BrokenPromises...ooops. Blondie suggests in 4th post that the WTBTS has an official policy of not letting JW abusers go door to door since 2002 (and the Porter case was 2007). These men are on the Child Sex Offender Register, so any unsupervised contact with a child would be in breach of that (I'd assume). It makes sense, therefore, that anyone on that register would not be able to do door to door as this would bring them into contact with unsupervised minors. I'm sorry, I don't think I've answered your question properly.

Do you Know of any JW Pedophiles who Currently Go Out in Service ?
by flipper inmy wife suggested this thread and i agree it's a good idea to put this out here to find out.
just wanted to give her credit for the idea.. most of the public have no idea that some of the jehovah's witnesses people calling at their door are a previously convicted sex offender or pedophile who may have served hard time in prison for their crime.
it would be interesting to have an informal survey here and get an idea of the sheer numbers of these child molesters who are out on the loose.. in your opinion - how would the public react if they knew that child molesters were regularly calling on their doors ?

Broken Promises - the picture in the above link (about half way down) appears to show Michael Porter out in the ministry.

Most Annoying Things That Happen At JW Meetings
by LittleSister intoday i was remembering how angry i used to get at the meetings and all the little irritations that in the end would just make my blood boil these included:.
prayers that go on foreverstudy or wt conductors still taking comments when its clear that the point has been covered 20 times alreadymeetings over running by more than 5 minsmy favourite was this one elder who would play guess the point i am thinking of.
he would keep rephrasing the question from the wt until someone would bring up the point he was thinking of.

The two hour mid week meetings, where little kids would be expected to sit still WAY past their bedtime, and if they didn't could expect to be dragged out back for a 'good hiding'. As soon as a child was lifted from his seat, he'd start bawling the place down as he knew what was coming to him. Operant conditioning..? I'm thinking Pavlov's dog :(
The endless prayers
Gawd yes...we used to have one elder who used to fall asleep while he gave the prayer...he'd just suddenly go quiet, lol. I actually liked him. Generally prayers are so insincere and are padded out with repetative 'Jehovahs' (I ended up counting how many times I heard Jehovah during a prayer and used to start sniggering).
rockmehardplace - great, so your kid can repeat what you say.
Bingo...and that is how the whole 'religion' works, by parrot-fashion repetition of what is printed in a WT. Start as kids and continues into adulthood....by which time it's second nature. -

Didn't the WTS institute an official policy of not letting jw abusers go door to door in 2002? If so, it would have bearing on any answers before or after that date.
Wasn't Michael Porter photographed (by the Sun newspaper) out in field service AFTER he was 'convicted' in 2007 ?

If so I think all us Brits here should be writing letters stating why JW's do not benefit the public.
I don't know of any example where JWs have benefitted 'Society' or individuals. In addition to flogging WT literature, what else are they renowned for? I'm up for writing to the Charities Commission.
In WT speak, maybe the word 'charity' has a different meaning to the dictionary - you know, just as 'generation' does.

Most-Ignored Scriptures by JWs
by Mad Sweeney inthe watchtower has been known for over 130 years as a great scriptural cherry-picker.
they pick out disparate unrelated verses and combine them to support the wackiest of wacky doctrines.. on the other hand there are many scriptures they almost never address, whether because they contradict wt doctrine or because they simply don't have a clue what they mean or how to spin them to the wt advantage.. one of these is revelation 19:1 that mentions a "great crowd" "in heaven.
" the only time it is ever brought up it is dismissed.

If reading the Bible as a JW, why bother meditating?
by Crisis of Conscience ini was inspired to write this based on a post in another thread.. as a jw you are told to read and let the bible speak to you.. that would mean that you could reach a different conclusion on a certain scripture or account.
but that may not coincide with what the fds has as an explanation or conclusion.
this in turn, according to the standard makes you wrong if you "want" to be humble and wait for "new light.".

As a JW you are told to read and let the Bible speak to you.
I thought studying the Bible alone was now 'discouraged'? Or is that last year's light?
