UNDERSTANDING "FOOD AT THE PROPER TIME" the duty of the Faithful Slave
by Terry induring the great depression in the 1930's people lost their jobs.. banks closed, and long lines formed in the streets called "bread lines".. people got up early and had to stand in line all day to get a free loaf of bread to feed their family!.
in a cabin in the appalachian mountains there was a family of four: two children (a boy and a girl), a mom and a dad (who had lost his job.
at the local sawmill).. things looked really bleak.

When you go back an look at some of the Society's early annointed numbers, it appears that anywhere from 50,000 to 80,000 of the 144,000 were from 1874 and onward. So according to their own data, less that 100,000 "true" Christians existed bewteen 33 CE and 1874 CE. When you bring out the vast numbers that were baptized as recorded in the Bible, they would say that "evidently" the vast majority of those fell away in the great apostasy.

Creative ways of counting field service time
by 4thgen inthere was a sister in my congregation that signed up to aux pioneer one month to put in 60 hours.
we couldn't figure out why she was never at the arrangements, but yet she said she got in her time early in the month.
we found out later that we wrote a letter that took her an hour.

One brother and I would spend 8 hours on Saturday and Sunday doing RV's and laundramats. We would go to one RV and then to one on the opposite side of town and then back again. Of course we stopped at a few 7-11's along the way.

What happened to the "Witness" part of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by donny ini just got back from my afternoon walk/run and about a block from home i saw two sets of jw's going door to door handing out invites to the memorial.. the first pair walked past me and only said "good afternoon" as they passed.. about two minutes later the second pair approached me and handed me an invite to 2014 memorial on april 14. i asked them why they chose the jw's as their church of choice and was told "we'd like to chat more but we have a set number of invites we have to get out before the memorial.
if you contact the kingdom hall listed here, they will tell you more... on how god's kingdom will rid the world of satan and the evil associated with him.".
i replied "you can't talk now?".

I have been gone almost 22 years myself and am amazed how tame the JW's have become.

Want to know why people accept evolution ?
by snare&racket indo you have questions about or want to understand evolution?
it is a difficult concept to communicate and so if it is not explained well , it is understandable that we would dismiss it.. i sincerely want to talk with people who want to learn more or see what all the fuss is about.
we are all learning and increasing our knowledge all the time and it is good to go over facts with critical eye.. evolution we can discuss, looking at the foundational facts and evidence, one at a time for you to go and check, agree or disagree with and return.. no pressure to accept it, you can decide for yourself, also no mocking etc of what you have to say.. .

What is the main "idea" of the bible?
by KateWild inas jws we were often told what the theme of the bible is, we were taught that it was the promised seed.. i was recently asked the question.... what is the main "idea" of the bible?.
for me the whole purpose of the bible is about control.
it features a god that punishes and rewards.

I believe the Bible was written by several bronze age people who were trying to build up confidence and loyalty in their little wandering tribe. Back in those days telling stories was the only way legends were kept alive and passed to subsequent generations.
After reading the Bible all the way through without anyone guiding me it becomes very clear that this is a work of man and not of some omnicient being. Also it is very clear in the New Testament that these writings were for people of that time period. They all thought they were in the last days and that Christs return was imminent. They certainly did not expect that his return would be centuries in the future much less millenia.

Did You Ever Feel Guilty Because You Deserted The JW Religion?
by minimus inonce i left, i never yearned for anything associated with the religion.
i didn't miss their doctrines, their erroneous thinking.
i never felt guilty because i abandoned the religion i was raised in.. i believe the reason for my not feeling guilty is pretty simple.

The only thing I miss is a few individuals I was close to. Other than that, nada.
