No doubt many would jump ship. Remember Rutherford was a very prolific drinker and often made fun of those who did not. Below is paste from my experience in the JW's where I report on a party my exwife and I attended.
Besides all of the business problems we encountered, we also discovered that the Witnesses here in Albuquerque seemed to be more worldly when it came to entertainment. We were invited to a Witness party that had several elders and ministerial servants present. The first thing we noticed upon entering the house was the elaborate "bar" with every imaginable form of liquor one could think of. After getting our drinks we were directed to the den in the back of the house, where loud rock-and-roll music was blaring. The room was totally dark except for the light coming off the large mirror ball hanging from the ceiling. It was "Saturday Night Fever," Witness style. About halfway through the party a song came on that suggested immorality. When I questioned the brother who was playing the tapes and records he proudly declared; "These songs are recorded by an all-Witness band." I guess that made it right.

What determined the path you took once you came to your senses?
by donny ini have been reading a lot of posts over the past few weeks and noticed how some folks have taken the atheist/agnostic path, while others have replaced their zeal for the society into one of another faith.
what led you to take the path you did?.
for me, i just began doing a lot of deep thinking and trying to come to the most logical conclusion based on the facts that i had before me.. as a result, i have taken the agnostic path because it makes the most sense to me.

For me, I just began doing a lot of deep thinking and trying to come to the most logical conclusion based on the facts that I had before me.. As a result, I have taken the agnostic path because it makes the most sense to me. After I realized the Watchtower drizzle was a bunch of hooey, I was extremely cautious about replacing ir with something that may be more believable, but equally untrue. I have come to believe that if there is a supreme being/creator out there, then he just got things started billions of years ago and left us to our own devices.
I find it hard to believe that a supreme omnipotent being (the key words here are supeme and omnipotent) could not have done a better job of communicating to his subordinates, since he seems to want us to worship and adore him/her so much. Why would a god want to send bears to rip up 42 kids who were making fun of Elisha? "He turned around, looked at them and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Then two bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths." (2 Kings 2:24) Why would a Supreme Being be concerned with reporting on men who had "genitals as large as a donkey’s and emissions like those of a horse.?" (Ezekiel 23:20)
These are just two of many ludicrous statements in the Bible and it strains the thinking mind that a "higher power" could have inspired the writting of so many things that many humans find revolting. If god is thinking about us so much, why has he done such a lousy job of communicating with us? And why is nearly all of the communication something 2000 years and more in the past? Why is ones religious faith more based on the geography of where you were born rather than god communicating his will and purpose clearly to his creation all over the earth?
These and many, many other things have led me to my current agnostic state. While giving up on the notion of living forever was a bummer in the beginning, I have come to terms with that reality and I really enjoy my life now.
So what led you to where you are now?

I often wonder if Pink Floyds "Another Brick in the Wall" is written from the viewpoint of a Society representative looking out at his audience of comatose sheep.

little WT extras
by agent zero inyou know whats always bothered me intensely?
.. when witnesses (esp.
pioneers) have all the little wt extras, such as the wt year agenda, the wt removable book covers, bible with their name printed on the leather cover, the rv book with the little tower logo on it, "pens from patterson" etc.
-
donny
Yeah I found some of that annoying as well. A lot of the JW's had their bibles and reasoning books bound together so they appeared to be getting their info from the bible alone. One sister I knew made little Watchtower tie-tacs and Awake necklace pendants and her brother made little white plaques with the tetragrammaton in gold letters. And all the while knocking the Christendom folks for doing similar things with the cross and the name Jesus.

How Long Did It Take You to Realize It Wasn't "The Truth"?
by minimus ini see some posters still aren't 100% sure that the jehovah's witness religion might not be "the truth"....was there a moment when things became very clear for you regarding this religion?.
do you still think, maybe----jws aren't all that bad??
?.

It took me about 6 years into my decade stint for the "truth" to begin unraveling for me. Unlike many of my fellow co-horts, I was really having issues with the Jesus choosing them in 1919 thing. The more I researched, the more I realized that could not find any legit reason that Jesus would have chosen this group from all of the other Christian groups. I realized that all of those wacky teachings of the period could not be blamed on "Christendom" because they were created by the same organization that would later abandom them.

Did you read this: How disfellowshipped family members should be treated.
by Ianua inin the appendix of the new "keep yourselves in god's love"-book i found the following statements regarding contact to ex-jw-family members:.
what if a relative is disfellowshipped?
in such a case, the close bond between family members can pose a real test of loyalty.

The skys have been pretty smoky here in Morgan Hill (just south of San Jose on Highway 101) for the past 9 days. It really bites as I am not able to do my daily jog like I would like. The fires near here have been in San Martin, Gilroy, and several in the Santa Cruz mountains.
