And yes donny, you're going straight to Hell in a handbag
I don't mind going to hell, but I detest going in a handbag!
based on the material below from the faithful and discreet slave, i was wondering if any of you experienced any of this "enlightment" during your jw sojurn.
based on your pictures, i would have to say you must have been weak in the faith.
what is puzzling though, is why did michael jackson dissassociate himself just before reaching perfection?

I'll be willing to bet that the no-blood doctrine arose from this teaching. Couldn't risk the possibility of having the blood of a Negro contaminate their divine status, could they?
I guess my pure family line is forever contaminated as my kids are half Mexican, my niece is half African American and I am currently married to an Asian. Am I predestined to damnation?

Watch Tower 1904 February 15 pp.52-53 “Can the Ethiopian change his skin?”
“What the Ethiopian cannot do for himself God could readily do for him. The difference between the races of men and the differences between their languages have long been arguments against the solidarity of the human family. The doctrine of restitution has also raised the question. How could all men be brought to perfection and which color of skin was the original? The answer is now provided. God can change the Ethiopian's skin in his own due time. Prof. H. A. Edwards, Supt. of Schools in Slater, Mo., has written for the public press an elaborate description of how Julius Jackson, of New Frankfurt, Mo., a negro boy of nine years, began to grow white in September, 1901 , and is now fully nine-tenths white. He assures us that this is no whitish skin disease; but that the new white skin is as healthy as that of any white boy, and that the changed boy has never been sick and never has taken medicines”
i knew this would happen.
i moved into a neighborhood where i knew some former "friends" and now they are patrolling my house and discovering gross sins on my behalf.
bs, for one, but no need to go there.
We had a ridiculous situation once, where a woman was trying to get a "scriptural divorce" yet she was unable to do so because her worldly seperated husband never quite stayed the whole night at his girlfriend's house. It was crazy.
Sometimes they can create their own "reason" for divorce as was my situation. My ex and I had separated in Jan of 1992 and she was sure I would shortly sucumb to worldly influences and commit fornincation. During our separation I was seeing my kids on the weekends and some weekdays and I was giving her cash every week per an agreed amount to help with their support .
When I did not turn into the sex crazed person she thought I would become, she became frustrated as she wanted to be on her own scriptually. Finally in September of 1992 she cut off my access to my kids and refused to let me see them. As a result, I quit giving her cash for support. Instead of cash, I bought the kids shoes, clothes and other items that they had called me and asked for. I kept a copy of all the receipts to show that this was meeting or exceeding our cash amount agreement. I even documented in the computer diary I was keeping that I thought she was trying to create an issue of non-support.
Sure enough, she served divorce papers on me in October 92 citing "willful non-support" as the reason, even though the elders in the Farmers Branch congregation did not concur since they had a copy of all my financial contributions I had made during out separation. However, she received support from the elders in the Spring Valley congregation where she now attended. No one from her congregation called me to ask if any of this was true, they just took her word for it.
hi all.
in your opinion, what was the silliest , most laughable watchtower teaching/doctrine, since its beginning until now???.
chukyy.
Imagine trying to explain to someone how the "7 trumpet blasts" in Revelation referred to conventions attended by a few thousand Bible Students in the 1920's.
Ditto!! And to think that someone as warped and crooked as Joseph P. Rutherford would be part of those seven blasts is some of the best comedy ever put in print. He may have had seven tequila blasts but that's about it.
yesterday, my aunt was talking to one of my siblings about how things have been changing in our [ex] congregation for the 'better'.. she mentioned how a new circuit overseer has come in and is shaking things up.
the co appointed a ministerial servant (someone, the po & secretary didn't like and i know would never have voluntarily suggested appointment) and some of the 'brothers' that have had no 'responsibility' ever are being given #4 talks.
she also mentioned that the book study will be cancelled and the meetings are being shortened.. a ministerial servant who had a vendetta against some of the elders wants me to talk to a co and basically tell him i left the congregation [and the religion] because of the incompetence of the elders.. i'm not talking to the co and i'm not 'blaming' anyone.
Absolutely not. It's painful enough knowing I wasted a decade of my life serving those bozo's, so there is nothing that could make me subject myself to that torture again.
besides the folks walking with signs at each convention, what was your first taste of "apostasy"?
my first interesting experience happened within the kingdom hall.
my congregation in dallas (farmers branch) was in the same district as the bonham congregation which was about 70 miles northeast of dallas.. http://governingbodyletters.blogspot.com/2008/04/who-owns-kingdom-halls.html.
I remember the Bonham scandal, and whate intrigued me was that no one would really give details. It was just a generic, "the elder body had to be replaced". No whys or wherefors. So I never really knew what happened
They did their best to keep it under wraps but it was such a big event. When I tried to press for more detail I was usually rebuffed with statements like "They just apostasized, what else needs to be known?" I had heard that Ralph Deal had been in contact with Ray Franz before the schism, but I dont know much more than that. I remember after the dedication talk by governing body member Lyman Swingle, I approached him and asked him what had happend to Ray that would cause him to give up his seat on the GB as well as being disfellowshipped.
Suprisingly, he simply said that Ray was not a bad man, but that he just understood the scriptures to say things that the others did not. That was the end of the conversation.
One dope comment was made by an elder in my congregation, Jared Hardie during the dedication ceremonies. He commented that during the building of the new Kingdom Hall, a cattle truck was heading west on highway 56 and all of the cows were looking toward the project. He then said "Even Jehovahs lower creations understand there is something significant going on here."
I laughed inside and thought "Yeah they are on their way to possibly be on one of Jehovahs higher creations dinner plates."
in another thread, someone stated: .
"also, a few years ago the wtbts was burned badly, albeit on a small scale, with the bonham, texas congregation declaring independence and siezing their own kingdom hall in the process.
since then, the wtbts has taken the appropriate legal steps to make sure that if any congregation splits, the assets will still belong to those faithful to the wtbts.
I had the (ahem), privilege, of helping to build the showcase new hall in Bonham. I remember it was on much more land than a KH needs, with a nice winding drive up to the hall at the top of a hill.
Sixofnine I was there as well. I beleive the hall was built on 15 acres donated by some ditz in the area. Besides the nice winding drive up to the hall we also helped create a small lake as well. The Society wanted to show everyone that apostasy does not pay. During the rebuild project, I remember seeing a few Witnesses crying because they had lost most of their family and friends to the defection. It was such a topic of conversation. Some commented that they would have more believed something like this could happen in an urban area vs a rural one like Bohnam. Defection leader Ralph Deal was the poster child of "the evil slave" for quite some time. This was also the first time I had heard about the Ray Franz incident.

what became of Ralph Deal, and the others?
I wish I knew. I tried locating him in 1993 after I had disaasociated myself, but I could not find him. I went to the old kingdom hall site on Pecan St and the hall was there and a sign read "Christian meetings on Sundays @ 10:00 am" but it was 2:00 pm when I arrived and the place was empty. His name was mentioned several times in the first couple of years after the "great defection" and Witnesses in North Texas really seemed to be fascinated at what had occured.
if a witness sees you, will they acknowledge you, ignore you, be nice to you, or treat you as dead?
Most avoid me like the plague. It was interesting to me when I would be in a store with my kids and a member of my former congregation would walk up and begin talking to them and never look at me. They would ask them how their grandparents were doing (my non-JW parents) and what they doing this weedend. When my kids would reply that dad was taking them to a movie or amusement park, they often would say something like "well I hope he's ok" and here I am standing there. I would then reply "I am doing great" which went into the wind.
