wanderer reminded me of an answer that i frequently get when confronting dubs with information obtained through the internet.
even if it's a scan of a wts publication, the typical dub seems to be well schooled in refusing to give any credibilty to anything that comes from a website other than watchtower.org.
has anyone had any luck finding more "credible" sources for info?

i wasn't offered the new tract, but after they asked me about the state of the world and how i felt about god etc, i asked them in.

It all may be as simple (you want to keep it simple) as the difference between two words and their opposite meanings, objective and subjective.
Objective: undistorted by emotion or personal bias; based on observable phenomena; "an objective appraisal"; "objective evidence"
Subjective: as opposed to objective, full of personal emotions and feelings.
Knowing this, you may choose to stay away from subjective things, things subject to interpretation. e.g. Bible scriptures, Bible history such as the topic of 607, any fulfillment of prophecy (or not). By staying away from these you are keeping off their favorite turf. They are experts in interpretation, they love to spin.
Objective things are like box scores of sporting events, things that cannot be argued. "The Cowboys won yesterday" (true), "President Kennedy was assassinated" (true).
"...1925 shall mark the resurrection of the faithful worthies of old...". Millions, p.97. (a statement of prediction)
"Certainly they have not returned. No one has seen them, and it would
be foolish to make such an announcement. It was stated in the 'Millions' book that we might reasonably expect them to return shortly after 1925, but this was merely an expressed opinion; besides it is still shortly after 1925..." WT 1926, p.196. ("merely an expressed opinion" is an obvious lie)

that is it. what do I say to that?
Please refer to my first post and Cameron's suggestion: ask for a history study first

The quality of WT dishonesty has always been my favorite. That way there's no argument as to interpretation. You don't even need to crack open a Bible.
"...really, would you want to be even associated with a religion that had not been
honest with you?" Is This Life All There Is?,1974, page 46.
While there are many examples of dishonesty in their own words (attempts to coverup certain things) my favorite is the 1925 debacle. The beauty of this, for argument sake, is they can't say it's old news since they, themselves, resurrected and rejuvinated this coverup in the 1975 yearbook, some 50 years later. "Captives of a Concept", a book (less than $20) by Don Cameron, says that one who is considering a Bible study with Jehovah’s Witnesses should "...ask for a history study first in order to find out if this is in fact the organization that Jesus appointed to teach the Bible to the rest of mankind." He suggests, "... those who do a history study first don’t ask for a Bible Study later."
The history book? Their own "Proclaimers of God’s Kingdom", The Book of Watchtower History. How can the conductor argue against it?
Don doesn’t feel the book is as candid about their history as it should be, but that there’s plenty of embarrasing ammunition for the critic within its pages.

i don't get to check this board too often and if it has already been discussed, i apologize.
just curious if there was ever a big announcement.

Oh -- you were asking about 1990? Sorry. I suspect, however, it was the same old song. What do you think?

i'm new here; i "faded away" 3 years ago.
i'll tell my story soon when it's not so hard to think about.. i'm just wondering what stories other people were told about demons that ensured that nobody watched scary movies or listened to certain music (in my case, stevie nicks, go figure).
elders and my friends' parents, and other kids in the congregation all had stories of people watching movies and waking up to see a demon in their room!
Ah yes, Stevie Nicks. A few years ago on my way to work -- yes, it was this time of year -- I heard her on my car radio with a rendition of "Silent Night".
I normally don't get caught up emotionally with vocalists but when I got to work I had tears coming down my cheeks. Her performance on this number is so throaty and with so much soul, I would have to rate it number 1 of all the renditions I've heard. I vowed I would somehow get that track -- but haven't kept that vow.
Guess what I'm going to Google for after I post this?

Hi Purps,
I love your pics. I'm especially attracted to moss-covered bark, rustic settings. They're similar to some of those around here.
I'm thinking of getting a new camera in the next month or so. What is yours, if I may ask? It seems excellent.
