I've heard of this before (is it just USA?) - and sadly, nothing surprises me when it comes to the WTBTS's money grabbing ploys. THIS also seems 'grasping' as I assume it's aimed at 'Worldly' folks, as JWs donate at the Hall etc.

How did you REALLY feel when you where out in field service?
by megaflower ini never felt comfortable knocking on door and i hoped no one would be home.
my presentation was short and to the point because i did not want to get into discussions.
as we walked from "door to door" i secretly wished i could be like all the ones i saw in the nighborhood.

I'm the opposite to you boyzone - all the words whizz around my head but I'm rubbish at verbalising stuff. I was always worried that I wouldn't be able to preach the 'Truth' properly and people would die because of MY incompetence. Does that make sense?
Boyzone - your 'gift' in 'witnessing' need not go to waste now

Will they be working the evils of the internet into it somehow (it's certainly a major threat)? Maybe Joe,the prodigal son, was lured away by evil apostates who filled his head with truths lies about the WT - he listened for a while and became obsessed with having his 'ears tickled' by outlandish and false stories - so much so, that he was missing out on the meetings, and all the necessary spiritual food that is esential to survive Armageddon (imminent). His family were helpless - they knew the evils of the internet (thanks to the GB, any of whom are probably unable to plug a PC in, let alone surf the net), where Satan is lurking and guiding faithful JWs away from Jehovah.
Faced with overwhelming evidence apostasy, young Joe knew in his heart that Jehovah had provided a lifeline in Satan's world (the internet - keep up) by way of Watchtower.org (which, no doubt, apostates are trying to discredit and close down). In his hour of darkness, he read the pages - the whole site - and it was clear that the WT is unquestionably God's tool (hence Joe not questioning it - so neither should you, ok? Got that?).
From this we learn that in modern times it is more common to leave the 'Truth' mentally - Joe was fortunate, he saw the error of his ways and when he returned to his family, they said, 'welcome back son' - well, they said it six months later, as they were forbidden to speak to him before then.
Standing ovation from the audience, Joe gets 3 curtain calls and an Oscar nomination - and that laptop?...well you know the answer to that.

Advice please: Would you loan your copy of Crisis of Conscience to your JW friends or create awareness/curiosity about its existence?
by LUKEWARM inabout 12 months ago i ordered the book.
i thought i was sinning against god - showing a lack of faith in him and in his organization.
i prayed to jah to forgive me but i was curious as to why a person, who spent over 50 years in full time service, was of the anointed and served on the governing body left "gods organization".

I'd go for it! Are JWs generally aware this book exists? (I wasn't until I happened upon this site - but then I never sought out ex-JW material, so am assuming the average JW wouldn't either). When I've mentioned the GB to a couple of JWs, they have no idea who the members are (or how many, or names)...is that a UK thing though...?

Ah - so the 'study' edition is 'plain'? Is that to save on printing ink or to give it a more 'academic' appearance (JWs are easily impressed)?

Was a GB memeber deleted for molestation?
by Albert Einstein insome time ago, i read on the internet, that in late 70s there was a gb member (his name should be leo greenslee) who was accused of molestation of a little boy - son of a witness family.
after this was revealed, he was supposed to be removed from bethel to serve as a special pioneer out of new york and have died in 80s.. have you heard about it?.
albert.

........Governing body members are supposed to be members for LIFE!!! Do the math??
That's what I understood Witness007 - they're appointed by God himself, so how can men remove them?

Ray Franz is a brave man for taking the route he did - it couldn't have been an easy decision. He was disfellowshipped on NO Biblical grounds.
I don't think Greenlees was d'fed? I thought he was just moved (as an Elder) to a neighbouring congregation? If he'd done nothing 'wrong', then why move him?

You did well Albert!
Hello Sad Michael - is your appearance on this site connected with your wife 'leaving' the Watchtower? I imagine (correct me if I'm wrong) you wouldn't be here if she was still attending? You mentioned she now holds 'apostate' views, so perhaps you're curious?
I arrived here purely by accident (a few years ago now). I'd already left the WT, BUT I still firmly believed it was the 'Truth'. I felt a little (well, VERY)uncomfortable reading the words of 'apostates' (sorry all, lol). And then I spotted the thread about the United Nations - I was horrified. All of what I'd been 'taught' came flooding back, about the UN being an abomination etc - and there it was, staring me in the face, the Watchtower's association with the UN. Did I believe the words of apostates (sorry again folks, lol)? I did my own research, found the newspaper article etc - oh, but not to worry, the Watchtower severed its TEN YEAR association with the UN, the DAY AFTER it was published in the British press.
From the above example, I went on to discover the Watchtower itself is guilty of many things it condemns. Then it lies to the JWs.

A 66-year-old is set to become the oldest woman to give birth in Britain, it was reported last night.
Elizabeth Adeney is reported to be eight months pregnant after having had IVF treatment abroad.
She is four years older than the previous record holder, Patricia Rashbrook, who gave birth in 2006, aged 62.
A friend of Adeney told the Daily Mail she was still working a five-day week, in perfect health and looking forward to what is thought to be her first child. Adeney, a divorcee from Lidgate near Newmarket, Suffolk, runs her own textile company. She had been desperate to conceive for years, the unnamed friend said.
Most British clinics will not treat women over 50 and most NHS primary care trusts do not consider anyone over 40.
Adeney travelled to a Ukrainian clinic last year. "She was desperate for a child. She was over the moon when she learned last year that she was pregnant and has been quite open about it. It's not the sort of thing she can hide," the friend said.
"Elizabeth has had a pretty good pregnancy. She has been very well, considering her age. I'm amazed how she keeps going.
"She does get up a little later in the mornings than she used to and sometimes spends an hour or two at home before going to work but she is still at her business Monday to Friday."
Last night Adeney declined to discuss her condition in any detail. "I am a private person and while I appreciate there may be some publicity I will just ignore it," she told the Mail. "This has been a very personal decision and I do not feel I have to give interviews or talk to anyone in the media about what I have decided to do and where I have done it."
The world's oldest woman to give birth was Omkari Panwar, 70, from India, who gave birth to a twin boy and girl last year.

JWs cannot make ''mistakes'' because, whereas the rest of the World could possibly misinterpret the Bible, they alone are inspired...(and arrogant)...
Watchtower, 1973 July 1st p.402
Jehovah’s organization alone, in all the earth, is directed by God’s holy spirit or force (Zech,4:6) Only this organization functions for Jehovah’s purpose and to his praise. To it alone God’s Sacred Word, the Bible, is not a sealed book.
