many years after his death.
(blondie will confirm this - with a source i betchya-) ::: in order to prove that certain works published years ago are still within the copyright, they would have to admit and confirm who wrote those works.. .

rebel8, you underestimate the editor of The Watchtower -
Sure, they already claimed Jesus was the Editor in court!
Cross-examination of Frederick W. Franz in the case of Olin Moyle v. WTB&TS, 1943, Sections #2596-2597, p. 866.
Q. At any rate, Jehovah God is now the editor of the paper [The Watchtower], is that right?
A. He is today the editor of the paper.Q. How long has He been editor of the paper?
A. Since its inception he has been guiding it.Cross-examination of Nathan Homer Knorr in the case of Olin Moyle v. WTB&TS, 1943, Section #4421, p. 1474.
Q. In fact, it [The Watchtower] is set forth directly as God's Word, isn't it?
A. Yes, as His word.Q. Without any qualification whatsoever?
A. That is right. -

They claim their published work is the direct communication from God to all the people of the world but if they see someone reproducing some of their literature, they send in their lawyers to put a stop to it by invoking copyright laws.
as we have to ''wait on Jehovah'' for everything - maybe THEY should wait on Him to do the 'suing'!!
I was thinking earlier today (not something I like to make a habit of) - I know of a few JWs who, after a lifetime of Dub-devotion have ended up alone and in ''WORDLY'' retirement homes. With all the property the Society owns, have they ever set aside properties for use as retirement homes for these members? They would be among Spiritual brothers and sisters ''apart from the World''..........am having cynical thoughts here - better I don't verbalise them...?

''Personal Trainers'' - what's that about? ''Exercise and you'll get fitter'' - ''lift these weights and you'll WORK your ARM muscles'' - EXERCISE IS FREE!!
ALSO - Dieticians (apart from the medical ones) - I mean who DOESN'T know that eating your own bodyweight in junk food is going to make you put on weight? Why PAY to be weighed once a week and be told what to eat? Calories/fat/etc are now printed on EVERY food product we buy - doesn't take a maths degree to add the calories/fat etc up.
