Arkansas radio talk show short on ethics?

as most of you know, i live in arkansas.

each saturday morning my wife and i listen to a call-in radio show for an hour.

the show is mostly about home energy efficiency - proper calking, insulation - i know, boring stuff.

As most of you know, I live in Arkansas. Each Saturday morning my wife and I listen to a call-in radio show for an hour. The show is mostly about home energy efficiency - proper calking, insulation - I know, boring stuff. On the positive side, it enables me to skip the magazine work. (Just kidding - I haven't done that for 32 years)

The host, Doug Rye, frequently has a caller who sells things - water distillers, room air purifying machines, attic reflecting material, etc. His last name, which I found from getting on his web site, is Rodney Leatherman.

What's beginning to get to me is that Doug is always saying he never sells anything but out of the goodness of his heart, he helps people with his advice - to buy products from other folks. With due respect, he's good with energy efficiency ideas. However, this Rodney fellow is calling in more often than not and he and Doug have a brag session on how good Rodney's products are. I might add - they are pricey.

The thought occurred to me that maybe Doug and Rodney are business partners. So what, you say? After all, we are in a free enterprise system. Well, Doug's sponsors may not be too keen in paying for infomercials that boast about someone else's products all the while that someone else may not be footing any of the sponsor fees. In addition, that someone else could be the host himself. So I did some digging.

I proceeded to search for IBDR and Rye and Leatherman. Guess what? I found two different records that show each as being president of IBDR, Inc.

The records don't display much information, but what it does show, appears strange. The business address in both records is listed as identical street addresses in Las Vegas, Nevada. Recall that Doug's home is Arkansas and Rodney's home is Tennessee.

Am I being overly suspicious? Where can I go to see if these two are actually business partners? Why do they both choose Las Vegas for a business address? Could there be some type of tax advantage?

How many times has the teaching of resurrection of the ancient Sodomites been reversed?

The beauty of this one is that it can be sourced (with the exception of their first stand (from an 1800's WT) of resurrection = yes) with the WT library.

It would be interesting to see the "seventh" item of the new charter. If memory serves, as of 1989, that paragraph "...for public Christian worship of Almighty God and Christ Jesus ...

Those are two good ones

Here's one, however, that apparently was too old to go back and coverup. It continues untouched on the WT Library 2007. Will they catch it in time for the 2009 version? We shall wait and see.

Luke 21:8 and the latest 2008 WT Library

i was perusing the latest 2008 wt library and i ran a search for luke 21:8 (one of the worst texts you could read to a jw).

when i first ran the search, the library only popped up with one article from 11/1/64 wt and a reference to some book called the kingdom of god is nigh (published by the wt in 1944, but is not found on the cd.

i did find it on the internet, though.).

Civicsi00 makes a good point although I doubt they've tampered with the search engine part of their CD.
I speak on behalf of the 2007 version.

Yes, if you look for 21:8 you will find some 310 instances but, by far, those are citations.

Let's take a part of that text (the part they don't like to quote), "The due time has approached". Don't forget to wrap it with those double quotes.

I get 3 hits -- the very articles he cites. To the casual observer it's obvious that they don't like that text. To the critical observer, us, it's obvious why they don't like it.

And, you must be very careful in how you string search. For example, "for many will come on the basis of my name, saying" will yield no hits. That's because of the comma. Remove the comma (I know, it's part of the text) and you will get 15 hits.

It looks like our years as Witnesses overlapped somewhat. I left the Watchtower out as your first term expired in 1977.

I'm amazed at your parent's arrival at the airport. Did they live long enough to see you leave the cult?

garage door suggestions please, Thanks!

my garage door is making noises when it opens even after several repairs, what usa brand do you recommend for a new garage door?.

Not many months ago, I had a very noisy opener. To make a long story short, it was not the opener -- it was how it was attached to the house.

I'd noticed for several months how the header (the part of the wall directly above the opening, and which the center part of the opener was attached) was sagging. When I measured the sag, it was approx 1".

I corrected the sag, which translated into that spring wrapped torsion spring rod sagging as well, being not straight as it should be.

No more noise (creaking, howling, etc), all the result of misalignment.

ps: I'd like to say that correcting the sag was not easy. I did the job which would have cost between $1,500 and $2,000.

Very thought provoking, Jeff. I agree with your hypothesis on what essentially has become the GB's denigration of individuals.

We can also look at the other end of the spectrum, their obsession with the name Jehovah.

How many times did Jesus use that proper name in his model prayer? Zero.

While Jesus mentions "your name", he never used it with sickening repetition, as we've all heard elders, CO's, DO's, etc., in their public prayers.

They address the creator of the universe with his name more times in a single prayer than they've ever done to their earthly dad even a single time in their entire lifetime. While I don't view that as a morally wrong act, I can't remember addressing my dad, "Wesley", once.

When you explore Watchtower's history on nearly everything it addresses, its spin appears lopsided.

I was told off twice for what I wore to Bethel....so the Hell with them!

the first time i went to australia bethel during a holiday, we pioneer boys put on our best "going out" clothes, no ties just very smart, well groomed and neat.

the sister we stayed with said: "oh no you can't wear those clothes, you have to dress in meeting clothes!

" so we did, realizing we had shamed ourselves and our god.

BluesBrother: The infamous "What to wear when visiting Bethel" brochure is on display at every K/Hall around here...Not that anybody's is visiting Bethel, they just want everybody to know that you have to dress exactly the way they want you to, if you dare to drag your miserable feet around the 'Holy temple in all but name' Bethel Factory.

Has this brochure ever been posted here? If not, it sounds like it would be interesting reading for all lurkers.
